So I'm Canadian and while in Hakuba we had to try this place. Great Japanese food and nothing Canadian except for the fact owner Shige likes Kokanee beer and has skied at whistler. The staff were fun food was great. You have to check to be sure they are open. We found it challenging to find open place to eat... More

Ate here twice in 6 days. Such a great intro to Japanese food served by a great bunch of people. Nice to see both east and west diners all enjoying the food and hospitality.

Highly recommended! I would simplify in 3 attributes : a) fair price to the food b) unforgettable food (wagyu beef/chicken) c) feel warm and welcoming (friendly staff) I would come here again.

Over our stay in Hakuba we went to Canada-tei restaurant 3 times. Recommended by our hotel at first we found very nice staff, excellent food and a cosy ambience. The manager was very friendly and entertained our 2 boys with some dancing cat doll toys taking pleasure in seeing them laughing away. Very nice memory of the place and good... More

You can't go wrong with their Wagyu set. But prepare to shell out around $40 to $50. As it is usually packed during peak season, be sure to reserve a table especially for larger groups.

Very good wide variety of food in a very pleasing setting. The food is of an excellent standard, the service very friendly and the food and drink prices are reasonable. Well recommended.

I visited this place on our first night in Hakuba with my family. We sat at the bar counter on high chairs. My sons really enjoyed it. Food is good. Highly recommend!

Totally delicious food. Super friendly service. Lots of choices on the menu. Even a reasonable cocktail menu and a pretty good effort at making one...or two :)

A terrific Japanese teppanyaki. Great beef, okonomyakis and tuna sashimi. Went back three nights in a row! Just sit at the counter, chat with your neighbour and enjoy the best of Japanese food! The sake is wonderful too. Bev

Kids boxes had a great selection of wagyu beef, teppanyaki chicken, Goyza, fried potato with tomato sauce and vanilla ice-cream for dessert. Wagyu sukiyaki with egg was beautiful as was the chicken teriyaki. White wine was good with a mandarin flavour, which created some good conversation. Staff spoke good English and provided a good level of service. The dancing cats... More
