This ancient and delightful pub is on our regular walking route, and has had various incarnations in the 30 years we have been walking past. This is the most successful for us. It is tucked away in the lanes between Sandhurst and Benenden. We popped in for an impromptu lunch on a Friday and it was packed,(probably best to book at popular times) we were very warmly welcomed and served an excellent lunch by efficient and cheerful staff. The menu a mixture of traditional pub fare but of a very high standard, and more adventurous dishes, all served on beautiful pottery. The wine list is small but with a good selection, in particular of wines by the glass at a reasonable price, the food also is good value for money. It remains, though, also a pub with good beers on tap.Today we just had a coffee sat by the woodburner and have booked for Valentines, an impressive looking menu for ÂŁ25 a head. The decor has been smartened up, the style is modern within an old building. Come for a coffee, a pint, lunch with friends or dinner for two. We recommend.

We ordered a takeout from The Woodcock Inn, Sunday roast, lamb, beef and turkey served on china plates, all were delicious, all with Yorkshire puddings, pigs in blankets and stuffing and the gravy was wonderful. We collected ours, all prepaid, you knock on the door and they place it on the outside table so no contact, but they will deliver/collect too. We will definitely be ordering again.

How do you arrange a small leaving do during lockdown? How about arranging for six people to sit in an orchard on a sunny June Sunday with fizz and hearty grub? That's what I concocted in a local Kentish orchard where I'm lucky enough to have a small plot close to the Woodcock Inn in Iden Green. The six participants selected their chosen meat and we arranged a collection time. When we arrived at the Inn, we'd brought our own crockery (each of the different households supplying their own), but it was simpler to use the Woodcock's own so we were duly handed a crate with six enormous dinner plates covered in silver foil, along with a separate crate with vegetables and gravy by the friendly staff. We drove the three minutes back to the orchard and took the foil off the plates - and wow, what portions! Nobody was going to go hungry... We carefully dished up the veg and gravy, and we all tucked in (something of a first, having a full roast lunch in the open air surrounded by nothing but apple trees and a Land Rover! A bit blustery, but nonetheless very pleasant. And importantly the food was ample and tasty, well prepared, nicely presented (it survived the journey!) and still hot (until the blustery conditions cooled it down a tad). Congratulations and thanks to the Woodcock for solving this leaving conundrum, and best of luck reopening on 4 July1

As locals, I experienced the lovely food at this pub last year one evening, delicious and fairly priced. Chose to return after lockdown for a long awaited catch up with a friend for lunch. Covid guidelines left a little to be desired. Food was quite limited and overly priced, however, what we had was nice. Icing on the cake, it appeared we had chosen the one pub in the area that was NOT participating in the 'help to eat scheme'! When questioning the waitress she advised 'we are not taking part this year'! Would I return, probably not given all the factors, having said that the food was nice but an expensive lunch.

This was a trip down memory lane as the Woodcock was my 'local' forty years ago. I have visited it on and off over the years as it was always a fabulous pub with welcoming staff, great food and fabulous beers. That was until a few years ago when I found that the new owner was slovenly, the food rank and there was no welcoming atmosphere. After that I didn't go near the place for several years. Apparently he just upped and left the pub in an awful state. In fact it was semi-derelict for 18 months. Without knowing about any changes I found the pub now had a website. And as all pubs change, on Monday 7th September 2020 I booked my wife and I in for lunch as I hoped that it may have changed for the better. Oh boy, had it changed? It certainly had. It was just like my old local. The staff were very cheery and helpful, the food was excellent, really delicious and the Harveys beer slipped down a treat. I was surprised to see the log fire alight as it was a warm day and was told that it was because of the smell of a log fire helped with the ambience and atmosphere, which I couldn't deny. Who doesn't love the smell of a real log fire? The new landlady has updated the decor, landscaped the garden and has plans to continue the improvements. For those who don't know the Woodcock, its a 17th century traditional pub hidden away in Iden Green, Benenden, Kent. It sits within the high weald of Kent and is in an area of outstanding natural beauty. There are many lovely walks to be had in the area. I really couldn't recommend this pub more highly. And in these troubled times the social distancing and hygiene were well thought out and excellent.

