A fantastic cafe, with magnificent cakes and desserts and lovely friendly staff. They also do very nice filled focaccia and bagels which you can take away for an instant packed lunch - very tasty if a bit pricey. The light lunches also looked lovely, but sadly we did not get to sample. Lunchtimes themselves are very busy and you may need to wait for a table.

Despite being a many times visitor to the area we had never been here before and when I read the name of the location my instinct was that it would be small and busy and probably sell cakes and coffee. [Oddly, as a reviewer, I dont always read previous reviews!]
Anyhow we got here around 12, got an official car parking space and there were lots of tables inside. 15 minutes later it was mobbed and it was obvious why.
From the first contact to the last the service was impeccable, friendly and helpful. My wife who has a chilli allergy got a wee taste of the thai chicken soup to check out just how spicy it was and that was incredibly useful. But the "worst" was yet to come.
We opted for the combo deal and my goodness the plate wasn't really big enough to cope with it. Let alone our "seniors" appetite. Tea was served in a proper teapot. A proper BIG teapot and was enough to have lasted us all afternoon but for the fact that there was a queue and I felt bad hogging the table. Let me be quite clear - no one came checking to see if we were finished "to hurry us up", unlike some places weve been in. This is a busy but relaxed place to be and we could have sat all day. The cakes looked amazing but they too were gigantic.
So in summary if you're in the area get here early enough to get a space. You wont regret it. In fact as I am writing this review at 6am on the day after, I am thinking maybe today we could go back and manage coffee and cake this afternoon......?
This next bit is nothing to do with the location - as we sat in the window of the cafe I was looking out on to National Cycle route 7 and a road I had never explored. That is enough of a reason for me. After lunch we took a drive down it to Loch Insch - stunning views and thence to Ruthven Barracks. If you go slowly it will take around 30 minutes but entirely worth the detour.

We were advised of this little place by a friend and when we arrived most tables were taken. We were shown to a table and given menus. We ordered coffees, my wife had a fruit scone and I had the pastrami and Swiss cheese bagel. Both of these were extremely tasty. Coffees were very nice.
Plenty of fresh cakes to be had.
The walls were covered in art work by various local artists of whom the staff appeared to very knowledgeable. It turned out to be an expensive visit as my wife bought some artwork by a local lady, Miriam Smith. Check her out on line.
It's a handful miles off the A9 but worth the detour.

This used to be such a great cafe but now only good for tea/coffee and cakes (which are provided by KJ"s Bothy). Went for lunch and the soup was very obviously not home-made and no other hot food was available and the menu hasn't changed for months. We won't be back.

We were recommended this by someone who said “friendly doesn’t do it justice” and they were absolutely right! Had a real sense of community and a lovely atmosphere, on top of an amazing menu. We had the Thai chicken soup and smoked cheddar sandwich and the focaccia with prosciutto, basil and mozzarella and both were gorgeous. Wished we could have stayed longer to try the mini doughnuts with Nutella and a slice of homemade cheesecake or two for pudding… Special thanks to the lady who served us on her first day, who was calmly and cheerfully managing a large queue of hungry customers by the time we left. Definitely worth making a detour from the A9 to this one!

2024 visit to the old post office and it’s easy to see why the reviews are 5*.
Food is amazing, people are great, it’s very popular (for obvious reasons) so we were willing to wait 10 minutes for a table. The soups are off the scale good in particular. Can’t wait to get another chance to visit.

We were so looking forward to visiting this wee tearoom again after we enjoyed it so much last year. So disappointed with our visit today. You could taste the thickening in the Thai chicken soup, making it gloopy. Choice of 3 types of sandwich made with thin basic bread - could make better at home. Service not good - forgot about us to start with and we had to ask for a menu. Didn’t wait for coffee and cake. Won’t be back.

