Unexpected luck. We came to the Mondschein restaurant by chance. We weren't sure whether we would get a seat because of the many cars in the parking lot. A wedding party was celebrating. The manager of the house asked us to be patient for a minute and then accompanied us to a free table. We were advised and served from course to course with care, friendliness and professionalism. Modern implementation of traditional regional specialties at the highest level made each course a feast for the palate and the eyes. The time between courses was very entertaining, informative and interesting. The manager of the house prepared our taste buds for the next course with his explanations and comments, so we were able to identify aromas that we would not have tasted otherwise. Our eyes also had no rest. There was a lot to discover and marvel at in the architecture and design.

It was the Cav. Carletto Facco to take us to this Temple of Flavors, and to introduce us to the skills of the very nice owners, Paolo and Irene, with the careful collaboration of their children Stefano, Federico and Sofia.
The pleasure begins with the appetizers with the aperitif: the Tartlets with Fir-flavoured Cream Cheese were a unique experience! Followed by a cup of Beef and Soy Broth and then the Sauris Riserva Ham, with golden Champignons, absolutely exceptional.
As a first course, a black truffle tagliolini with egg cream: a fantastic solution that rewards the aromas of the tubers with the delicacy of the base and the soft and gentle cream.
The main dish: the Prussian Manzetta rib, presented raw to the customers, and then served on the plates, grilled to perfection: the aromas that enhance the meat, very tender and tasty, of great emotion. It was also possible to gnaw on the bone and appreciate all its quality. Subsequently, also two Lamb Chops, always grilled, tasty and capable of delicately releasing the peculiarities of this meat.
It seemed we had reached the maximum when the Elderberry Sorbet arrived, with a sprig of edible fir: a very pleasant surprise, not only digestive, but also very pleasant, in a unique composition of flavors worth trying.
At the end, a wonderful sponge cake with custard, absolutely appropriate for the occasion.
The choice of wines was also exceptional: a Franciacorta Uberti Francesco / Extra Brut for the starters, an unsurpassed Kerner "Praepositus" Abazia di Novacella Doc Sud Tirol and, finally, a Cabernet Sauvignon Oscar Sturm Doc Collio 2019 which he knew how to valorise well meat dishes.
Delightful setting, with a window overlooking the Dolomites: definitely worth a try!!!

One of the most amazing venues I have been in recent years. What a location, what a setting, What a Host! Not only was the food wonnderful delicious and of rare quality, the kindness of the host and his family are unparalelled. We "invaded" the beautiful place with a very young child and a Chihuahua, no problem, courtesy ruled. Mondschein and Sappada a worth a trip even from far away. I will for sure retrun to this gem tucked away in the Dolomites. Parking, Helicopter Landing, Golf and Skiing are part of the fun.

Beautiful place, but unhelpful and attentive staff. We went for an aperitif on our last evening in Sappada with a group of friends and at the time of payment I hand over the order with wine and tonic water from me and my wife and they ask me €74.50... to which I point out that They seem a little too many for what is indicated on the order. It is then confirmed to me that it is the bill for the table (3-4 different orders because they arrived in stages) and I then ask to split the bill. In response I am told that "eh should have been asked before", but why if I brought the order with two drinks and not all the orders left on the table? "Well why does the system work like this" they tell me, okay but I don't work here I don't know how the system works. I'll keep it short, you could have easily canceled the total bill and redone it divided by command, perhaps a few more taps on the screen and 30 seconds of work, but it could have been done and was done (also accusing me of having treated the person who was treating me badly in front of). In 2023, card payments divided among diners are normal, it's not like when you go out in a group you necessarily have to pay or offer one. However good food and drinks, I recommend the fried mushrooms... when they make them for you.

I went there for the first time and I found superlative cuisine with careful attention to detail and professional and competent dining room staff with a spontaneous gift of empathy. Price absolutely adequate for the quality of service and food. An experience not to be missed for foodies.

