We stopped for lunch on a drive to Digby. What a treat! Good food and friendly staff who shared a history lesson about this historic store/ restaurant. Excellent fries (skin on thick fries) and fried clams. The poutine is just right. ask for donair meat....We also found groceries and used books in this restaurant that like a museum.More

We stayed around the block at a fantastic B&B and wanted to enjoy a local meal that we could walk to. Voila! Mud Slide Cafe. A serious chef, great fish and chips. Nice selection of beers at the attached grocery that you purchase and bring...over to your table. His breading was tasty and hand cut fries were excellent. The burgers all looked pretty good too. There is a wide array of desserts, be sure to split one. If in Maitland, this is the place! People coming in were mostly local and all very friendly with one another.More

We were staying at a nearby b&b and came here for dinner at the recommendation of our inn keeper. This is a small, funky place with vintage advertisements and cartoons on the wall and a short menu of pub food (fish and chips, poutine, burgers,...plus several kinds of pie). The chef clearly takes pride in his work and turns out a mean dish of fried clams and fish and chips. No liquor license yet, but the chef says it's on the way. Make friends with the stray cats outside!More

On a cold and blustery June 1 morning we were riding our bike, heading south along the coast when we saw the sign for the Mud Slide Café. We stopped, dreaming of a warm café with good coffee and something to eat. It was well...before opening time, but the wonderful folks inside welcomed us in, made the best coffee that we’ve had in Nova Scotia (no kidding, bar none) and together with a few locals entertained us with lively conversation for nearly an hour. It was too early to order from the menu, but found good muffins in the General Store next door that went well with our coffee. After two cups of coffee we’d warmed up and had to head down the road. We were disappointed that we couldn’t stay until the opening time to enjoy their food, which smelled absolutely brilliant, but if your travels ever take you through Maitland, you need to stop and this fabulous café. The coffee is the best, and I’m certain that the food is delicious. Even more than that, the good souls that run the place and who live nearby are the best rewards for time on the road. Do stop at Mud Slide Café!More

We ended up at the Mudslide Cafe by chance. The experience was something like taking a step back in time. The cafe is at the far end of a general store and the anti room to the local laundromat. The decor takes you back to...the last century, the hosts are friendly and always polite. Their pride in the work that they do is true and refreshing. We just might go out of our way to experience this again. Oh, I am forgetting to mention that the fare though simple was perfect!More

Located in the oldest general store, Frieze and Roy’s in Nova Scotia, the cafe offers light d.I er food and ice cream. Located in Maitland, an old shipbuilding village on the southern shore of the Bay of Fundy, has charming buildings and beautiful vistas of...the highest tides in the world. Watch for wonderful art galleries in Maitland and it’s next door neighbor, Selma during the Spring they Autumn months.More

Great little spot with a most welcoming host, Linda. The fish servings were large and the fries plentiful. We also offered onion rings and these were crisp and crunchy. No grease here! Just an excellent lunch.

This is a quaint little cafe with a general store. We had the fish, chips and onion rings. Everything arrived piping hot and it was delicious! The batter on the fish was homemade and delicious. Our server, Laura, was pleasant and helpful, and she told...us all about Burntcoat Park - which we subsequently visited and really enjoyed. We will definitely visit this little cafe again!More

We went to Maitland today to see the museum and to visit Canada‘a oldest general store and seen this restaurant and decided to stop to have lunch. Best decision, because we left with a full belly and smiles on our faces. The food was DELICIOUS...and they were large portions. The gentleman who made the food/served it was quite the hostess and made us feel welcomed and at home. My children loved it here and were already asking in the car to go back next time. Best sundae we have had too!!! Thank you for such a wonderful experience today Mud Slide Cafe!!!!More

We were on a way to Burntcoat Head Park for a 'walk the ocean floor' tour and needed to find a place for breakfast...The Mud Slide Cafe was the perfect spot. We came before opening hours and Dorothy accommodated us by serving breakfast early. Food...was delicious. While waiting for breakfast we browsed the memorabilia lining the walls and bought some books to support a local children's initiative. After breakfast we picked up some supplies in the store.More
