Good, honest, homemade pub food at a decent price. We had fish and chips, hunters chicken, nutella cheesecake & warm waffles and ice cream + drinks. All tastey. Mains portion sizes were perfect; quite big, as pub food should be! Desserts were also large! In hindsight we probably should have ordered one between us (the slab of cheesecake was big!).... More

The pub is cosy and the staff friendly. We had been recommended to go here but were very disappointed with our food. Cheap sausages, thick cold gravy, soggy vinegar chips and a burned Glamorgan sausage.

A few friends and I went for a meal here and it was a lovely evening. There's a real cosy country pub atmosphere and the food was homemade and terrific. We had the curry and gave it top marks. The dessert was phenomenal. Quite possibly the biggest piece of homemade cheesecake I've ever encountered and also, the only one to... More

Pie, chips and gravy. Sounds simple. It was..... and stunning. Home cooked chips, lovely pie and great service. Setting is lovely and quality Grey Trees beer to wash it down. A perfect lunch.

I called in here on a Friday in late January. I opted for the beer battered cod, chips and peas ( not on the menu but was a "special" ). The portions were enormous and both the fish and the chips were absolutely delicious. A good choice of beers, and very friendly staff. I'll definitely be back there - very... More

Visited my local for Sunday lunch instead of cooking and it was fabulous, a choice of beef chicken or lamb, with plenty of veg and potatoes and a side Yorkshire pudding, I had the farmhouse paté to start (couldn't resist) and the sticky toffee pudding to finish. Safe to say I couldn't move when I returned home I was so... More

Our party of 8 from Essex reserved a table at the Red Cow Saturday night to celebrate completing The Fan Dance. The food was 'real pub grub', huge portions and simply delicious. The friendly service from all the staff was just superb!! Highly recommend a visit to this tucked away pub if you visit Merthyr Tidfil - we will return... More
