We went there twice. As the name suggests, the restaurant specializes in souvlaki.
First time, we went for organic pork and cretan rooster, both very good. We ordered two portions of fries and Greek salad and it would be nice if the wstaff advised that 2 portions of fries equals a bowl that would feed 4 as single meal only. We've seen other guests similarly astonished seeing their fries arriving ;)
Fries are very good, freshly made, not frozen.
Second time we wanted to try lamb and beef. Beef was juicy but unfortunately, lamb was a bit dry. Pita bread was tossed over grill for crispiness and mixed salad turned out to be a delicious mixture of salad and cabbage with olives, really refreshing.
Everything in good price, one orders souvalik by piece so you can try out them all, one of each kind in one 2-person seating.
You wait a bit for the bill but there is a lot of locals and the place is very busy so we did not mind. The bill comes along with some fruit and small bottle of raki.

I love this place. It's only open in the summer, and there's nothing quite like it. On a warm Mediterranean night, to be sitting in the square with the buzz of local chatter around you (no piped music!) and eating the best souvlaki in the area makes you feel glad to be alive. The whole experience always reminds me of the start of a panygyri (local Cretan music festival), before the band start playing.... I get the same feeling of relaxed excitement. Very, very popular with people from Rethymno and further afield.

friends from Rethymnon went to us. Hard to find if you are not from there but you are rewarded with the food. Simple but tasty. Choice of pork, chicken, veal, lamb and rooster souvlaki... The potatoes are a mountain, the grilled vegetables are perfect... and it's open because it's in a square that doesn't take cars and children can move around comfortably...

Unsure if this actually was the worst hospitality I had ever received in 30 years of visiting Greek Islands, I insisted that we return for a second visit just to be sure…and I was right! It truly is shocking. This owner only wants his friends around him, this is not a tourist-friendly restaurant. The waitress taking our order was shouted at to leave us and serve a local family instead. She was very apologetic but did what she was told. The waiters are barked at all night by a man who doesn’t acknowledge anyone who he doesn’t know whilst he bashes his fingers into his phone. I presumed he had some kitchen management app on there but fries came to our table as an afterthought / main course on both occasions so it couldn’t have been. Order was for bread, tzatziki and salad for starters with chicken and pork souvlaki with fries for main. After 10 minutes the souvlaki was left on the table and we had to pester for the rest when we were able to catch a waiters eye. Similar experience on the first night. Sitting the square with my family was nice. The food is ok and the price is great. Laugh at this review all you like big man , you’re in the wrong job and this lovely town could do so much better.

Great food and prices excellent!!! But on the other hand the staff was not very strong... This waitress with bottle hair was a bit sour and was too abstract reasonably is or was in love with someone? And he forgot a lot of things but I don't know what's in his head... So only the food is worth the other kids who are there!!!

We haven't eaten here for a few years, but we were in Atsipopoulo tonight and we were hungry.
The food, the wine, the location and the friendly hosts... all excellent.
The square (plateia) outside the church has a classic Mediterranean feel. If you're in the area in the summer season, this is a must do.

OMG! Our hosts brought us here for Sunday night dinner, and it was fabulous. Came back 3 days later, just as fab. Simple menu, delicious souvlakis. Out in the open in the middle of the church square, with local folk coming out for the evening sit and chat. Many, many swarming, cheeky kittens. They will climb onto the table if you let them. Recommend turning up after 8, as it gets buzzy around that time.visted July 2019.

Opens only in the evening. After many years I understood that here in Atzipopulo, in the little square, we have to adapt, and so I did. I called the day before and booked for 8 pm. If you do this, things go well and you enjoy the best Soufkaki in Rethimnon. If late, be prepared for long waits. However, I rate it very highly!

The owner is a GRUMPY man 🤬he doesn’t like tourist .
The Staff payed more attention to the people that were Greek .
The food was good but you have to wait a LOT for your food .
The prices were OK 👌.

Love the food and atmosphere! Grilled meats and amazing grilled calamari. The feta cheese on their Greek salad is some of the best you’ll eat. This is a real local place. Super friendly service. Enjoy dinner in a quaint Greek village. And please share a but with the cats.

One of the best places to eat at Rethymno, its not in the center so you need car to go there. We were lucky because we were living close.. Great souvlaki hand made, with nice salads and beer,,,

It takes at least 2 houres to eat here... We were with two little boys (you know children cannot seat so long), but madam who takes orders was very slow like sloth....
Souvlaki from beef was terrible.
Souvlaki from chicken, pork and lamb were good.
