We were staying at the Great Danes hotel and decided to walk into Hollingbourne to find a pub with food. What a great place we chose. The food was excellent. Really nicely presented. My brother had the steak suet pud. Wow the chunks of meat...in it!! My husband had the fish assortment in basket. I had the pate and garlic prawns. All delicious. Very friendly staff and gorgeous boxer dog. All in all an excellent village pub with a good assortment of ale and food.More
Absolutely loved it here! Great village pub. We were made to feel welcome by staff and locals. Food was absolutely brilliant and at such a good price, we even opted for dessert! Thank you, We hope to come back in the future.
Thank you vert much for the great review. We look forward to seeing you again. Kind regards Steve
Just moved into the village and thought I would treat myself to a pint and dinner. This is a genuine pub that has good beer and top quality food. Would recommend it if you are passing through. It is also dog friendly. Great place ,...great staff, great food try it.More
Hi Ian, Welcome to the Village, Thanks for the Five stars and the review. Regards Steve
We went as a group of seven on a Saturday whilst visitng the area. It was very quiet and I wondered if we had made the wrong choice. However as it turned out everything was excellent and reasonably priced. Well worth supporting this place if...you live nearbyMore
Called in for food as we were staying in the area. All meals were well presented and delicious. The veg selection provided on the roast dinner was plentiful and tasty. We thoroughly enjoy the food and drinks.
I love this place. Its a hidden gem. What a joy to find an authentic pub. Great staff and food. We will be back!
Living local we fancied a Sunday roast with our little girl. We’ve not tried the sugar loaves before but we will certainly be back! First thing to say is it’s great prices for lovely roast dinners. My husband had a burger and I had the...roast beef! They have lots of choice for the children too. Super friendly atmosphere with a really attentive waitress. Will definitely be back.More
Our first Sunday lunch here. Sunday lunch was delicious. Roast potatoes were crispy on the outside and soft inside. We all enjoyed our meals. Friendly staff. Will definitely return. Best roast we've had out for years.

A nice country pub with lovely reasonably priced pub food. The staff were very friendly and made us feel welcome. Dog friendly too with water bowls around and he got dog treats from behind the bar!
Thank you very much for the review
Found this lovely dog friendly pub on our travels, Was Made to feel welcome by locals and staff. Food was very flavoursome,I had the burger with bacon cheese and the most amazing onion rings,my friend had the fish and chips they even cooked the dog...a sausage. Would highly recommend this pub and would use again.More
What a gem! Other pubs in area won’t serve due to lazy staff. This place is great, cozy , good food. Highly recommended. Steve is the owner very nice!!
Lunch with my family on a Saturday afternoon - very friendly staff, great selection of hand pulled beers kept in good condition. Menu basic but excellent quality food. We had Lincolnshire sausages in a sandwich, Cajun chicken and bacon in a sandwich, a baked potato...with chilli and cheese, and cheesy chips. The food was quite slow to arrive, but obviously all cooked fresh so well worth the wait and much better than having precooked food reheated. The sandwiches were all delicious, the chips were lovely and crispy with a nice fluffy centre, you really could not ask for more. Also a lovely eclectic feel to the place, olde-worlde and homely with lots of little cosy nooks inside and a nice garden outside. Give it a try!More
On a freezinng cold day we were welcomed by a roaring open log fire and the sound of, what appeared to be locals/regulars, having a good time. Went for Sunday lunch and were more than happy. Nice big portions and lovely veg to accompany. Sticky...toffee pudding with custard to follow. Nice beers and wine too, at a really good proce. Service was excellent too. Will certainly be back!More
There are three pubs in Hollingbourne, each worthy in their own way. But while the Dirty Habit and The Windmill are effectively restaurants serving drinks, the Sugar Loaves is very much a pub serving food. A proper pub, in other words. Friendly, unfancy, with great...beer and an excellent, if limited, menu which will not break the bank. Six of us enjoyed a generous freshly cooked Sunday lunch in the very relaxing company of locals and their dogs and we will certainly be back.More
