Excellent restaurant!!!! We had a fantastic night. We had bruschetas, delicious, I had the jumbo shrimp that was spectacular and my husband rigatonni alla arrabiata, very good. I would highly recommend this as the best restaurnat in Puerto Viejo. Is is a bit pricey but...totally worth it. The owner very attentive.More

Costa Rica is a surprisingly expensive country, but even by Costa Rican standards this place is ridiculously over-priced. 2 x pizzas and 3 x pasta dishes with a bottle of wine and a few soft drinks = $300. Seriously!? We should have left when we...saw the prices on the menu but we had just driven from San Jose, it was late-ish and someone had recommended the place to us. Our mistake. But, there is something cynical about this sort of pricing; it seems to be that the prices are elevated to make people think they are getting something special, that they are themselves special because they can afford to eat in a place like this. The food is only good, not exceptional, and in Puerto Viejo the cost of putting some spaghetti and seafood on a plate does not warrant a $30 price tag. And the pizzas were certainly nothing more than average. So, we came away having a had quite good food and a decent bottle of wine, but feeling like we had been ripped off. The following night we went to El Refugio - two thirds of the price and in our group 100% were of the opinion that it was just better, regardless of price.More

Atmosphere was easily a 10/5. They managed to get us a table on a busy night with no reservation. It was beautiful, romantic, and the sea breeze felt amazing after a day in the sun. The owner came out and discussed specials and recommendations with...us, and they spent a lot of time working with my picky partner to find the perfect wine for him. Everything we had was amazing, from the seafood to the pasta to dessert and tailored specifically to our tastes based on our discussion with the owner. Definitely a can't miss for us when we're in CR.More

We have heard mixed opinions from this restaurant and that was our feeling: mixed. The place is very nicely decorated. Service is professional and nice. Quality is very uneven : I had a seafood pasta and was great, but my child had a pizza and...it truly looked like a frozen one! My wife and I could not believe it. The appetizer was nice -but honestly for an Italian cheese platter was not varied or amazing. In brief , we had a pleasant dinner. Some food was really good. But when you note the prices you are paying , it should be better.More

We started with a bruschetta del dia that include three separate, equally incredible toasts topped with cheeses, cured meats, and accompanying veg. Actually, prior to the bruschetta we were served complimentary vegetable soup, more a bisque that was lick-your-plate good. For our main, my wife...and I had pasta, her a prosciutto, cheese, and petit pois dish and me one with baby shrimp. For dessert we had profitteroles that were some of the best we've ever had. We also had two bottles of wine from the impressive, onsite wine cellar. Service, too, was outstanding and highly professional. We were given prompt and polite attention without being hounded or interrupted. The atmosphere is beautiful - the restaurant itself a design masterpiece and guests are able to watch from a distance the work in the kitchen. The restaurant is also set back from the main road in Playa Cocles (look for the Pecora Nera sign - "black sheep"), allowing for a peaceful and quiet meal with the sounds of birds chirping in the early evening. Parking was also super easy to find/locate onsite. All in all, this restaurant is world-class and if the Michelin reviewers visit Costa Rica, they should definitely make a trip to the Caribbean to try out this institution. Having eaten at some of the finest restaurants in Italy, Spain, New York, New Orleans, San Francisco, etc. this place stands along them, if not above, for the quality of its Italian food and wine. With that in mind, price is also comparable to what you might expect to pay in a fine restaurant on the east or west coast of the U.S. So what? It's totally worth every penny. If you choose to dine at one restaurant in Costa Rica, please go here.More

This was, by far, the best meal we had our entire trip in Costa Rica. The service is exceptional. The food is absolutely delicious. The ambiance is fantastic. And the wine is also good. The restaurant is a bit pricier than others, but with good...reason. It is fantastic! We try not to eat at places more than once when we travel because we want to try as much as possible, but this was such an excellent restaurant that we are going back tonight!!!More

I am from a town close to Livorno, birth city of the chef Ilario, and for two nights in a row I tasted the same flavors I grew up with. The service is awesome but the food is unbelievably good. The all experience is worth...every penny. Listen to Ilario suggestion and you won’t be wrong. Looking forward to go back.More

Best pasta in PV. A little pricey but make this your one big night out. It’s worth it. We also had a salad that was fresh and really good. Cocktails were excellent too. Very romantic atmosphere at night.

Do not come here ever! Price is over rated, service is totally wrong! Food was ok, but when you compare the prices and the service versus the experience, it goes wrong! Totally rude to even answer a wine question.
