We booked an evening here during our last trip to Aruba to celebrate our anniversary. Our first impression is was not the greatest as the signage in the parking lot to the restaurant is not the greatest. Took some faith walking down a unmarked path to find the place - maybe we just missed it. We were seated immediately and got a table on the edge of the beach over looking the cove the restaurant sits on. The atmosphere at Old Man and the Sea is incredible. Tables in the sand, with palms canopying the whole 10-table dining area, lit only by the table lighting and Tiki torches sprinkled about. The sound of gentle waves splashing about provides for some romantic background music for good conversations. There was also a table/hut over the water that was available to guests of the villas if one wanted extra ambiance. This beach side dining is vastly different than the other beach side options on the island where your table sits on or very close to the public beach, where there is much foot traffic. As we typically did on this trip, we ordered appetizers and entrees, with dessert being dependent on how stuffed we were. Appetizers were Ceviche and Clams with Sambuca. The ceviche was just okay, done well, but lacked anything to set it apart from the other options sprinkled about the island. The clams were much better and the wine sauce added a significant flavor and was well seasoned. Again, extra bread was brought in to soak up the left over juices. For the entrees we ordered the Lobster and Shrimp a la Vodka and the Glazed Sweet Thai Duck Breast. Both of these fell flat on the taste scale. The lobster and shrimp dish lacked any additional flavor, not even a hint of salt or pepper to the sauce that was over the pasta. It seemed like something that was pulled out of the fridge and reheated, toss a lobster tail and a few ship on top, nothing special. The duck was not much better. The duck was a bit dry and the glaze didn't have a significant flavor to it, just sweet. The service was fine, but the water glasses run dry a couple of times. We enjoyed our meal because it was our anniversary and it was romantic, but the food left us searching the menu of the Flying Fishbone next door for a dessert option ...

Very beautiful and romantic restaurant. The background music enhances the beauty. We went there for our 30th anniversary, I was hoping they would surprise my spouse with a candle in the dessert or something since I wrote that in the request next to “are you celebrating anything”. Didn’t happen. It’s a 3 course meal. We were given a tablet to look at to see the choices. No paper menus. No prices either. The cocktail I ordered was very good. The appetizer we chose was salad with fish cake. The meal was seafood medley. The lobster was a bit chewy, the muscles a little flakey, the fish was good as so was the shrimp. Mashed potatoes and vegetable medley were served as well. The dessert was a cashew cake. Total bill for 2 people, 1 cocktail, including service charge was $175. We added another $10 for attentiveness of staff. The romantic setting is A plus. The food probably about a B. The staff A plus plus!

Wow, what a beautiful, quaint and romantic restaurant. There are about 7 tables right on the water which makes it very personal. You are surrounded by breathtaking views from the ocean to the jungle/bohemian like decor. Live entertainment was excellent. The food was delicious with awesome wait staff who were attentive and personable. I celebrated my birthday here and the waiter came out with a guitar accompanied by multiple staff members to personally sing their different version of “happy birthday.” Truly feels like a picture picture spot. Can’t recommend this place enough!!

I really like the setting of the restaurant. I will say when I walk in and sat down and offer to pick a song for life music I was so happy I picked this place for new year eve dinner. I have seen enough review and pictures and decided to give it a try. This place will be amazing if there is a new chef. The food can’t even be described as mediocre. Soup and dessert is the worst I hard in my life for a cream soup and crème brûlée. If you are watching a bed show they will just dump it in the sink. I did not even touch any of the dessert. It’s such simple set menu and huge disappointment. The steak came out well done. I kept telling myself I came for the view to pay a premium but at to the end of the dinner service server came with the bill and he put the card in the machine I have no time to understand the tip is included and end up I paid 30% of tips and dinner came to over 300 for 2 with just a set menu with a crap bottle of wine. I would love to come back if the food it better and the restaurant has so much potential. Please do check out the restaurant if you don’t care about the food and want a romantic evening and I think all the positive reviews are from couples having the most romantic evening and love in the air really change your tastebuds.

