Limited menu, waiter impatient. Food was trying to be "fusion" but missed the point - I felt I had to explore a cheese battered fish, but it did not work. I complained and the waiter took it away, and 20 minutes later brought it back!...Great place to watch the kids playing football in the rain!More

We dropped in here for a quick drink, but had to wait a considerable amount of time. However, it’s a great place for people watching.

This state-owned restaurant is recommended more for its location than its food, which was neither bad nor great. Located in an old, restored mansion (the inner courtyard of which one can admire on the way to the restrooms), one can survey the activities on the...beautiful Plaza Vieja while the waiters look like a welcome throwback to times when waiting was a career. And a very good band provided entertainment, though I would have preferred less of international songs reworked (well done though that was) and more local music. But that's a matter of taste. The service was efficient, and merited the 10% service charge added to the bill. The food was okay. I had shredded beef, which was enjoyable; my wife had roasted pork, which she found a little oily. But for the price, it was good value.More

I had to double-check that I had visited the same place as the other reviewers - I verified it via the photos prior to writing this review. I simply don't get the criticism, as it seems that I ate at a completely different place. I...loved the live music - one of the gentlemen took time off playing to sing. The elderly man who plays the bass broke out in a dance on the patio - he was so cute I almost took him home. We were a party of seven and all of us enjoyed our food. They had a special that was around 7 or 8 CUC, which is the equivalent in U.S. dollars. We ate on the porch, so that we could see all of the folks on the Plaza Vieja. I highly recommend that you give Santo Angel a try if you are in Old Havana. I can't wait to return.More

This restaurant is located on a nice, busy square, Plaza Vieja, and has a very good live band playing Cuban music. But the food is average and the portions are very small. I have no idea about the prices because dinner was included as we...were on a guided tour.We had a mohito first, then soup, skewer with lobster and shrimps and a rice pudding-all of them rather tasteless. But the vivid Cuban music and the view of the square helped us have fun!More

We were here on Jan. 3rd 2018 looking for a decent spot to enjoy a nice lunch. Knowing from our prior experiences that only let us experience great cuban food even in tiny local spots, we did not expect this: In retrospect, no wonder that...the tarrace was almost empty. We were served immedately upon sitting down by a highly motivated waiter, maybe just coming out of a sales seminar. Before we could get a glimpse at the menue, he started hollering nonstop about their great offer 'includen fish, includen meat, includen salad, includen rice, includen mojito, includen beer, ...` including what not. His description made us expect a three course menu priced at 28 cuc.Since we were hungry after walking the whole morning, we found it reasonable and accepted this huge offerta, thinking we might be led to a salad bar or at least being served vast quantities of food. Well, then came a a dish of croquettes which was delivered to my step mom without a word, letting us wonder, if my dad and me would get the same one...Nope, the croquettes were meant to be for all of us, so why not put it in the center of the table then? Since we also had 'includen bread' we recieved a few loaves of bread and butter to combat our hunger during waiting time. Then came the main dish - we had all ordered the meat. Two tiny slices of pork had to make our day. Along with it, we got a few fibres of lettuce as deco and a tiny spoonful of white rice. Includen a whole lotta empty stomachs and rolling eyes. Needless to say that we did not order more than the drink offered in the menu, since we did not want to spent one penny more than necessary. That's why this was the only time on our trip we did not give any tips. Don't go there, not worth the time nor the money!More

This used to be a favorite of mine, but now it's just another government-owned, uninspired, poorly-run eatery. Only two assets are location and the live music. Location is even bad because the Old Square is now the haunt of the cruise ship crowds. Stay with...the paladars.More

We came to have a lunch here because we like old Square very much. The waitress cheated on us making us pay for an absurd amount for "the house offer". Grilled chicken or fish with a little bit of rice. He could not find a...menu with that price, therefore it was a lie. I do not recommend to eat in this place!!! The musicians were nice and the view is really enjoyable. It's a shame it is this restaurant occupying this great spot in Old Square.More

This restaurant was close to our hotel on the Plaza Viejo, and we were entranced by the music and by the fact that we had two hungry children not keen on walking. It was a mistake. The food - which was relatively expensive for Havana...- was not very good. It took a long time to arrive. And the restaurant seems to regard the surrounding flies as an added extra, rather than trying to do something about them (as other Havana restaurants do). But the band was exceptional. I cannot overemphasize this. The music alone almost made this worth a visit - maybe next time I'll just have a beer.More

A classic public restaurant in Havana. Bad service! The service was very slow and staff was not polite. Avoid to eat fish dishes. The shrimps was not fresh and their taste was awful. Low quality of dishes. You can enjoy the musicians in the square...not the food.More

We unfortunately didn't read reviews before coming here. We were tired and hungry so anything wold tasted good at this point or so I thought. The waiter acted like he was doing us a favor by waiting on us and ignored us most of the...time. We asked for bread after waiting an hour and they brought stale bread and actually charged us for it. Our meat kabobs took forever to come then when they did it was seafood by mistake so we had to wait again. We did have a weird shrimp appetizer that was swimming in weird smelly oil that was supposed to be garlic. The meat smelled funny and we knew something was up, was it rancid I don't know. Its was full of fat more than meat and we left feeling sick and hungry. Oh and beggars bothered us while we ate, that was a nice touch.More

Given the location, and the quality of of ther cafes and restaurants in the area, don't even stop. The location is tempting, but really, walk a few more steps till you get to La Vitriola and the other end of the square. This place is...a tourist trap, food awful and over priced, indifferent staff, lousy service and poor all round.More
