Best fish & chips!

It’s true! The best fish & chips. The batter was perfect. Strips of chunky, flakey fish. You can see behind a glass window where the fishery staff prepare the fish. Scenery on the dock is clad with fishing nets. Get the expensive but worth it, adult size!

Superb fish and chips

My wife and I stopped by for a fish and chip lunch today. We both ordered the small fish and chips. The fish was truly outstanding, with a light, crunchy coating. It is cooked to order so there is a short wait. We found the staff to be friendly and happy to chat about the fish they use and about how long the business has been operating. The lady who cooked our meal had been doing it for 42 years. She’s certainly got the hang of it now.

Good fish and chips in a prime location

Fresh fish with crispy batter. "Small" consists of '2' pieces of fish which turn out to be 5 smaller pieces which was fine with me. Fish was well cooked and tasty. Generous serving of OK fries and a side of commercial coleslaw. All the usual condiments available. There was plenty to eat for one person in the 'small' order. $14.95 They have an 'adult' order for $24.95. I didn't see it but it must be enough for two unless you are a starving lumberjack. Indoor seating as well as outdoor picnic tables lakeside by a moored fishing trawler, Good food and experience. Recommended for a simple light lunch.

Fresh strips of unknown fish and greasy chips.

Great location watched fishing boat come in and unload the days catch. Whitefish and Lake trout. The fish being served was good however not sure if it was pickerel, whitefish or? I should have asked however the information is not extended or posted. The serving size is hit and miss with the offering for the adult meal states 2 or three pieces of fish? Was told it depends on the size of the fillets however the pieces were small strips and not sure when the fillets are served? Prices were unreasonable considering the strips of fish that is served in the order. Chips were soft due to being soaked with grease which was disappointing having experienced fish and chips at another location the day before herberts did not come close to the value and the quality of the meal being served. Definitely the main take away from the “ herberts fish and chip experience is the location.

Over-rated tourist trap

2 stars for location and boat watching. This place is over-rated. I preferred this place when it was a bus, at least the food was hot and prices reasonable. But waiting 20 minutes in the sun at the counter for an order of 2 pops, 3 pieces of warm fish and a bunch of (no exaggeration) tepid fries for $30+ was a huge disappointment after previous years positive experience. Plus picnic tables covered in previous diners mess. Blech. For $20 more, upgrade to lunch at the Killarney Mountain Inn.

Very bad service and for the two scrawny pieces of fish, 6 chicken fingers, fries and two drinks cost 38 dollars and that was pick it up and eat elsewhere. It was our second and last visit to this crappy rip off place. We don’t understand why people line up at this restaurant Two strikes and you are out in my books, The person taking orders is about as helpful as a dead fish!!!

The fish coating has change, what happend?

We've been eating at Herberts out of Killarney for years. The fish coating has changed, what happened? Did they sell the place without the recipe? Portions for fish in the Adult meal were fine and the same as always, but they skimped on the fries. Wow has the price gone up too, $30! We ended up sharing one, but boy were we disappointed, the fish was tasteless. No where near as good or anything like what we consistently got in the past. In the past the fish was fresh caught, they often gave a variety of fish dependent on what they caught that day, it was always lightly coated in seasoned flour. What we got this trip was more like a the traditional English style wet batter, but this was thin and very crispy, it was not greasy, but it had zero flavor! We haven't been since before covid and were so looking forward to Herberts F&C, we always said it was the best F&C we ever had... sadly not anymore.

Went twice while passing through this July. Fish was fresh but pretty greasy, slaw was commercial supermarket grade - service was indifferent bordering on rude. Orders were super slow both times and it wasn't busy. Totally over-hyped and expensive.

Beautiful spot

2 adults. We split the meal with 3 to 4 pieces and chips for $24. All very hot and fish was fresh. Breading lacked seasoning was bland. Location is great lots to see. Staff not friendly. They need to make their own tartar sauce and ensure decent coleslaw. Disappointing had looked forward to trying it

Iconic Experience

We stopped for dinner at Herbert Fisheries our first night in Killarney. The restaurant has a few tables inside, but we ate at one of the many picnic tables on the pier. The fish isn't huge, so don't just order one piece. They're more like the size of a chicken finger. Fish, chips and onion rings were very good. Location was great too, right on the water.

Great view and yummy fish & chips

We visited the first day of the requirement to show proof of double vaccination and even though this a small establishment they were ready for the challenge. The fish was battered just right, light and crispy. I'm pretty sure that the fries were home cut. We are inside but there is lots of room and table on the patio on the waterfront. Great view from there. Highly recommend you stop by for a bit. As someone else has commented this is a prime location.

Not worth the drive

This had to be the worst fish and chips we ever had. We drove over 3 hours to get there, and what a waste of time and gas. Skinny pieces of over priced fish and chips that were not even hot. The fish was also very fishy tasting. People who say they were great, must have never had decent fish and chips before. This is certainly a place that will be crossed off our list.

We rented a cottage in Killarney in late August/Early September 2020 and got take out from Herbert Fisheries twice. I'm gluten/dairy free and they were able to accommodate, fish and chips were delicious. Definitely check them out if you are in the area.

Fantastic Fish and Chips! Service needs Improvement

While staying at the Lodge in Killarney we had supper at Herbert’s one night. The lightly crusted pickerel was divine! (They usually serve whitefish but were out and we prefer pickerel anyway... Yay!) Cooked perfectly and not greasy. The fries were delish as well! They are very diligent about Covid restrictions and we chose to eat outside on the back patio (we could see fishermen bringing in fresh catch). We do agree with another review in the sense that service was a bit rude at the front window. That needs to be addressed for such a well known establishment. Food was great though!

We flew in from Chatham Ontario to have the fish and fries as it was recommended by other pilots as a good fly in destination to eat. We were not disappointed. Food was great. Batter on fish was delicious. We loved the location right at the marina to watch the boats. Herberts offer pick up and ride back to the little airport which was awesome. We will go back.
