This is undoubtedly the best restaurant in Roseau. We loved it so much on our first visit that we came back two nights later. The chef is extremely talented and his dishes rival those I have eaten in top restaurants in major cities. The fresh ingredients and attention to detail were impressive. The staff is also extremely welcoming and professional. Some may say the prices are high but we found them reasonable for the quality and no higher than what we were charged at our hotel restaurant for barely edible food and incompetent service. We fell in love with Dominica and when we return, plan to eat almost exclusively at Lacou.

This was a fantastic meal. We had a special 5 course tasting menu not usually available to my knowledge but it represented their entire menu. Our server was great and the chef and team were generous with their time and talents and were able to adjust the menu for my wife on one course. Their ingredients are all locally sourced and fresh. This is a special restaurant on this island and it is worth seeking out. The goat ragu with pasta was excellent by the way.

Located in downstairs corner of a historic plantation owner’s city home near the waterfront of Roseau, this cozy, classic, charming and artistic atmosphere is matched with a creative menu and impeccable level of service not often found on Dominica. We came for lunch and everyone especially raved about the tuna mahi ceviche in a delicious lime sauce. With only a few tables, best to arrive right when they open at noon

The restaurant is located near the water in an alley and it is a fancy restaurant. Service was wonderful and the food matched the recommendations given by my AirBnb host. I had fried LionFish with its tender, white, flaky meat. It went very well with the sauce. My main course was a fish schinitznel and it was well prepared. Try the cocktails and the dessert. They make some wonderful desserts.

These folks have captured the optimal intesection of cost, sophistication and taste. Highly professional and very personable service, not inexpensive but by no means crazy, with practically perfect preparation of healthy and wonderfully palatable dinners (and insanely good desserts), all sourced locally on the island. This is our second year spending weeks in Dominica and eating at Lacou; their food is amongst the best I have ever eaten anywhere in the world. Don't let the unassuming entrance off the cobblestone alley fool you. This is a real gem.

During a 14 day holiday in Roseau we ate here 4 times. This was our food experience highlight of our holiday. We felt it was the best food in Roseau and the most expensive. But worth the cost. Every mouthful was delicious and made with care using local produce.
It is a popular and busy restaurant so you need to book in advance. We prefer to eat early and managed to book when we visited in person.
NB The building, Melrose House has historical interest and the courtyard is very pretty. Not easy to find - we had to ask for directions.

This restaurant would be able to compete for the top niche anywhere in the world based on originality, selection, preparation and staffing.
We arrived for a 7 pm seating. We were so well treated by the attentive hostess who brought the menu board in for us to decide. The chef/owner dropped by and chatted about his restaurant and the provided his thoughts on each dish …. Delightful man who is enthusiastic about his restaurant and the joy it brings.
We had the tuna based apps. Mains were the Mahi-Mahi, Pasta and Goat. 4 out of 7 in our party choose the slow cooked and braised goat with lighted smoke grilled breadfruit and carrots. YES, we shared and all agreed that was the way to approach this restaurant. Everything was fantastic. Excellent and reasonable wine selection.
If you have been to the Front Porch in Eleuthera, then you would understand how unforgettable and special Lacou is. Not to be missed. My apologies for not taking a picture of my meal.

We're down in our favorite part of the world enjoying restaurants we've not experienced before. Today was Lacou Melrose House and it is a very special find.
Service from Valena was great, she anticipates what you will need and delivers. Lunch today was from Chef Jesse Hoffman was spot on delicious. A simple babakanoush with killa tahini sauce and fabulous roti skin chips, some Tuna Tataki with pan-seared tuna, pickled papaya, and tamarind sauce. We followed these up with a Chipotle braised pork sandwich.
If you or someone you know is going to be in Roseau Dominica you must stop by and give it a taste, the flavors are amazing and I'm certain you will be delighted.

We had an absolutely lovely dinner at Lacou. Without question, Lacou served the best meal we’ve had in Dominica. Small restaurant just a short walk from the hotel. Our server, Roger, was friendly and attentive but not intrusive. My husband and I shared a large organic salad for our starter - it was fresh and tasty with a variety of greens, cucumbers, tomatoes, avocados, and topped with fried sesame strips. Delicious and just what we were craving.
We shared the risotto with Marlin Shnitzel which was ample for two, leaving us each enough room for dessert. A banana coffee cream pie for my hubby and carrot cake for me.
The meal was first class from beginning to end, and by far the best food we have had in Dominica.

We were in Dominica for scuba diving. 6 of us were on a quest to enjoy some local flavor. My wife found Lacou Melrose House on an internet search. The place is easy to find. It's on the same street as the Fresh market which is about 6 blocks from the Fort Young Hotel. They have a courtyard with tables for two. We were quickly seated and brought lots of water (tap water is good. I drank it all week) and rum punch. They menu is written on a large chalk board with appetizers and main courses. All the local suppliers are on another chalk board. I had a pumpkin soup sprinkled with sliced almonds and smoked chicken--really amazing. My other appetizer was Sam's sliced beef salad with eggplant made like humus. Again I was very pleased. They had a vegetarian pasta along with entrees with goat. There are 2 Canadian chefs that use locally made and grown ingredients. Everyone at our table was ecstatic about the flavors of their meals. We came here again next day for lunch and I was so happy with the braised pork sandwich I had. There are some other restaurants in Roseau, but this is the best!!

Best food and service in Roseau, possibly Dominica.
4 good friends each with a different entree and all 3 desserts to share. 2 bottles of wine. Coffee Martinis. All fantastic.
If you are tired of waiting for hours and getting poor service for marginal food in Diminica (the norm) you need a Lacou fix!

We loved Lacou! Everything was top-notch, from the service to the food. The Ceviche was terrific and the Tostones were some of the best we’ve ever had. I was a little apprehensive about ordering the goat steak, but it was really good. The wine list wasn’t extensive but they had a good selection. And the service was impeccable. The owner answered any questions we had about the menu and the bartender also came over to check on us. I loved the Espresso martini! Would definitely recommend Lacou; a lovely place for a romantic dinner!

I went to Lacou some 3 months ago, and it was amazing. Today, I revisited it, introducing a friend to that fine place. Well, i did not know it was possible - but it was even better. Clearly, being a new place they found their rhythm, way of working - and improved to the max. Food was simply amazing. no other word. All ingredients are local, but used in such fine way that it brought new life to the dishes. Ceviche were so good, we had to get extra order. Talent for unusual, often surprising blends of spices and flavours make everything tasting light and refined. A real treat - which is very hard to find in Dominica at such top level. Highly recommended. Not to forget the quick, prompt and super friendly service with both chefs finding time to blend with guests to explain dishes and chat.
It is so good it is worth a visit to Dominica, just to experience this. A rare gem being born in Roseau. Thank you, Lacou.

Excellent experience. We lucked out when we called for reservations on Valentine’s Day- they had a last minute cancellation and for us in. The food was so good. They had a set menu for the special day, everything was so flavorful. I had the Lacou Punch- it was one of the best cocktails I’ve had. I would highly recommend and hope we get a chance to eat here again before our trip ends!

The menu always changes as the chef uses the freshest ingredients sourced from the island. The interior has a clean contemporary feel and has been thoughtfully designed to take advantage of an enclosed courtyard. One of the owner’s provided relaxed but impeccable service. We are returning for another dinner before we leave. This restaurant should be your first choice in Roseau.
