A group of women went to Don Yayo Chicharonerra for an early dinner/late lunch. The entire table ordered at , essentially, the same time. The food came out immediately for the first woman (who ordered chicarones,, the “house specialty”). She was happy with her food,...but surprised by the size of the “medium”, thinking that it was maybe a “smallish medium”. It turned out to be the right amount of food and she was pleased by the quiality and quantity. The two shrimp salads came out about 25 minutes later as did the fried chicken/fries and the chicken and gravy. Then the drinks came out, about 10 minutes later. A full hour later, everyone is finishing their orders, paying and packing up go to their respective homes. I have still not received my order. Three women commented on “how hard is it to make black bean soup”? It is now two weeks later....and I’m still waiting. The dinner was never served. I got to sit in this establishment, talk with my friends and watch them eat. I was never served the entree that i ordered, at the same time as others. The waiter was alerted, not only by me but also by a couple of the other ladies, that i hadn’t received my food. No explanation was ever given. I had not ordered anything special, made no requests for substitution, had just ordered off the menu. The other women seemed pleased with this restaurant. I guess it depends what you order or how the kitchen is functioning that day. Don’t get the black bean soup. Stay with the meats.More

You will get good typical Costa Rican food at reasonable prices.. The Casada was so filling I had to take most of it home for leftovers.

A local football/ soccer game started on TV and the...locals came to enjoy it. We ordered the small chicharonn bowl( it’s like deep fried pork crackling)it had tortillas and received beans too. You have to try to fried yucca too. It was very good. It had great atmosphere and the Waiter was very nice and friendly,He spoke some English too.it was a great place.More

We began our evening going to a different chicharrones restaurant, only to find out that it was closed. Our Uber driver recommended Don Yayo. We are glad he did! The fun in ordering our cocktails (we don't speak spanish) to actually getting them was an...adventure in itself. I think our waiter got a kick out of us!! We ordered both the soft and crispy chicharonnes and the crispy was the best, by far. After two plates - we were stuffed. The meal also came with yucca, plantains and jalapenos.More

Ate lunch and dinner at 7 other restaurants during our trip to Costa rica where the food was outstanding. The food at Don yayo was simply horrible. All the fried food was greasy, overfried and tasteless. My wife had ordered a pan seared fish fillet...which was completely overcooked and literally inedible.More

Food is okay, service was a little slow. Have been there a few times and service was on the slow side. Typical Costa Rican fare which first time was very good and so so next time. Varied clientele, many Costa Ricans so generally I would...think food is good. Could just have been a bad day. You have to pull out on a busy road to leave, there is usually someone there (that you should tip) directing traffic. If he is busy I believe it tobe a wee bit scary. Be careful!More
