We enjoyed our meal here. The welcome was pleasant, the cleanliness very good and nice to see local shellfish on the menu ( well presented and priced but the actual lobster and crab content of the total meal is very small- it felt rather out of balance and carbohydrate heavy).
My main complaint was the text service used to remind me of my telephone made booking. Clearly someone had entered my details into the ‘open table’ site without asking my permission and they then text me asking me to confirm my booking. I did this without really thinking about it. However a few days later I was notified by my phone provider that I was being charged for premium text services outside of my service agreement. This caused me some worry as it had never happened before. True it was a nominal amount but at first I thought my number may be being misused in some way. Even when I realised it was down to the ‘Ship Inn’ I do wonder whether they had the right to pass my number onto ‘Open Table ‘ without my permission. Why is this necessary?

Guided here by "dog friendly" (it was), we found a people-friendly warmth. Proper pub, but with very good freshly-cooked food. The steak and ale pie had to be ordered with a 20 minutes wait because it had obviously been freshly baked, and was delicious in a cheese pastry with gravy/sauce on the side. We shared a half pint of prawns as a starter, lovely fresh prawns with a lime/lemon dip.

Really glad we discovered this place! We were warmly welcomed by some of the friendliest and most polite staff we’ve ever met.
The mulled wine was just perfect on a cold day. The baguettes were fresh, tasty and generously sized, with excellent side salads. The Rocking Rudolph beer was perfect.
We were lucky enough to get a seat by the window, where we could enjoy the roaring wood burner and the twinkly Christmas decorations.
We timed it right – as many people arrived after us and (like us) hadn’t booked. There were lots of ‘Reserved’ tables, but the helpful staff somehow managed to find room for everyone.
They were unfailingly courteous and considerate to everyone who came in – even the large group of green-welly wearers who arrived in dribs and drabs, and who were unsure of how many they numbered, but were “certain” they’d booked a table, despite there being no record of their ‘booking’. It turned out they’d booked a table at The Ship Inn in Weymouth. They were cheerfully accommodated and smilingly seated. I just hope they left a big tip!

This pub has prioritised diners over visiting drinkers and are happy to alienate drinkers by requesting they wear a face mask at the bar. This is not a government requirement and yet this pub has deemed it necessary to apply this draconian interpretation, albeit they have full Perspex screens around the bar with a small hatch through which to pay for your drinks. On entering the pub at lunch time the barman barked at us “only 1 person at the bar”. We were a couple with another family waiting at the door to enter. I tried to order a drink and was told there were no tables and by the way the garden is closed. I asked if we could drink outside on the seating at the front of the pub and was told absolutely not. Overall an unwelcoming experience. Do not rate this pub by the quality of its food. A village pub should about a pleasurable experience, great welcoming service and being accommodated wherever possible. This pub misses the mark on all these criteria.

Thank you for your review.
Quite simply we have prioritised surviving.
You are correct wearing face masks is not a government requirement, it is however recommended by WHO and the government when social distancing cannot be adhered to. This is the case at the bar. We chose keeping our staff and customers safe foremost.
In line with the 42 page guidelines we received from the government we introduced a one way system through the bar area. This means as it is a narrow area ( punch point is the term the government use), we can only allow one person from a group at the bar.
The garden was closed due to the extremely high winds ( 60 miles an hour) we had been experiencing over night and had brought down a tree and lifted the marquees. It was as necessary for the safety of our guests.
Yes we were fully booked inside. We are fully booked for next few days too. Having lost over 25% of our seating, being closed for nearly four months and having to spend money on Covid precautions I’m sorry that we have to chose bookings over the chance people might pop in for a drink.
Decisions have had to be made for pubs to survive.
The absolute vast majority of our guests are extremely grateful we have taken the Covid guidelines seriously, as you will see from the positive reviews we have.
Keeping safe and keeping going is all pubs can do right now.
Sadly you can’t please everyone !

