This is an excellent restaurant located between the Kia Ora and the main part of Avatoru. The menu is written on a blackboard, and the seating is in what is basically a covered garden patio. When we were there two weeks ago, the choices were Mahi Mahi or steak. We each ordered Mahi Mahi--one plate with sauce vanille and the... More

While it is true the restaurant does not have a water view, the large and tasty portions made us go back. It was next to our B&B so also convenient. Unforgettable mahi mahi in vanilla sauce. And when my husband craved a meal from home (we live in France) a hearty stewed beef that melts in your mouth (daube). The... More

Very good food at a reasonable price (for FP). Good fresh tuna. If the chef needs basil, he just steps into the yard and trims it off the bush.

The food was alright, but very overseasoned. I'm a solo traveler, and was eating with a French family I met. When I asked, in English, for salad instead of rice, the owner said, "Will you please just speak French?" in a nasty tone. I apologized for not being fluent enough to convey my order, but that thankfully he was a... More

Nothing special insofar as atmosphere here but the food was good.We enjoyed the mahimahi in curry sauce and the mahimahi in basilic sauce. Both were very tasty with very rich sauces.

My boyfriend and I ate at Obelix a couple of times while staying on Rangiroa. The food was simple but delicious. Portions are very generous so prepare for a good feeding. The owner is incredibly friendly and accommodating. His English is okay but not fluent so prepare to signal a few times what you may need. The food was very... More

The perfectly seasoned, tender, great grilled steak served at Chez Obelix came just as I asked for it - blue and was too much even for my appetite generated by earlier dives. If you feel hungry and like good home made food this is the place to visit!

The first impression when you get there is that it has anything fancy at all. When you start to eat and talk to him you know that it doesn't matter at all and is good like that! Best tuna steak ever! Totally fresh and the sauce is made with products from his garden. Couldn't be best believe me, and we... More

Just a snack with a few picnic tables, go for the food. Choices and preparations are simple: fish or steak? Marlin or mahi-mahi? Pepper sauce, vanilla sauce or curry? Fries or salad? The steaks are thin, but tender and perfectly cooked. The fish is exquisitely fresh, moist and melt-in-your-mouth delightful.

Variety offered in the menu. Kindness. Simplicity. Price. And the owner, nicknamed Obelix, is the greatest of souls: make sure you go there as he uses the little money he makes to help others through NGOs in Madagascar. Such people are rare.
