This was my second time visiting Makara and I must say, the service and food remains unparalleled! The atmosphere was charming and the food was some of the best I have had on the island - local but with a twist. I had the lobster...and others had the ribs, lamb, and shrimp dishes. All fresh and served with a smile! Our table was also visited by the owner, as were many others that night, who was kind, funny and knew plenty about the island - it added a special touch to the evening. Without hesitation, I would recommend anyone visiting Tobago to check out Makara!More

The atmosphere was lovely and the service was top-notch. We enjoyed a variety of fish and shrimp dishes, as well as the vegetarian lasagna.

I am a Trini living in Tobago. I don't really go to restaurants much but had a friend from London visiting (not her first time). It was her last night and we wanted to go somewhere nice and 'fancy'. We chose Makara as she had...never been there before and I had only been once. They seated us by the window as requested, it was 4 of us girls. Our waitress was excellent, super patient and ready to answer all our crazy questions and take our photos. Everything was served quite timely, not too soon, not too early. All our meals were beautiful and tasty, we all had the shrimp and fish options cooked to perfection and the wine selections are high quality. We will definitely be going back.More

People from Trinidad and Tobago are so friendly and welcoming, but unfortunately for some weird reason this doesn't translate into good costumer service, which can be a bit frustrating at times, and sometimes extremely frustrating. We arrived to the restaurant for dinner when it was...empty (only one more table was busy) and we told the waitress that we were starving as hadn't eating all day , we asked her to send us some bread while we waited for the 7 of us to go through the menus and decide what to order. One of my friends was so hungry was feeling sick, we explained this and the waitress just told us that it was restaurant policy that no bread was to be served before people made their orders.... what?? we asked again for the bread and they just said no! I am a vegan, there was a very interesting vegetarian dish on the menu and i asked i could have it without the cheese. She said no because it was pre-made, so i asked if there was something else i could have, she said no, and i asked if there is something the chef could make for me that was vegan (seeing the staples you can tell that something can be made as all the other restaurants i visited on my holiday did) she said no (without even asking the chef) - i had to be persistent and asked her to go to the kitchen to ask the chef and she came back to tell me that the chef could make the vegetarian dish i asked for first, but without the cheese!. It was such as simple task to ask the chef or to think what i could have given that we were basically the only business for the restaurant at that time. the food at the end was very tasty, but honestly it was our worse dining experience in Tobago due to staff that do not care about their clients and making them enjoy their time at the restaurant. i would not recommend this place, there are better places in terms of food and costumer service anyways so do not bother.More

Had lunch there with a large group. Nice view looking over Buccoo Bay, nice decor, very clean, soft romantic music, great food and wonderful waitress. Had to take some food home because we were too full. People in our group who had mixed drinks and...specialty drinks said they were good. Started to fill up with customers when we were almost finished eating. Highly recommend Makara for nice atmosphere, fine service and good food.More

I had dinner on a Sunday night and my party of 10 included adults and children, so preferred taste and style varied greatly. In addition, some of the adults had special dietary concerns re the amount and types of starch for example, but Makara was...able to satisfy all the varying requirements with ease. The servers were friendly, accommodating and responsive. A really good overall experience.More

We visited by taxi on a Sunday night, hoping to see some of the 'Sunday School' music and procession. We were given a good table in the restaurant, with a claimed 'sea view', but we could not see it since it was after dark! Anyway,...the food was all excellent. I started with the chef's homage to crab & dumplings, two Chinese-style dumplings with crab inside, and a tasty sauce. My wife had some tempura prawns, again with a sauce. The 'fish of the day' was mahi mahi, to be served either blackened or grilled. The waitress had the great idea that we could both have one piece of fish done in each style. The fish was wonderfully cooked, served with coo coo (maize cakes) and other vegetables. This was one of the best meals that we had while on Tobago. Sadly our return taxi journey was booked for 21.00 and the Sunday School steel-band players had not started to perform by this hour, despite the large crowd sitting waiting patiently on their seats outside. I expect it was good...More

Makara Restaurant was the best dining experience both my boyfriend and I have ever had in Tobago. ( And we’ve visited at least 10 times before). The food was absolutely marvelous! The pumpkin and sweet potato soup was to die for and the homemade garlic...bread just melted in our mouths. Our server Aveisha was a real darling. She was helpful, attentive and always maintained a pleasant disposition. We went on a Sunday night when there was Buccoo’s weekly “Sunday School” happening outside the restaurant, which added a lively musical atmosphere. Everything we had to eat and drink was tasty. Highly recommend it!More