We visited to celebrate a family birthday.
The menu had a good choice, although we thought a little over priced.
We ordered sone bread with balsamic vinegar and oil and some pork scratchings. The oil tasted like it was just olive oil and the pork scratchings were spicy, which caused my Mother to choke as it hadn't said they were spicy. When she recovered, she asked staff why it didn't say on the menu that they were spicy and they just shrugged.
My brother had the buttermilk chicken breast. He took a bite and it was really tough and stringy. He didn't want to make a fuss and just decided to leave it but when the waitress came round to ask if everything was OK, I spoke up and said that he wasn't happy. My brother said he didn't want anything else and she took it away. The rest of us carried on eating and we thought nothing more of it. None of us were prepared for what happened next.
The cook came storming through the restaurant ranting that there was nothing wrong with the chicken, whilst pulling it to pieces in front us! The whole restaurant fell silent. We were absolutely stunned by this behaviour.
My brother just held his hand up and asked the cook to refrain from his abuse and leave him alone.
Everyone was looking at us and it was very embarrassing.
I have never experienced such confrontational and intimidating behaviour. It ruined my brothers birthday celebrations and left a marr on the rest of our stay. A very upsetting experience.

Hi Mary,
As with your dining partner below thank you for taking the time to write another review to replace the one removed by trip advisor. A copy of which I have kept for its libellous content.
Once again thank you also for the imaginative take on events, the restaurant that you refer to was in fact our lounge bar which was occupied by a table of two. If you noticed I said hello and happy Christmas to them on my way to your table. They are regulars who on your departure took the time to apologise to my staff that customers would act in the way you did.
Our prices are highly competitive, we use fresh, local ingredients. Not pre packed microwave produce, however you do describe yourself as a thrifty traveller.
The "pork scratchings" are on the menu as Cracklings and are a New Orleans dish. Far from just shrugging I stood at the bar explaining to your mother (?) exactly what they were how they are cooked and on being asked if we could do them without the seasoning apologised that is how they are cooked. I did note that they were all eaten!
Again thank you for the poetic licence, there was no storming through the restaurant. I simply came to your table, stopping to wish others happy Christmas, and attempted to help but was met with no reasoning for what was actually wrong with the chicken. I asked if your brother would like something else. Nope. I even took it off the bill without being asked. So I'm unclear as to who the 'everybody was looking at us' refers. If you're referring to the table next to you, yes they were appalled by how you were treating staff.
Thank you for emptying the contents of the the condiments all over the floor. It shows the level of respect you have for our staff.
Yes things go wrong sometimes, we're human, the good part of trip advisor is that the reader gets to look at all the reviews and wonder how the previous review can be so praiseworthy of the staff, the welcome, the food and yet your visit literally every single part was so horrendous. makes you wonder.

We had booked an AirBnB in Weybourne with very little planning of the trip, but booked a Sunday evening meal for our first night at The Ship Inn, which was a Sunday so we hoped that the Sunday roasts would still be available.
When we arrived at the bar we were greeted with a warm and friendly welcome, ordered our drinks then took our seats in the lounge (not being lucky enough to have a dog). Our waitress was also very friendly and soo. Took our order, we were pleased to find that the roasts were still available albeit one of the four meat options had “run out”.
Our sharing starter was delicious and wonderfully presented, then came the roasts, which were delicious and good portion size, leading to a little struggle to finish.
Having filled ourselves we couldn’t fit in a dessert, even refusing to view the menu.
We loved it so much we changed our plans on Monday to return for lunch and them booked in agin for the evening.
The lunch menu was equally as tasty and beautifully presented, as were our evening meals, this time we didn’t have a starter so we could have a dessert, which we were very pleasantly surprised to find had more on it than we’d thought from our review on their website, we could’ve quite easily ordered one of everything!
In summary this is a must if you visit the area, the staff are wonderful and the food is fantastic, all cooked to order.
We will be back.

When hiring our Airbnb for the weekend the owners recommended the ship as a great place for food which was dog friendly and wasn’t wrong. Doggie treats on the bar for our furry friend was a nice touch. The staff were lovely and friendly. The food was very tasty and reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend the slow cooked beef stew! A lovely experience for our first evening in Weybourne!

We read the reviews and decided there was no better way to spend a few hours on a cold wet day. The car park was busy but we luckily got a space as some was leaving. We were greeted by a friendly lady behind the bar who gave us a table for two in the dog friendly side of the restaurant, where there is 8 tables seating between 2 & 4 people. Drinks were quickly served and we selected two Sunday roasts, one lamb and one vegi. I don’t know which pub one reviewer went to when they said the only vegi option was garlic mushrooms but it certainly wasn’t this one. As a vegi myself I always have a good look at the menu to see if there are enough options to entice me back and there definitely are. The food came quickly ; mine had a huge slab of nut roast which was obviously home made and stacked full of nuts and seeds very tasty. The husband had lamb and was served with 2 thick slices. Both meals came with a huge Yorkie, roast spuds, thick cut carrots, roast spuds and a Vegi mash. Cauliflower cheese was also provided. The gravy was tasty and just the right amount was served. A great experience, good food & drink ( the wine was good), lovely staff and doggie friendly. We will be back on our next visit.