3 of us had dinner at the beginning of November 2023. We had never been there, and we were pleasantly surprised by the elegance of the location. The staff welcomed us with far too much reverence. Amazing appetizers, very elaborate, delicious. For first courses, a truly exceptional pumpkin risotto, but some truffle tagliolini without infamy or praise. Indeed, let's even say insufficient. Given the price, we definitely expected more.
The main problem, however, arose when ordering desserts. The waitress accidentally spilled my glass of wine on the table. We didn't get dirty, the waitress apologized, things happen. At the bar while the little girl was skiing: ordered 3 glasses of "house" merlot. Priced at €6 (SIX) each: even if accompanied by a small bowl of chips it didn't seem correct to us. Paid without a word and deleted the place from our addresses.

A model family business. Father and mother are the hosts, one son is the sommelier, the other son is the head chef in the kitchen. After last year's renovation and expansion, the restaurant has won again. We were in the new part, with lots of glass, but the authentic Sappadinian ambience was maintained.
A warm and cordial welcome. You can already feel the passion and enthusiasm here. Interesting interpretation of the region's traditional cuisine.
All the dishes were of a top standard. It would be presumptuous to single out dishes here, but the crudo (tartar) of beef and venison and the venison fillet must be mentioned. An excellent wine accompaniment was recommended to us.
We were completely convinced by the dessert that finished. Everything from the kitchen was top notch.
For us, going to Mondschein is like returning home to the family. An address that can only be recommended.

Starting from the assumption that being in the profession and looking for venues with high expectations, I hereby describe the evening having taken every detail into consideration.
The location and the position at the beginning of the slopes are excellent; the welcome was also excellent.
Now let's start with the first two notes of criticism:
1. Really bad to see the staff in elegant uniforms and then notice the sneakers on their feet;
2. I was offered an aperitif while waiting, subsequently served with chips which (hoping it was due to the wet bowl and not a recycling by another table) were moist.
After ordering there were no problems, however there was another shortcoming with the wine, when after ordering it the waiter brought us the bottle, showed it to the table without describing it and opened it away from us; vintage bottle consequently with residues on the bottom which were not filtered but decanted into the diners' glasses.
Another annoying thing that was repeated several times during the service from wine onwards was seeing boys being served before women and gentlemen.
Excellent food quality from starters to first courses; you can feel the quality of the raw materials and the work of the staff in the kitchen.
Another problem arose when, on the second bottle, after having pointed out the error in the previous one and since this too was another vintage label, I asked to decant the bottle and filter the product as it had not been brought to the basket and it was only filtered, what's more, so long after all the guests had finished their plate.

If I could give it a 10 I would!
The location is nothing short of astonishing, everything is well-kept, clean and tidy in a typical mountain atmosphere, but with a contemporary style, where you can feel perfectly at ease.
All the staff are trained, friendly, always available and never intrusive.
And finally the food...a marvel, excellent dishes, careful plating and a menu capable of satisfying the most demanding palates.
Not to forget the wine cellar, in addition to the variety of the proposal, each glass is told and explained, demonstrating preparation and passion for this work.
If you pass through Sappada you must stop here, even just for an aperitif, you will fall in love with it!

Recommendation a visit to the Baita Mondschein to anyone who wants to approach the ancient art of catering and not just "feed people". In this Baita Mondschein definitely makes school.
If instead you are looking for a culinary experience made of absolutely not obvious flavors, with a wine proposal expertly guided by dedicated staff, dishes correctly described and accompanied by tips for tasting, you are in the right place. It is a must-see.

Absolutely overwhelmed positively beyond expectations!
Wonderful welcome but above all sincerely friendly (handshake at the table by the owner) without falling into the obsequious formal but transmitting honest pleasantness to its guests.

After recommendations from some well to do friends, I decided to try Mondschein. From the outside, it seems to be a basic golf club house. Once inside it is nicer, but not pretentious. The waiter was professional and patient in explaining the dishes, though some descriptions were not exact. The sommelier was too persistent, but we reached an understanding and I had several wines by the glass. I started with the tartar plate which had several types. This was excellent in both flavor and quality. I then had the "porchetta", but in reality was slow cooked pork belly. Again, this was extremely good, but it is not considered porchetta by italian definitions. The prices are not prohibitively expensive, but one can easily drop 100 euros per person. Worth a return trip
