This is our second stop in a touristic hotspot in France this summer where we have been totally shocked by the attitude of the owners. Yet again, it feels like these owners know that they are in a good spot. They rely totally on touristic...passage and feel no need to be courteous towards customers and have no sense of good customer service, because the cash just rolls in anyway.
We look and act like most brit tourists and probably stand out like a sore thumb but thats no excuse to be rude (family fewds/arguments shouldnt happen infront of customers and unfortunately for them, i am actually a native French spoken brit and do understand everything they say!) and when you run a business you really shouldn't have a kids playroom in half the commercial floor space, especially if going by another review, the owners actually got upset at them when their children started playing with toys which were lying around in the middle of the commercial area and were told off for doing so. And i won't even start on the state of the toilet upstairs (no disabled facilities).
All in all, Duras is a lovely place with a lovely history and castle, spoilt by rude, greedy bar owner(s).
We suggest staying away from this place and going somewhere else.More
Unpretentious, located by the Chateau in Duras, excellent coffee, a good selection of beer. Not a great selection of food, but very tasty salads, Croque Monsieur ect. Family run, a friendly place to soak up the atmosphere.
We are Brit Expats living in Spain and had booked a week long gite holiday to Duras after watching a U.K. programme on Channel 4. We arrived in Duras just after 2pm and as check in wasn’t until 4pm we stopped Of for lunch at...this lovely little bar/cafe. Living in Spain we are so used to lunchtime being 2-4pm, but in France it is 12-2pm, so probably was a bit late for lunch. We both ordered a Croque monsieur and a lemonade and a sparkling water and I can honestly say that both were just absolutely perfect. The ambience was relaxing, peaceful and as if time was insignificant - just as life should be. The waitress was very attentive and extremely thorough in cleaning the tables. A great start to our holiday. Can’t praise it enough and would recommend it to any fellow travellers. Very French , which is just what we wanted. Happy days, Enjoy!More