This is a great pub, with super friendly staff and fabulous food. It is providing a delivery service during the Covid-19 lockdown and today we had a superb roast lunch - roast potatoes, carrots, cauliflower cheese, red cabbage, mashed swede and Yorkshire pud, and beef/pork/nutroast. It was all cooked to perfection and the nutroast was the best our resident vegan has ever tasted (and they've had a few!). We will definitely be taking advantage of this service in the future.

So Covid secure - the owner has worked hard, moving with the times. We visited in the summer and sat in the Covid friendly garden, all kitted out ready for rain and heaters in place for when it gets cold. We ate in the garden one night and did a takeaway to eat at the beach on another. 3 months later and we are back in the area. Once again we have had takeaways, an amazing Sunday roast and then fish and chips. Again more developments, little wagon style tables outside and special branded takeaway boxes have been sourced. Says it all when you can’t book a table for 6 days! Takeaways need to be ordered online by 12noon. Food is lovely, staff so professional and a pub that has moved with the times. We wish you luck and will be back next time we visit the area.

This Pub has gone all out to implement sensible and effective covid measures that were observed by most patrons.
The meals that we had there on a Saturday evening and Sunday lunchtime were all well cooked and presented and the service from a young staff was excellent.
In fact the only thing that was disappointing was the constant slamming of the back door as people left or went to use the toilets. A small investment in a spring closure would have been most welcome.

We were lucky to get in booked up,always a good sign, we had a pod outside very nice and cosy.We each had the Home smoked ribs and spicy buffalo wing combo
Tennessee style dry smoked ribs, buffalo spicy wings with onion rings, coleslaw, homemade spicy Texas bbq sauce, sour cream and chive and hand cut chips.
The quality and quantity were to say the least over the top, we should have one between us we couldn't finish it too, too much for two OAP's. However we did our best.
We had a great evening Thankyou and all your staff they were very good.

I've had some nice meals in this pub, but unfortunately it seems to have gone drastically downhill and after the experience I feel obliged to write this review.
The waiter was rude and just dropped the food on the table and walked off, which my girlfriend commented on before there was any other problem. The food then came in a tiny paper bowl with wooden fish and chip style cutlery. When the waiter came and asked if everything was okay, I said I was struggling to eat my food, he shrugged his shoulders and said they were short on pot washers as he walked off. At this point, he could have just brought me another paper bowl so at least I could eat more than one thing at once rather than struggling.
Its not like me at all to complain but this meal was such a poor experience that I went into the bar and politely complained, explaining that I come here fairly regularly and it's never been like this, the manager was extremely rude and told me that he would only listen if "everyone out there comes in and complains". There was not even a "sorry you didnt enjoy your food".
I left a polite review on google but obviously highlighted the above points and that we didnt enjoy the meal. The manager of this pub has then found me using Facebook and messaged my family about the review, completely out of order and unprofessional.
I appreciate that things do not run as smoothly during current times, but Covid is not an excuse for outright rudeness.

We visited The Ship for lunch. I had a fish pie which was served in a metal dish on a plate with vegetables that kept the pie piping hot throughout the meal.
My Wife had half a lobster. Vanilla cheesecake to finish the meal which was delicious and the best cheesecake I have tasted. The waitresses were very friendly and efficient.
The restaurant has a good safe system in accordance with regulations related to the corona virus. All the staff were wearing masks.

We were unable to book a table for Sunday dinner so decided to order a takeaway and were certainly not disappointed. Each dinner came in separate containers, with the gravy and Yorkshire puddings packaged separately. Two of us opted for beef which was tender, tasty, thick cut and plentiful, my Aunt chose lamb and said it was gorgeous, and once again was a very generous portion. With the meat came roast potatoes, swede, carrots, red cabbage and cauliflower cheese, all cooked to perfection. At the grand total of £30 for three, we were more than satisfied and will definitely consider doing the same on our next visit to Norfolk.
