It's all so easy, no stress over what to choose... no menu, just tell Manolis what you don't/can't eat, and what you'd like to drink. Out comes all the food to share, perfectly cooked from fresh local produce lovingly gathered and prepared by your host and his family. A warm welcome completes the treat. Just go, you won't be disappointed.

We loved every moment. The food is authentic, plentiful and so tasty. The small taverna is filled with local friends and family, and everyone is made to feel at home. Manolis and his wife welcome you and sit down to chat. Expect fresh curd cheese with bread, Greek salad, lamb meat balls, rabbit stew, hot fried potatoes and maybe a pork chop. Manolis grew up in the mountains to the south and knows how to find the best wild herbs and plants. We were treated to wild radish greens cooked to perfection. Just go.

Manoli's tavern is always a very pleasant surprise! You never order your food but Manolis and his wife Eleni always serve you whatever they have cooked for the day. If you need more of something you have tasted, they are always willing to provide you with extra portion. Vegetables are always fresh from Manoli's yard and meat is great!!! Apart from the above, they both are great people and it's always a pleasure to visit this place!!

Food made with great care, no worries about what to choose, daily dishes will be served in quantity with fresh ingredients picked by Manolis (ask him to know more about herbs and greens). Very cozy place with a great home-like atmosphere and great care for the table and hospitality. Thank you again Manolis and Eleni

Everything is fresh and cooked for you there and then. No menu just whatever is fresh - sitting in the little square - all very simple but with superb quality and infectious and friendly people. Could have happily eaten there every night!

We visited this lovely restaurant 3 times during our 11 day stay within walking distance of Manolis. The food was exceptional, all home cooked, some onsite. Lots of dishes eaten on small plates. We had Horta for the first time - so yummy. I must add the best soft feta cheese I’ve ever eaten in a Greek salad. The taste was divine. The home cooked chips were the best ever. The meat just fell off the bone and was so tender. We really enjoyed our meals here and would highly recommend. The only downside for me was the smoking just outside the front door under the canopy.

Really excellent taverna! As mentioned no menu but a huge variety of fresh food that just keeps coming ..just let them know what your happy with ..they even made my daughter whose vegan her own dish so even she had a feast .We loved it definitely worth a visit for an authentic Greek meal ..also the husband and wife who run the tavern are lovely and warm hearted giving my daughter some figs to take home ..thank you for a fab evening!

We are staying in a friend’s home 50 yards from this place- every night we have seen guests leaving as we step up the hill to our place and ask” how’s the food”- the answer is always the same”excellent, traditional Greek food”.
Such an understatement- Elena and her family provide a different meal every night- no need to ask - they keep bringing the food.
The best meal I have had in a week in Greece- the ambience is wonderful- small so you get to
speak with the other guests .
First rate!

We had a great meal at O Manolis. We never were presented with a menu, the food just kept coming, the server asking for our preferences. Great traditional meals, I agree with other reviews, the meat balls were excellent.

We visited this restaurant twice during our stay .... the food is all home cooked to ordered and is excellent local cuisine, it is situated in a quiet street of Atsipopoulo near the church. Would highly recommend

We were in for a late dinner at Manolis Taverna, and what a pleasant surprise, Manolis is very particular about the ingredients that makes up his excellent dishes.
Manolis signature meatballs are wellknown in most of Rethymno, but everything else we had was amazingly tasty and so well prepared.
I am not sure what made up the menu, because I never saw a menu card, but the servings we had was simply out of the ordinary.
We tasted Lamb in Lemon Sauce, Rabbit, Meatballs, Greek Salad, fries, and a nice tomato salsa.. everything was of high quality and it is eminent that Manolis takes pride in his cooking !
Surely a must if you love local Cretan cuisine !!!

We can only echo what others have written. We had no idea what to expect and it was wonderful, fresh plentiful home cooked food, Manoli is a really friendly host. Highly recommended

this is a must visit restaurant, Manoli forages all his garnishes and grows his own vegetables and is quite rightly the very proud owner of this establishment, there is no menu and Manoli brings out plates of food one after the other until you tell him you are full, then receive pudding. for 2 of us plus wine I was embarrassed when he only asked for 20 euros, needless to say he got a larger than normal tip.

This is the only restaurant that we returned to. Why? The owners were lovely, with Monolis serving as amiable host and his wife cooking one treasure after the other. The homemade style food was fresh, skilfully prepared and delicious! There is no menu; Manolis brought us one course after the other until we begged for mercy. At that point he brought us a complimentary dessert and a glass of raki. It felt like visiting family!!

That was the best dinner we had during the whole vacation. There is no menu, Manolo brings you the dishes to the table and you can say if you don‘ t like. But we loved everything!