So hard to find the right place for Monday lunch - this was just perfect. The pub has been refreshed inside and outside whilst in lockdown. We had our meal in the garden which was beautiful and peaceful. A very good choice on the menu plus 2 specials on starters and main course. Tiger prawns with a pineapple rice and salad in a lovely garlic butter for me and my wife had a vegetarian wrap with roast peach and haloumi with red cabbage and pineapple slaw. Both meals were excellent but totally different. We always order different meals and share and we were so glad we did. We will be back

Scrumptious cream tea. A birthday treat for five and quite exceptional. Unfortunately I left the camera behind so just a description! We had Chapel Down Prosciutto, better than champagne, then a selection of sandwiches, fresh cream in beautiful scones, cream pastries, eclairs, meringues and so light we made a good job of consuming most of the tea! A large pot of real tea completed the treat. We couldn’t have asked for anything better. All set in the garden and bought out to us by Lydia, thank you. Very Highly recommended!

Came across by accident. Manager enthuses all the staff, all seemed happy and jolly, nothing was too much trouble. Sat us next to the real fire when other people left - somehow worked out my wife would like that. Had a beautiful dinner (despite this site saying they only do takeaway/delivery, don't believe it!) - the mushroom on bread with egg on top sounds like pub-food standard but it wasn't, it was divine. Also breakfast was very good. They allowed us to park overnight in our motorhome also for ÂŁ10 and were very helpful. Despite what you may read elsewhere IT IS NOT CLOSED! It was bought by a very smart experienced businesswoman 18 months ago and has been fully redone. Ignore old poor reviews. Heartily recommended.

This is the fourth time we have visited in the last two months. On every occasion received a lovely welcome from the owner and staff who could not be more friendly and helpful. Have been twice in the evening and twice for lunch, yesterday's Sunday roast lunch was a real highlight truly excellent and very generous portions all cooked to perfection., nothing was too much trouble for the staff who are clearly very happy working there, it all makes for a very enjoyable experience. 3rd visit in 10 days this time with Grandchildren. from the moment we arrived made to feel very welcome by all the staff who were a delight to engage with and clearly knew there stuff . excellent food lovely wines combined with friendly atmosphere made for a great evening.

This quaint pub has bags of character, a lovely open fire and a prestine seating area outside, dog friendly and lovely place to just sit and relax and soak up the beauty of the countryside. Highlights are the bar staff, the service is so attentive you would feel that you are in a 5 star hotel. The food also matches the service, locally sourced and cooked to perfection. I cannot recommend this pub enough, well worth a visit if you are in the area. Exceptionally Covid friends.

The Woodcock offers an excellent menu and superb quality and presentation of the food. The Sunday Lunch has a good choice of roasts supported with a wide choice of perfectly cooked vegetable, and the desserts - well very hard to make a choice. All delicious.! What particularly struck my wife and I was the friendliness and thoughtfulness of all the staff. My wife is partially disabled and staff made it so easy for us to park the car and then to access the garden behind. Thank you Woodcock for such an enjoyable visit. We will definitely be returning on many occasions, having found such a gem, close to Tenterden.

Wow! Thank you to The Woodcock for reminding us of how wonderful pubs are and making this outing the best yet! They are truly covering the bases for the safety of pubs being in action again! We (a party of 4) came on Sunday just gone, we had a table at 1pm the atmosphere in the restaurant, the food & the whole experience was a delight! My elderly parents haven't been out since lock down was lifted and they cannot wait to back. We where made welcome as soon as entering the pub by a lovely member of staff that asked if we could fill in the track and trace form - of course we obliged. Then after seeing (the more ripe) members of our party we were asked if we would be happier if we had our temperatures taken . This was a wonderful way of ensuring we and others are safe. The pub/resturant was so busy- how wonderful!- and the staff where brilliant at ensuring tables where all appropriately spaced. The food... Well all i can say is wow! The roasts are to die for! I couldn't do better (even if i don't want to admit that!) Thank you again to The Woodcock Inn! You are a true hidden gem!

Sunday roast was ok, (£18,95 beef) the menu outside of the roast was very limited. Its such a shame as the food was nice before the refit. Two of us was able to eat, two of us had to send our food back, we was very disappointed, we was not offered any alternative and it’s a shame that a manager did not bother to come over. Unfortunately it was a complete waste of £90.

We are so user friendly, Fast Food take away. A Sunday roast for six persons,Take away, GOSH the very idea. Yesterday as a treat our family could meet up. This Sunday roast Meal arrived. It was gorgeous, Yorkshire Puddings not frozen rubbish but the real thing. Each Roast had its own trimmings and gravy as a side dish to share. Very ample portions almost "doggy bag" China plates and cutlery in the outside sunshine.