With a beachfront setting that feels more like Tahiti than Aruba, Old Man and the Sea is Aruba's most romantic place for dinner. A steel drum player greeted us as we entered the seating area. Our table was feet from a small beach overlooking bungalows that look more at home in Bora Bora. The menu has a nice mix of local specialties like a keshi yena appetizer that I ordered and my wife ordered their take on Bang Bang Shrimp. Both delicious. If there is anything about OM&TS to criticize, it is with the entrees. I ordered grouper with a creole sauce that was good, but not great, and my wife's surf and turf lobster/steak entrée contained a filet mignon that wasn't going to make her forget about Ruth's Chris or the filet mignon we buy and make ourselves. Desert was excellent. I had the tres leches cake that was moist without being wet like the desert can be and my wife's ice cream with oreo crumbles was also fantastic. But we could only manage a few bites as we were stuffed by then. But don't let my criticisms distract you; the setting and service totally overcame any minor shortcomings with the food. Once the steel drum player stopped, I thought we were listening to an easy listening CD featuring a singer cranking out a range of tunes, but when I went to the bathroom I was shocked to see that someone was actually singing live! It was our favorite part of the experience, listening to the singer and knowing he was just around the corner. His voice was amazing. So if you wanna feel like you're being whisked off to Tahiti while in Aruba, definitely go to Old Man and the Sea. While you may have better food on the island elsewhere, you won't have a better, more romantic experience.

The Old Man & The Sea Restaurant is a magical place that is filled with amazing service and specular food... as well as romantic ambiance. As soon as you step through the doors of this beautiful property, you are surrounded by gorgeous tropical vegetation, stunning local artwork and tranquil music. We had an incredible server named Ryan. He went above and beyond to ensure that we enjoyed every moment of our dining experience from our delicious food and wine selections to taking the time to take cherished most memorable photos for us. He was an absolute professional with a kind heart and enthusiasm for his work and the island of Aruba. We had the pleasure of meeting Rocky, the restaurant manager and Dexter, the assistant restaurant manager, who are both true gentleman. They were attentive and made a point to visit with each guest dining with them to add to the welcoming and inviting atmosphere of the restaurant. During our first dinning experience, we expressed that we would love to come back to dine again during our stay. They extended a warm welcome and were able to secure an additional reservation even though there was no availability on Open Table. We truly appreciated their kindness and professionalism. A review of The Old Man & The Sea Restaurant would not be complete without mentioning Daisy and Benny, who are two friendly pups that are on property. They are a positive addition to the relaxed and welcoming environment. The Old Man & The Sea is one of the most amazing restaurants that we have had the pleasure of visiting. We could not say enough about the two incredible dinning experiences that we had and the memories that we created to last a lifetime. We are looking forward to dinning there again each and every time we visit Aruba and would highly recommend all to experience this true gem. Masha Danki to the entire staff at The Old Man & The Sea Restaurant!

The chef tonight hit it out of the park, our dinner was phenomenal! (Last night we ate at Oak which is booked months in advance, however the chef here is on par with all fine dining we have experienced on this island and throughout the states). Every single staff member is attentive, kind, and personable. The ambiance is unlike any dining experience on the island, you feel like you've been transported to Bali. A one man Calypso steel drum artist played and sang while we ate 5 star level food, watching the sun set, with our toes in the sand. This place is unmarked; so drive past the Flying Fishbone, walk through the paths of greens of the Aruba Ocean Villas, and have a fantastic meal on the eater's edge. Also, we highly recommend staying here in one of the villas. It's been a dream! Thank you Marialisa, Rocco, Ryan, and all other fantastic staff members that made us feel at home ❤️ -Mr. & Mrs. Chupi

We walked in and immediately loved the place. We sat down and did not see anyone for a good 20 mins. Then they brought some water and left. Another 20 mins and they came back to ask what we wanted to drink. When we booked it, it said $55 per person. There were no prices on the menu. We had a choice of an appetizer, entree and dessert. The food was good. Service was lacking the entire time. When they brought us the check it was $90 per person, a 15% service charge was added and the the total was just at $300 for two people. I don't mind paying for awesome but paying this much for average and below average is disappointing. The reviews are great so it may have been an off night. The waiters did not seem to know anything about the menu either.

