So we escaped the rain, into the nearest bar, and wow, what a find this is, Warmly welcomed by the Hosts, we were told that there were only 4 seats available for lunch service, One look at the menu made our minds up that this was a place we would enjoy, and we did ! The staff were incredibly busy, but found time to smile and pass comments as they went about serving, Chef is creative, and produces food that makes you want to go back again, and we hope to one day. Highly recommend. Parking opposite, take my tip, do book ahead !.

Le Chaudron du pere Marches is at 18 Allee de la Republique, Castillon la Bataille, it’s opposite the Church. We went there years ago, when it was very French, you sat on benches at long tables in a crouded downstairs room, mixed up with artizans, workers and Professional people, drank the wine in tumblers from communal 1 litre carafs and ate 5 courses of artizan food starting with soup, ending with thick black coffee. It was modernised a number of years ago, has rooms both on the ground and first floor, which has a view through the trees of the church and square. It has a room full of wine in racks, all priced so you go and choose todays wine. We have been twice, had the lunch time menu, with a small beer and ½ litre caraf of red wine for 54 euros.

A smart restaurant in the centre of town with seating outside. The staff were really accommodating for our baby with high chairs (they borrowed another high chair from a nearby restaurant to accommodate another family). Food was reasonably priced and really good. Indoor area was also really smart. Would go there again. Also, very close to the river to walk off the food with a view!

You need to reserve especially if you want outside seating. Service is first rate as two owners are really moving and pleasant. We ate there twice and each meal was splendid. Highly recommend. All meals were first quality.

We arrived just before closing and the hostess was so gracious to us. She sat us right away. We had just finished two wine tours/tastings and we were hungry. This was hand down the best food we have had in our journey through France thus far. You can taste the love in the food. I highly recommend! Service, food and atmosphere were 10 out of 10

Called in for lunch on the off-chance. Place was heaving as ever - albeit all socially-distancing well! Yet we were found a table after a short wait and looked after well. Tasty set menu and good wine list. Great example of the lovely art of eating well at lunchtime. Best to book!

We were recommended here after visiting Chateau La Clariere Laithwaite. Excellent pork belly, followed by creme brulee, a carafe of superb house red, absolutely brilliant value at 60 euros and sixty cents for four people. The sweet and sour glaze on the pork belly was amazing.

We enjoyed a really good lunch in this popular restaurant the other day. Opting for the set menu, the starter was an egg in a gorgeous sauce, with bacon. Awesome! Then a lovely tranche of veal, perfectly cooked. Friendly, efficient service and amazing value.

Stopped for lunch on a very busy day, had to wait for a table as it was so busy but the lovely waitress signalled to us when it was ready. Well worth the wait, fantastic menu du jour, we all had duck fillet which was excellent. Great experience.

A wide range of menu choices at good prices. At least half of the clients were local business people with reserved outdoor tables; a good sign. Friendly personal prompt service and good food options. This was an impromptu visit, but we were very satisfied with all aspects of our lunch. You won’t be disappointed!

There aren't many restaurants in the centre of Castillon la Bataille and unfortunately the outside seating of this is basically in the central car park. It wasn't busy when we were here but the service was somewhat on the slow side still the food when it arrived was worth the wait. I had a huge salad of the day but this was no mere pile of lettuce but full of chicken, cheese and a wide variety of vegetables. My husband had the steak, chips with veg and both of us were very satisfied. With half a litre of wine the bill came to 34 euros so no complaints there.
