Great home cooked Italian fare. Very friendly staff and great coffee. It never lets you down. The breakfasts are generous and the I love the little sausages.

Stopped in for lunch again with friends. Umberto's is one of Melbourne's typical small cafe/restaurants - a simple menu done well, good coffee and friendly service. We shared a starter of calamari which was perfect, not oily, tender and moist. Two of us had the pasta with veal ragu, whilst one of us had the Il Campagnolo breakfast which looked... More

A fabulous little family run cafe at the just beginning to get trendy Thornbury end of Northcote High Street. Basically it's the place you imagine when you close your eyes and think of Italian restaurants. Chatty waitresses, bowls of pasta and lemon pannacotta just like mamma used to make. One of those rare places where a couple on a date could... More

This is the best pasta you will have in Melbourne!! We travelled Europe last year and their amazing pasta dishes take us straight back to Roma! Good food, friendly staff.. leaves you wanting more but normally you'll leave full. And always leave a spot for their epic jam donuts!

Umberto may be the most authentic Italian restaurant in Melbourne. A big call I know! Don't let the tag 'espresso bar' fool you, this place is about good food not just coffee. The food is simple in a way that belies the quality of the cooking. Think meatballs with Napoli sauce or a range of pasta served in traditional Italian... More

Do not hesitate to experience breakfast, lunch or dinner, or even a cup of coffee of your choice at Umberto. You will think you are dining in Italy with an array of Italian memorabilia inside the place. We arrived for brunch. Had the Campagnolo & the Della Casa. Taste was superb and presented well on the plate. Very filling. I... More

A friend suggested we have lunch at a small "cafe/milkbar which was a family-run place serving simple Italian food", not far from him in Thornbury. This turned out to be Umbertos and an excellent suggestion. Whilst they serve a full breakfast menu, coffee, cakes, biscotti and the bombolinos, they also serve a small menu of primi, pasta, salads and secondi.... More

Melbourne's best pasta. Melbourne's best staff. Melbourne's best restaurant. Caters to everyone - warm and friendly, communal and the food is first class.

One of our regular local spots for dinner. We come for some zucchini fritters, a pasta and chianti. The cinnamon panna cotta is pretty good too. A small menu of simple and delicious Italian fare. This warm and cozy cafe style restaurant reminds us of our stay in Lucca.
