Aussie Pub

Friendly locals, very welcoming. Food was nice, arrived quickly. Steak was cooked perfectly, salad was fresh. Real little Aussie pub with nice food, nothing flash about the place. Will visit again if passing through. Visited on a Tuesday, very quiet.

Disappointing

Had been wanting to try this place for a long time so headed out today. Only 1 staff member (due to illness) but only a few customers that that was not a problem. They could not take the Dine Voucher from NSW Services even though the NSW Services web site says they take them. Small but varied menu with reasonable choices. Food was served quickly and lady was very friendly and pleasant. I had chicken schnitzel and my wife had fish fillets. The chicken was a bit dry (I had decide not to get sauce or gravy) and the vegies were only just cooked which meant they were not very hot. The chips were good! Even allowing for it being a country pub it is basic and needs a good sort out. Sure the locals love it as it has been there for a long time but understand it has changed hands a few times recently.

GREAT pub food!

Came to have a small birthday bash at the pub on a Saturday with five others. I have seen this pub heaving with people when there has been an event but this night it just had the usual crowd on a warm November evening. It is standard pub food - steak, parmie, seafood basket, burgers, etc - but they are BIG helpings and really enjoyable. We had three scotch fillets and it was cooked to perfection. The outlook of the railway line, farms and mountains is superb - it really is worth popping in and having a cold ale and a good feed. And if your a train buff then this is your place! HIGHLY recommended!

Just when you thought it couldn't get worse...

6.30pm on a Saturday night. On-line menu wasn't available...or most of it wasn't Homemade menu for tge night attached to cash register. Some of that was sold out. Untrained staff at counter couldn't answer most questions. Kept saying "do you want me to find out?" I ordered a hamburger. Never EVER again Small very dry and tasteless meat pattie uninteresting salad greens with a slice of tomato that should have spent a month longer on the vine. No cheese or egg option. Small dry and toasted but unbuttered brioche bun. Pretty bloody awful. The beer battered chips were okay. $22 money down the drain.

Undercooked food and sticky tables

Where to start, staff were friendly. The only positive. Thread bare carpets, sticky tables, food either not cooked- salmon, or swimming in relish - steak sandwich. Windows filthy, and grubby chairs outside. Could be so much better with a bit of TLC

Dinner and a beer

For entree, we had the cob bread with garlic, chilli and cheese. Found that cheese was not melted chilli was hit and miss and was nearly impossible to cut through base to break up to consume. As for the main both had scotch one well done one rare. Well done was cooked good rare was over cooked the steaks themselves seemed to very tough for scotch fillet. Salad had very little dressing. Chips were nice and crunchy except the steak being sat on top of them made them soggy. As for the diane sauce was pretty much water probably the worst we have experienced. I don’t mind paying good money for a good feed but this came up well short but the beer was cold…..

As good as ever

It's been years since we've been to the Tarana and it's still a great destination. The pub was packed but the staff were brilliant and the food was still great pub fare. The dining area outside has expanded slightly and on a sunny day, enough shade and comfortable seating. Great country pub!

Great dinner

Had a lovely dinner at the pub during our stay in the area. My steak, veg and chips was perfectly cooked and my partner also had a great meal. Sitting in front of the fire on a cold winter night made it even better.

Tasty food in great location

We had booked online, however, the system didn’t work. We actually got a reminder about our booking for our 12 noon booking, at 9pm on the evening we eat at the venue! We had to wait fo the food van to arrive before they could start to cook our order for 4 people, everyone was in the same situation, a little bit out of there control. Overall great location food was good pub food, real negative we wanted coffee & tea after lunch...no go on this front.

What’s happened???

We used to love coming on a drive out to Tarana for a feed and a warm welcome at the ‘Na. Every visitor used to be welcomed with the locals saying gday, well I can tell you, Those days are gone! We’ve been a few times this year and have been disappointed massively - the food is terrible - think I could get a better feed at a servo. The place is looking shabby - from the crinkled menus covered in dirty brown marks, to the new outdoor roof which replaced the beautiful old wooden cover, covered with green leaves and foliage, the new steel and plastic cover has electric wires dangling everywhere and looks like a fire or accident waiting to happen. The menu was once a good one, now there is only limited options, the food being slapped onto the plate and the orders have been messed up the last 3 times we have been there. It’s like they don’t care and you can see that in the food service and quality - I would rate 1/10. Not good. There seems to be new owners and defiantly new management - they obviously do not care about the pub or it’s history. It’s a real shame, hopefully will get better soon before it goes broke and we loose another slice of the past.

Great pub with wonderful staff

Great pub in a beautiful setting which you can enjoy from the wonderful outdoor deck. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and I love to stop here after being out on the bike.

This great pub was kept open so we could drive from Goulburn to Tarana after a classic car rally. Every year, we dine at the pub after the rally; when we finished in Lithgow it was no drama but recently we have had to drive from Goulburn. One of our friends who lives at Meadow Flat had rung ahead and asked if they would keep the kitchen open for us. There were eleven of us, including five teenagers, so it probably was worthwhile. A wonderful old pub with friendly inhabitants. The meals are usually great. Luckily we were in the back room because we were a bit raucous conducting a post mortem on the rally.

Friendly place with great ambiance

We called in to the Tarana Pub after driving around the delightful little village The staff were friendly and helpful - the beer was cold a quenched like a beer should on a hot day Great home cooked meal Well worth a visit
