I've been to San Juan quite a bit but am still a tourist. I probably would never have tried this restaurant until the COO of a respected local bank recommended it. Extremely cold Medalla beer, and fun burgers, onion rings and fries. That's it...no more complicated than that.

We stopped here after geocaching along the coastline for a well deserved burger and beer. Our local friend, Emma, said this is the burger specialty shop in Old San Juan. We parked in their lot north of the building for free in an otherwise difficult place to find a parking spot. We grabbed a table and it was quickly cleaned... More

This is one of my favorite stops when visiting Old San Juan on a limited budget. This burger joint is very unassuming but well worth it. Their burgers are home made and you can order a wide range of compliments such as blue cheese, cheddar or american cheese. They also have a wine marinated burger! The service is pretty quick... This spot has been here since my grandparents met.. back in the day. My mother used to come here as a kid and I haven't stopped eating here. They recently did a remodel on their floors and layout, but their burgers have never changed. I get the Swiss extra bacon with extra pickles and the sweet potato or "batata" fries... More

Well, the locals eat here so we thought why not? Maybe we're just too used to Westernized places, but it was gross. It was dirty and gross inside. No service. And the fries were disgusting. Burgers had thick meat patties which is honestly the best thing I can say about this place.

Ask any native Puerto Rican if they have eaten here and the answer is usually a resounding YES! Passed by this place a few time on visits to old San Juan. One day I decided to step in for a quick bite with the family. Simple menu that simply delicious. eat at one of the tables facing roadway and watch... More

Dirty? Crappy? Sure! I mean chipped paint, no air conditioning, fans that look like they were excavated, minimalist service, ahem; windows designed for a penitentiary, this shouldn't stop you- it's still the best hamburger around. It's worth the wait and what some may consider the indignity of going there. Of course across the street is the extraordinary view (breaking waves,... More

I've visited El Hamburger since forever! Don't expect a/c here. However, it is one of this traditional places that you have to go. I love the hamburgers and fries. Beer is always cold and always have a great lunch!

This local joint serves the best burger on the island. It is a quality, moist burger. The staff are friendly and hard working. It is definitely a favorite local spot. We went there 2 times while we were in San Juan.
