We dropped by on a warn August afternoon and treated ourselves to three flavours: Strawberry Rhubarb Sorbet, Caramel, and Date Square. All were absolutely delicious, and well-priced. Full marks for Growlers.
If you are fortunate enough to be on Fogo Island, Newfoundland, you must try Growlers Ice Cream. It is delicious! Don’t miss it.
This is some of the most delicious ice cream I have ever had. Located in Joe Batt's Arm. It is a must-stop ice cream shop. Limited number of flavours but the 3 we tried were heavenly. If I had more time on Fogo Island, I...would have gone back repeatedly.More
My god amazing ice cream here……must stop…..too bad we couldn’t bring all this home with us……hidden gem
We arrived a bit early as they don't open until 1:00 pm. We were able to purchase containers of ice-cream but not scooped until opening time. The ice-cream was well worth the wait and reasonably priced. The added bonus was the eco-friendliness of the place....Cardboard containers for the liters of ice-cream, wooden spoons and biodegradable cups for the scooped ice-cream. There were also sorbet choices for individuals who prefer. Very impressive!More
Delicious locally made ice cream! We had blueberry and partridgeberry jam tart and both were amazing! Good to see physical distancing practices in place--they limited the number of customers in the shop at a time, had decals,on the floor for physical distancing, and took credit card...for contactless payment. I highly recommend Growlers!More
I had the mint chocolate chip ice cream, it was absolutely fantastic! Everyone should go and grab a cone on a hot day!
Best ice cream I ever had! Homemade chocolate and strawberry rhubarb (Like a sorbet) was Devine! My son had the vanilla and loved it and my husband had the homemade ice cream sandwich and loved it also!
Our group of five fully enjoyed our visit - great ice cream flavours and options. Highly recommend this place to anyone
The title is true! If growlers is open and I’m on fogo island I go. My favourite combo is one scoop of jam jam on a scoop of custard. This visit I had one scoop of date square because the other two weren’t available in...scoops. They also sell by the tub but I don’t have enough self control around it! My mother had caramel and date square. She didn’t really like the caramel (I’ve never tasted personally). You’ll find the usual chocolate and vanilla with some NL flavours thrown it. It’s always creamy and delicious. I haven’t been disappointed yet. Photo is the partridgeberry tart from a few years ago. The waffle cones are very good, not sure why I didn’t have one that day.More
Oh my Growlers is pure bliss! Homemade icecream made onsite with unique flavours. We had Jamjam which is a type of Newfoundland cookie, crushed up and added to vanilla. The other was Partridge berry Tart, so delicious I didn't want to speak to anyone while...I was eating it. Just go. Do it. Eat it. Weep with the pleasure of it.More
We stopped in for coffee because other places were closed that day. So glad we did, as then we had to have some of the ice cream. It was remarkable ice cream...perhaps richer in cream and less sugary, whatever, it was wonderful.
Home-made ice cream, churned on the spot in front of you, is all too rare and Growler’s adds to Fogo Islands many charms with delicious creamy ice cream featuring local flavours such as the ubiquitous Partridge Berry. Good for kids and grown up kids masquerading...as responsible adults, the spot, too, on a hill overlooking Joe Batt’s Arm harbour and near Scoff’s restaurant with which it’s connected. Seating is outdoors or in and all that’s sold is ice cream, ice cream, ice cream. We loved it. I asked if the base for the berry ice cream was vanilla and the gelatoista said, “No, that would have vanilla bean, this is ice cream base.” It’s that authentic and devoted to pure flavours. A must visit on the island.More
Ice cream shop was a 'must' on our kids bucket list for Fogo Island. They saw the advertisement on the ferry over and they were obsessed with going after that. It's a beautiful little shop. So clean and fresh looking. The lady at the counter...was very kind and friendly. They do not have a large selection of ice cream but it is all homemade and tasted amazing. Some of the flavors are unique and were absolutely delicious. My kids had icecream sandwiches on homemade glazed donuts and homemade ginger cookies. Both amazing. My husband and I enjoyed 'Jam-Jam' and 'Patridgberry Jam tart' icecream cones. Met my kids *high* expectations and was a great treat for us all.More
