AKA The Flying squirrel restaurant I think this place has a better reputation than it deserves. It wasn't awful but for the money, I expect better. Even on a little, sparsely populated island like Cortes. The beer was cold. I'll give them that. While we...were waiting for too long, (the place had one other table eating before us so, it's not like the kitchen could have been overwhelmed with orders) I started whining to my wife. She said that the wait was probably a good thing because it meant they were taking the time to do everything right. Poutine with cheddar: They're doing all sorts of variations out there on poutine these days. Doesn't necessarily need to be curds. I'm no Quebecer purist. At least the portion was good but yeesh. Very little cheese, and the gravy was clearly of the instant variety. Gelatinous, clear brown, artificially enhanced flavor. Fish tacos: Maybe the worst the wife has ever had. Rubbery shells holding a meager amount of contents. The cod inside was good but the salmon was not. Louisiana chicken and prawns (jambalaya?): This is where I learned why it took so long for our dinner to come. They had to make certain that every possible bit of prawn essence was cooked right the #!@%? out of the three (count 'em) pathetic, undersized, partially peeled, freezer burned..... Ok.... maybe they weren't actually freezer burned. I don't know. It'd be impossible to figure that out once they'd been cooked that much. The chicken was.... present. It existed in the dish. The veggies and rice were the best part of it all but it's the meat that takes the price up to $25 a plate. Please treat the meat with a modicum of respect. Season the chicken before you grille it and put a bit of color on it. Serve fresh prawns (especially if one can actually see prawn traps out in the bay in front of where you're eating) that won't be confused for shrimp, and Google how to cook them. The server was capable. The cook (that day) needed some guidance.More

While staying in Cortes island we decided we should visit one of the limited choice of restaurants and the cove restaurant looked like a good choice. The menu looked okay, but limited. It did have beautiful views and sat on the water. However the food...was mostly basic and bland. The crab cakes were edible. The basmati rice bowl was probably the worst of the 4 dishes that we ordered. It included dry rice, god awful marinated tofu, raw veggies and some sort of deep fried topping. The seafood linguini had a heavy sauce that tasted like cream cheese, with some okay scallops and slightly undercooked shrimp. The tomato herb spaghetti was pretty much just oil, cherry tomatoes and a few pieces of basil. The whole meal left us feeling disappointed for such a lovely setting. The restaurant does have friendly staff, but however it isn’t worth eating at. We wouldn’t recommend it until they get a better chef.More

Menu is pretty standard and service can be hit or miss. Some dishes are great, others not so much. Wine is really inexpensive. Regardless, the friendly atmosphere, spectacular views and lack of much better nearby makes this a good place for lunch or dinner.

great atmosphere for this out of the way diner. It s not to fancy and fits the seaside vibe. Great burgers and light dinners.

It's a good place to gather up during the weekends. We watch all the boats coming in and out of this area from all over the world I think? 😁🤔. The Klahoose multi purpose building is nearing and can see the reserve from here

Great little resto, great view, lovely food, and great service! Three of us, and we will all come back. The burgers are great, and the seafood tacos top! Oh, good value as well!

My girlfriends and I stopped in for mid-afternoon desserts and were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food and how many choices were available. We shared buttermilk panna cotta, a raspberry/huckleberry pie, and a chocolate mousse cake. All were homemade, fresh, and decadent! Service...was friendly and accommodating. I would return for a meal.More

If you ever have the good fortune to visit Cortes Island, you will find a quality dining experience that rivals the best culinary experiences available in big cities. An unexpected gem literally, at the end of the road. The diverse and original menu incorporates locally...sourced seafood amongst more standard fare. A bit expensive but it costs a lot to get their ingredients, three ferries and all day from Vancouver. Highly recommended, one of the best lunch experiences in a long time. Bonus - a view into Desolation Sound. Wow. Only open in the summers because it relies almost entirely on the tourist trade. Cortes Island has a permanent population of only 950 and most of them are 'alternate' lifestylers so not much money to go around year round.More

We dropped in early (luckily...it fills up fast...make a reservation) and enjoyed a meal whilst looking out at the cove and all the boatie comings and goings. We chose the halibut and Thai chicken curry. Servings definitely on the small side and pricey but we...enjoyed the food. You might need a jacket sitting outside in the evening as the wind picks up. They open for a couple of hours at lunch and a couple more at dinner...too bad not in the afternoon for happy hour.More

Staying over on Quadra for a few days, my husband and I decided to explore the neighboring island and have a bite to eat. We were thrilled to find the Cove Restaurant. Right down on the water, with majestic views of the snow-capped mountains, we...enjoyed the peace of this small island. The Cortes Burgers and fries were delicious!More

The Cove restuarant in Squirrel Cove in Cortes Island has just opened for the season. We went on a sunny Sat and sat outside overlooking the ocean and spectacular mountains. The waiter was fantastic and so was the food. I had a pinto bean blue...corn enchilada with a beautiful garden salad. My dining partner had the lamb burger. We split a delicious Black Forest cheesecake for dessert. The food was amazing and it was a very enjoyable place for lunch. Don't miss it if you travel to Cortes Island. Also the gift shop is wonderful and The Flying Squirrel Takeout is very good also at the same location as well as a general store. Can't wait to try brunch!More

We were disappointed to find this restaurant 'Closed for the Season' on 17 Sept 2015 as we really looked forward to having lunch here while exploring Cortes Island. The restaurant is also up for sale if that means anything. The deck is open to the...water and has lovely views.More

View is great. Atmosphere with solo guitar music pleasant. Food was good but pricey. Yes we are on an island but I felt taken advantage of. As a result, we bought groceries and cook ed at a home for the rest of our stay.

Great little restaurant located in Squirrel Cove on Cortes Islands. We arrived via boat (Grady White) and found space at the public dock which is a short walk to the restaurant. At high tide the restaurant has a dingy dock right out front. Great front...deck has fabulous views to the south and East on to Lewis Channel and beyond. Our waiter was terrific, attentive, engaging and knowledgeable of the menu. Our dinner started with Shrimp Cakes and Prawn Fritters. The cakes popped and the fitters had a nice crunch and were served with an excellent chipotle mayo. For the main, melt in your mouth pork ribs. Finished with good as you can get deep dish Blackberry Pie. Pretty damn good meal.More
