I visited Elham last evening with friends and we went to the Rose and Crown for a meal. What a disappointment!!We sat down and waited and waited for service. The staff all two of them were more intent on their conversation than serving us so we took our departure and went to another local pub where we were treated very well.

I am sorry that you had a bad experience whilst visiting the Rose and Crown, having now spoken to the staff on duty and reviewed the CCTV when you entered the pub you approached the bar you were asked if you would like a drink and you declined! You were shown to your table (table 1). At all times you... More

The Rose & Crown is a traditional inn or pub and sits in the idyllic village of Elham, at the heart of Elham valley within the Kent Downs, an area of outstanding natural beauty. The Rose & Crown is also the first place in England to introduce bar billiards. As a family of six, we turned up without a booking... More

I stayed for one night and found the staff friendly and helpful, my room was warm, clean and comfortable and had everything you could wish for. Dinner in the evening was copious and tasty and breakfast (included) was unbeatable with local juices, yoghurts and the choices and variety could not be faulted. Highly recommended at a reasonable price.

We ate here twice. The food was all excellent, beautifully cooked and served by friendly and helpful staff. The wine was good and reasonably priced.

The pub is welcoming and has a good cosy ambience. However the food is plentiful but very standard pub grub level. I would not say I would never go again but I wouldn't make an effort. If you have a good appetite it is reasonable value. We don't and would have preferred much less.

Visited without a booking they were full, but the weather was good and we sat in the garden. Fabulous Sunday Lunch best we have had in a long time, lovely variety of vegetables and plenty to eat would highly recommend a visit. Staff were really nice and service was very quick even though we had been told there would be... More

Had a meal here last week, steak and ale pie.To be fair the pie had plenty of content but lacked flavour, also the mixed veg was way overcooked and waterlogged. My companions were generally unimpressed with what they had that evening, maybe the kitchen had an offday i dont know, but have had better. That aside the beer was fine and the pub itself was cosy... Ate a great Sunday roast here, beautifully cooked. 8 different vegetables, perfectly done, not overcooked as so often is the case. Very reasonably priced too. Would recommend it.

After reading a number of good reviews on here, my wife and I decided to give this place a try as we were visiting in the area. We were seated and ordered a main course only very quickly. However after waiting for over half an hour we asked our nearby tables if they had waited a long time and they... More

Good and varied menu to suit all tastes. Good variety of ales and lagers. Ice cream deserts best I have ever tasted and are generous in portion size.

Description
We would like to welcome you to The Rose and Crown Inn (AA 4 Star) situated in the heart of the Village of Elham in an area popular with walkers and declared as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We are only a short distance from the Channel Tunnel at Cheriton, approx 5 miles from Folkestone and 6 miles from the City of Canterbury. The Rose & Crown Elham is a Grade II Listed building, it was originally timber framed and built in the 16th century. Most of it has been re fronted, and extended at the south end, where a date stone gives the date 1740. This inn was used for many years for the Elham Petty Sessions, and the courtroom can still be made out on the first floor. Mortises and grooves in the beams show where a small room was set aside for the use of the magistrate, who visited here once a fortnight. The first game of Bar Billiards was played here in the Rose & Crown, Elham in 1932. David Gill of Ox Road Farm, North Elham was responsible for creating the first Bar Billiards table, which was first played on here at the Rose & Crown Elham. (Information Source Derek Boughton.
