Lunch was enjoyable but we had to ask for horseradish, stated on menu it was served with roast beef. Also had to ask for additional gravy. Food could have been hotter. The bill was paid when I looked at it properly I realised 10% had...been added. This is optional but it is the final figure on the bill in the largest font, very presumptuous that you want to tip. You do not get asked when the card machine is brought to the table. This added a large lump o to the bill as there were 7 of us. Not happy.More

Went for Sunday roast and a pint recently, food was perfectly fine however the service has definitely gone down hill under the new management. Have been here many times recently and noticed tables do not get cleared outside or even in the restaurant and litter...is not picked up. We sat in garden for food and the three surrounding tables had empty glasses and half finished plates of food left on them, unoccupied for the whole 2 snd half hours we were there. This make it all geel a little grubby. Dinner was brought out without cutlery and there was no one outside anywhere keeping an eye on things. I even noticed the same in the restaurant area when passing through several times. On a very busy day i can understand things get behind but this day was almost empty. Bar staff seem under trained and slow and far less friendly compared to previous ownership. The whole place just seem to lack a little care. This pub/restaurant used to have an amazing energy, family vibe and buzz about it, that sadly is now all but gone.More

A terrible experience will never return while under this ownership. We visited for my wifes birthday lunch. We sat in the bar area which was empty. A waitress came and took our order and after 35 minutes our meals arrived without the cutlery to eat...them, was remedied by one of the bar staff. I tried the Henry 8 burger my wlfe had salmon. My burger was inedible, burnt so well I could not get my fork in it. My wifes salmon dish, the vegetables were not cooked and the portions so small. at home would not pass as a snack. I complained to the restaurant manager who said the restaurant area was busy and she only had 1 waitress and that was the reason for the delay, had we been told this from the start we could have gone elsewhere. The manager said had we complained when the meal was served she could have replaced the meals, my answer was and wait another 30 minutes ? My meal was not charged for and a 25% deduction on the other. We were regular visitors to the Bellhouse under the previous owner and never had a bad meal from a far more extensive and better menu. If anyone reads this I would recommend if you want a decent meal and good service you look elsewhere to do this as we shall be in future.More

We were visiting someone in Southend hospital. We are Shepherd and Neame fans so were pleased to find one in the area. The Bellhouse is a lovely venue, plenty of room inside and out. The young lady that served us (Teegan) was very helpful and...friendly. We both had burger and chips and it was lovely. My only complaint was that I couldn't finish it all! Although my husband managed. We will definately be returning.More

Had a Turkey roast dinner. Turkey was cooked well. Service was good. Portion was small size. No gluten free Yorkshire pudding available. No gluten free desserts option. Shame.

First visit in years for Sunday roast. Very busy so glad we booked. Food was good - although son’s duck on rice noodles starter wasn’t very nice as the noodles were hard and waitress took the plate back to kitchen, who agreed and said not...sure what happened but they shouldn’t have been like that. Loads on the plate for a roast, and my vegan nut roast was so flavoursome. Would definitely go backMore

We had the lamb and it was absolutely superb, the service was amazing, very friendly and delivered with a smile all the time, the member of staff we had was Libby and deserves a real complement on her hospitality skills she was fantastic , as...it was very busy and I am sure made the fairly busy restaurant run smoother than any I have seen in the past, well done to her, I would recommend the restaurant without hesitation.More

Delicious lunch with husband and two elderly relatives. Server (Conor) made sure the fish portions for the elderly people in the party were smaller to accommodate their appetites. Drinks served promptly, server was attentive but not intrusive.

From the very start we were made welcome by the Bellhouse Team. We had a booking for eight of us, we were directed to our table on time and the service was prompt, friendly & efficient. The food we chose was well presented and of...good quality. Our waitress (Genevieve) really looked after us and paid really close attention to the 4- and 8-year-old in our party. We would have no hesitation booking the Bellhouse again!More

We’ve eaten hare twice in the last couple of weeks, and have been amazed at the quality and sophistication of the food here. The service is outstanding, and the wine selection is good, and reasonably priced. We recently ate off the new menu, and the...appetizer of scallops served on a green beam purée is amazing. An unusual combination of tastes, but it works superbly. The duck confit main course is perfectly cooked, with the meat falling off the bone, and melting in your mouth. The lamb is similarly impressive. A wonderful meal ……More
