Stopped in just for a few drinks off the beaten path and this was the perfect spot for it..NY wiseguy attitude had no effect on Raul The Bartender and a couple locals who matched us joke for joke...if you're a master sarcaster, this is your kind of place..had our pics taken BEHIND the bar and left a signed $1 bill... An afternoon drive turned into a delightful surprise. We stopped at Charlies and had lunch. The food was quite good and the beer excellent. We had a nice long lunch (it wasn't crowded and no one was waiting) and enjoyed the ambiance. The bar was started in 1941 and people, petroleum workers and various others have left memorabilia on the... More

We have visited Aruba for 13 years and just visited Charlie's for the first time and we LOVED it!! The food was AMAZING and the bar itself was great. The staff was very friendly and made us feel welcome. We will visit next year when we head to baby beach!

Stopped in for a mid afternoon beer.. Wonderful old time bar. Good parking around the corner but not the best part of town.

We went with friends and ended up only having one drink because it took so long to find this place. It is really off the beaten path, and we stopped 3x to ask locals where it was, each time being misdirected and redirected, getting closer bit by bit. It was worth finding it eventually, because this place has history and... More

A little out of the way, but I guess that adds to the ambiance. Old school, eclectic, drinks not too expensive. Bet this place was hopping while the refinery was open. This is NOT a nice part of town. We were warned by locals several times to be very careful after dark.

We had lunch there today and it was NOT good and terribly overpriced. The steak sandwich was tough and the portion was not generous. The beer on tap was fine but not worth the price. The bar itself is interesting because of the memorabilia hanging from every spare inch but it's really not all that unique compared to places we... More

Charlie’s Bar & Restaurant was founded on September 18, 1941 by a Dutch couple, Charles and Marie Brouns. They chose their location in San Nicolas as it was close to the large Lago Refinery: this provided a steady stream of clientele in the form of seamen, contractors, and oil workers.Over the years, Charlie’s Bar became a destination returned to by countless friends from the past, accompanied by new patrons anxious to visit what has become an iconic island institution…”If you haven’t been to Charlie’s you don’t know Aruba!”Today, Charlie’s Bar is recognized as one of the Top Ten Bars in the Caribbean; and is a must see destination for first time visitors who will undoubtedly encounter and enjoy the company of many repeat clientele from literally all over the world. Everyone comes for the ambiance; the real connoisseurs are here to enjoy the intercontinental cuisine offered by Charlie’s Menu. Everything from jumbo shrimp to fine tenderloin steaks and fresh local seafood are at your beck and call. The menu is varied and prepared fresh each and every day try our “Honeymoon Sauce” with your entrée (if you like things real hot) or tone it down with our Creole style of preparation. Daily specials and home made snacks round out the menu for the inquisitive diner.Presently, your host, Charlito (the third generation Charlie) says, “Everything we do is focused on one thing, creating an unforgettable memory that will leave you wanting to return.”