We stopped here for tea and cake during a run through the area. The staff were friendly and helpful, the tea room was beautifully decorated with amazing artwork, and the tea was top notch. Best of all, there were two vegan cakes on offer, and they were both amazing. One was a carrot cake tray bake, laden with nuts and fruit, and a fab lemon drizzle icing. The other was a luscious banana and cardamom cake with a sublime chocolate icing. We got a slice of each and shared them. We couldn't pick a favourite!

Nice cakes but very moderate portions. Per forkful about the most expensive cake ever had! One slice was very small so they knocked off 95p, it was still £4!
Coffee lovely. Closed the toilets half an hour before closing which was frustrating!

Thank you for your review.
We’re disappointed to hear you felt your cake wasn’t worth £4. ( not sure what homemade fresh cake you can buy for £4 these days but there you go.)
Were a tad surprised considering they are homemade, using only fresh ingredients homemade sponge, real fresh cream , fresh fruits etc. ( each cake is individually made by our very own cake maker which takes great skill care and attention). Ingredients are locally sourced and are really quite special. These skill are rare now and we feel very lucky to have such a talented person who is worth her weight in gold in our team. We’re also pleased you acknowledged that we recognised the last piece was smaller than our usual portion of cake and we reduced the price which we did explain to you prior to you ordering.
We’re also somewhat taken aback that you mentioned our toilets being closed.
We take our hygiene very seriously and due to an incredibly busy day and a continuing Covid threat in our local area we decided to close the toilets at 4:30pm to thoroughly deep clean and allow ourselves extra time to sanitise the entire area. This isn’t something we take lightly and I believe the member of our team mentioned this at the time. In fact most people would feel comforted to know that we are taking hygiene seriously and feel responsible for our customers wellbeing.

We were advised by a local to stop here for a coffee on the way to Loch Insh and ended up having lunch! As we caught a rare and warm May Day, we sat outside under the awning on a lovely terrace. The staff were all welcoming, knowledgable and relaxed, suggesting one of their specials of a deli-style sandwich. We opted for their Ciabatta and Thai green chicken soup, with tea for two. What arrived was delicious in its entirety. A deeply flavoursome soup with homemade bread and a fresh ciabatta of delicious ingredients, alongside a side salad worthy of its own listing. It was such a surprise treat and had we been in the area longer we'd have returned sooner.

Rude staff / owner who knows that they are currently sitting on a gold mine serving average food dressed up to gullible tourists who they know will unlikely ever be back. So no need to be pleasant.
Inadequate parking and indoors stuffy and hot.
£17 for a sandwich, a couple of salad leaves and a few crisps!!!!

The thing that stands out most about this lovely cafe is the superb hospitality offered by the family who run it; good old fashioned, friendly service which is sadly lacking in so many places. Time was carefully taken with each table of guests and nothing was too much trouble. We stopped for cake and drinks a couple of times in the few days we were in the area, which were superb. I was even accommodated with a vegan option which was a real treat as I usually have to miss out. It is quite pricey but for excellent homemade foods, lots of choice, and great service, it’s worth it!

Really wanted to try this place after reading the reviews and the fact the car park was full showed I wasn't the only one! Despite the queue for a table, the owner was really proactive and helpful in telling me there would only be a short wait for a table after he overheard me mentioning the queue to my husband on the phone. He was right, I didn't have to wait too long and they gave us menus in the interim. We ordered a salad to share there full of heritage tomatoes and delicious mozzarella & they gave us a great explanations of what was in it and of all the special, freshly baked cakes they had on offer. Fresh cream and berry cake was wonderful. We took them away with us for a picnic. Place seemed full of loyal locals who seem to love it which is always a good sign. Staff speak so passionately about their food and full of smiles the whole time despite being run off their feet. Must be some excellent leadership there. A really wonderful place to grab lunch or a snack if you're in the cairngorms area.

Trip in today while out in the road bike. Clearly reading my mind I get drinks in seconds before taking some time to pick a focaccia. The best focaccia on planet earth. Followed up by cake and tea - service as good as it gets, Great ‘vibe’ about the place as well. If only I was in Kincraig every day ….