Didn't realize that most tables were on the sand. We requested a table not on the sand and they gave us a table on a deck. When we ordered I wanted the lobster ala vodka. Waitress never mentioned they had NO lobster but they would substitute addl shrimp at the same $50 price. It was a pretty setting with big chairs and couches all over. The food was ok...had to settle for stuffed chicken. We could never find our waitress and went looking for her to pay the bill. We won't go back.

A stunning location for dinner , that requires months in advance to reserve and a one hundred dollar cancellation fee. For that said, service with top notch food is expected. We both ordered the catch of the day and substituted mashed potatoes instead of risotto . We were brought out fish with risotto and was told they forgot the mashed . The wrong meal . We waited … and waited but finally ate fish and left risotto . When the server returned , with no mashed for second time , she blamed the kitchen staff . We told the server we wanted an adjustment in our bill and she sent the manger . After waiting again the manger finally came and interrogated us as to what the issue was . After making it clear we were more than ready to leave she told us she would take $50.00 off bill ( the price of one dinner). She took off $40.00 when the bill arrived. We were so initially impressed with the ambience , we were going to book a couple of nights at the ocean villa and extend our vacation , but quickly decided the details and service and kindness of restaurant staff would not be worth the price of the over the water bungalows .

The entire staff here made us feel welcomed and took great pride in serving our group! Rocky, Saldi, Wendell, and Ryan were all fabulous! The ceviche, the drinks, the catch of the day, and the lobster dish were exceptional! While we stayed at Casa Alistaire off the property, Rocky even made a special delivery of pastiches (local, homemade breakfast pastries) for breakfast. Friendly staff, great food, and a fabulous view. Definitely a hidden gem and worth the visit!

Arguably the most beautiful restaurant I've ever been to. A beachfront tropical oasis in the desert. Wahoo was a bit overcooked and dry. Unfortunately all 4 of us had the same entree, since wahoo and barracuda were the only fish on the menu Desserts were underwhelming. Just three cakes on the desert menu. Nothing special. You guys can do better. I would love to stay at this place one day though. It is breathtaking.

My fiancée and I were staying at the Aruba Ocean Villas (attached to The Old Man and The Sea), so we had to try their food at least once. I'm so glad that we did and I'm so glad they were able to get us a seat at the pier. It is a magical place to enjoy a romantic dinner by the sea. We really enjoyed the food, as well. My fiancée had "The Catch of the Day" wahoo and I had vegetable penne rigate. They were accommodating to my dietary restrictions and Ryan, our waiter, even gave me additional options that were not listed on the menu. The Catch of the Day came with an impressive assortment of fresh vegetables and risotto. The star of the show, however, was the service. We had the added bonus of being residents of the villas, but the staff really does go above and beyond to make everyone feel welcome and comfortable. Ryan, Rocky, Wendell, and Zaldy all made for an amazing experience.

Beautiful atmosphere with lush tropical plants surrounding you. Service was friendly and efficient. The food was the most expensive we found on the island and also the lowest quality. Fish was adequate but the risotto that came with it was complete mush and was mostly cheese and cream. Vegetables which was primarily onions were drowning in an oily mess. Penne with prawns was again drowning in over salted sauce that had no flavour other than cheap cheese like you would expect from Mac and Cheese. Server offered to make us something else but did not want anything else that came from that kitchen. They offered after dinner drinks as a gesture. To access the entrance you need to navigate a 1 foot deep massive puddle which can only be called a lagoon with only one small walking spit. While this is not on their property perhaps the gentleman who is sitting in a cabana at the entrance could help people navigate through this rather than just say hello when you arrive. So many other great places on the island to go. Maybe just go for a drink to see the beautiful surroundings.
