Very nice neighborhood restaurant and bar. Now under the name "Tio's" we found good food, pleasant staff and very reasonable prices. Atmosphere is mountain relaxed but staff was attentive and dishes tasty.

Restaurant with a big space and also have parking place inside. Delicious food but touristic price. Service also not so good.

Great place for food - especially if you're a carnivore, enjoyed it immensely and reasonably priced. Location great, not far from downtown Atenas.

We attended this restaurant with friends, last week, who are staying near bye for a month. They had been once already and loved it. We share their high regards for the restauramt. Absolutely awesome food, best steak ever and our friend had the fish soup...(with milk) which was divine. The atmosphere is relaxed and well suited to anyone such as families, large groups of friends or a couple who wish to enjoy a great meal together. Highly recommend this restaurant.More

I reviewed this restaurant in 2015 and gave it a very high score. It was great. We have gone quite a few times since then and each trip has gotten a little worse. Yesterday, my opinion is that the beef is the same old thin,...tough local meat that you can get anywhere in Costa Rica (shockingly bad by USA standards). For the price (around $15) it was way overpriced and weird. The piece of steak (billed as a filet mignon) was a large, thin, pounded out "something" cut of meat and was drowned in mushroom gravy and a couple of strips of bacon that was darn near raw (although the cook on the steak was correct.) The gravy "bath" was not mentioned on the menu. The ladies in our party scraped off the gravy mess and ate the very very thin steak. Also on the platter was a grilled hot dog (?!?) a little bit of fresh salad (no dressing) and a very small baked potato, pre-dredged with the local sour cream known as natilla. Don't like sour cream? Want butter? Tough, I guess. The formerly smart and attentive waiter has been replaced by a kid that seemed well-meaning but clearly had a long way to go. Up on the wall, prominently, was a sign for a local craft brewery so I asked for one of their signature beers. Sorry. Out of stock. I guess that our first clue should have been that it was a Saturday night and we were the only customers in the place. "Word" apparently has gotten out to everyone but us. My recommendation is to look elsewhere. For the money, there are much better places around Atenas.More

We have friends who live in Atenas who took us to El Tronco. What a great restaurant!! If you are not a local, it would be difficult to find. It is off the beaten path in Atenas. The steak was honestly the best I have...ever had. We also had a side dish (think it was called Platanos) that was awesome. The prices are very reasonable (I believe I paid about 23 dollars for my steak dinner but the steak was huge). The dinner came with a potato, and salad. I just got back to the States but I am craving this restaurant and will definitely go back when returning to Costa Rica.More

We just went there for the first time. My father's wife, who is Costa Rican, recommended it. She said the beef was deliciosa. She was right. It was so tender. We had the lomo de Tronco, Very tender. Quite impressed.

My wife and I had a wonderful dinner here. Greeted like we were old friends even though this was our first time here. The open air restaurant was great with a nice breeze blowing through after a hot day. Had a nice cold Bavaria while...figuring what to order. My wife ordered the Filet and I had the Ribeye. Within 15 minutes we had perfectly cooked steaks with baked potato and a light salad. They were cooked just below medium and had a great flavor. My ribeye was huge and could only get through just over half of it. My wife's Filet was a good size as well and some went home with us as well. The check for the two of us was just over $40.00 and considering what we got I feel it was a great deal. Want to make it back for the ribs before we leave.More
