It is now May, and even though we ate there in January of this year, I'm still raving about it. We have eaten at a lot of the places in, and around Hakuba during several trips, and have to rate this little place at the top of the list for me. On two occasions we had lunch there. The second... We pulled in here after a long day on the slopes and curled up and had the most delicious meal. It was like a warm bowl of stew and a flash of hot green tea, food is so tasty you will be talking about it when ever you think of your holiday again.

Everything we had here was good! The soup was perfect for winter and the food was just good old Japanese fare. Simple, authentic, uncomplicated and unpretentious. Try the traditional buns (can't remember what they are called), very yummy!

Tried getting in to this place a few times. They don't take reservations, so first come first serve. We had tried twice before but each time the sign out front told us that they were full! Third time lucky, but it was fairly late so there was not much left available on the menu. We took what we could get... More

After a half an hour wait on a snowy evening, we were greeted with most delicious hot soup which is the name of the restaurant. Sashimi and sushi sets are fantastic and cheap! Food quality is not something you get anywhere else. It is a small restaurant so be prepared for a long wait and to share table with other... More

lovely traditional interior. Great service. hot pot is a speciality. We are pescatarian so got by in Japan, but if your vegetarian or vegan, your going to struggle to find variety in your meals. I highly recommend this place central location in Happo.

Great little restaurant with an awesome menu. Setup is interesting since you are likely to be sharing your table with others. Menu choice is pretty diverse and the taste is phenomenal. I highly recommend this place.

Dinner at Ohyokkuri last night with my (adult) son to celebrate my 70th birthday Knowing they have no wine, I brought a bottle of champagne At first they refused. Finally they agreed to it if I paid corkage of 1000 yen. Reluctantly I agreed When it came to paying they insisted on 2000 yen What a rip off And all... More

We queued up outside in the snow for about 20 minutes before we got in for a shared table. Fortunately it wasn't cold and we had a great time with some other dinners. We loved the casual atmosphere and the menu from food sets which is good for those who struggle with what to order and some wonderful small traditional... More

This Izakaya makes amazing miso stew in a big pot over a burner and it's super good on a cold winter night. Prompt service, excellent sushi and a nice selection of dishes. Great value too.
