We dropped by there just to have beer after a long hike. We were quite astounded at the price 4.60€ as it was going to be the most expensive beer we'd had on the island. When I asked for a menu to check the price, the barman swiftly altered it to 4€. When I got a glimpse of the menu... More

We went here tonight on a Sunday evening at the end of a long walk. The restaurant had only locals eating and the menu was a bit restricted. We both had steak kebabs with chips and salad the quality was way above anything else we have eaten in the past 3 weeks. With 2 beers and a good bottle of... More

We found this place on the off chance and decided to stop for lunch. The food here was excellent and we had no complaints. We had the steak on the skewers cooked in the fire and it was excellent. Our host was very nice and friendly and was keen to test his English as much as possible. I've seen some... More

My wife use to go there in the childhood with her parents. The place was very dark and not so clean, it was only one person to serve and it took a loong time. Tomato soup was not bad but not brilliant. We asked for one "espetada" for both, it was only 5 small pieces of dry meat (~120gr). French... More

Lovely location at a superb viewpoint. We tucked ourselves away inside the cosy darkness of a room in which a wood fire was burning. The beer was a little on the expensive side but, there's only one other bar in this remote location so hey ho.

My wife and I ended up there after a wonderful walk from Ribeiro Frio-Portela. After a quick look at the menu, we got frightened by the prices and we only dared to order a soup. I think that was not only the most expensive soup I have ever had but also the most disgusting one: tap water with oil, stale... More

You cant visit Madeira without trying Espetada, a large skewer of biggish chunks of beef. Here you get in my opinion the best Espetada on the island. This is an authentic local bar / restaurant where the meat comes on the longest skewers you are likely to encounter anywhere. The meat is looked in the old authentic wood oven in... More

Our favourite Espetada Restaurant in Madeira, been visiting this restaurant for 25+ years! I know it is dark inside and the seats are benches and the owner doesn't speak much English but after going there for more than most it doesn't really matter one bit, as the Beef is mouth watering and the highest quality of any restaurant you will... Make sure to order the fillet beef espetada (skewer that's hung vertically above your table) and you won't get a better one on the islands. The authentic Madeirense tomato soup is totally scrumptious as well. And unless you're driving, do sample their anisette ponchas - truly a drink to die for. Very friendly yet discreet service - all in all... More

We ate here on a cold rainy night in March, having searched round in circles for it -- it is in Portela, not Santo da Serra, and it is NOT Restaurante Portela a Vista. Persevere! As far as we could gather, this is about as authentic as food gets in tourist-orientated Madeira -- this was confirmed by a Madeiran mountain... More
