My wife and I happened to stumble upon this gem of a place while visiting Pigeon Island when a repeat customer waived us in. After entering beyond a steel gate in what looked like an old dungeon, you were suddenly transported inside this really cool...bar/small restaurant. Kinda like something you see in an old movie. But it gets even better. The chef, Didier, is from France and is a real pleasure to meet and just hang out with. And the food is five-star delicious (but super reasonably priced). He made my wife a special vegan dish which was outstanding. We liked it so much that we went there twice during our stay - which pretty much sums up how much we enjoyed hanging out there. Seek this place out and you will not be disappointed. (You might want to call just to make sure he will be opened when you are there as the hours are limited).More

We stumbled upon this gem on the search for a cold drink while exploring Pigeon Island. An apparent simple menu belies the gastronomic treats that await. Welcomed in by hosts Didier and Lisa, we decided to stay for lunch and ordered the 'catch of the...day', which included marlin and spotted lobster amongst others. What arrived (and very quickly) was almost too good to eat, beautifully presented meals with a selection of side dishes. The dishes were perfectly cooked and both mains and sides were delicious. All this at an extremely reasonable price, extremely good value for the quality of the food. Barnacles is found in what was the Captain's cellar of the Officer's Mess at Pigeon Island. As such, the walls are around 1m thick and serve to provide a comfortable escape from the heat of the day. It is naturally 'air conditioned' by a cooling breeze that transits from the sea side, through the bar area. Having enjoyed our visit so much, we returned a few days later, alas they weren't serving food as that time but Didier was kind enough to offer several alternate restaurant recommendations (all of which also turned out to be excellent), he even rang to make us a couple of reservations. I would have no hesitation in recommending Barnacles.More

In this time of Covid we are starting to appreciate more and more the type of establishment where we can feel relaxed, Barnacles does just that. We visited a few days ago and enjoyed a beautiful meal in quiet surroundings without the stressful feeling that...is associated with these times. Barnacles has more of a feeling of a country pub rather than the usual noisy bar type atmosphere that St Lucia normally has. My wife and I felt relaxed, confortable and safe. The food and service were excellent, the atmosphere perfect. Highly recommended.More

In spite of saying I'd never go I was persuaded by a friend to give Barnacles a try and I must say it was a pleasurable experience which encourages me to write a more positive review than my previous one. It is atmospheric, in a...cave like cellar with wonderful views. It's rustic but charming and patron/Chef Didier is a likeable and unusual character who can tell you much about the island. The menu is understandably limited but what there is, is good. I'd definitely go back when next in St. Lucia.More

This place is a must for any visitors to Rodney Bay and Gros Inlet. barnacles is in the basement of the old and historic British Officers Mess which sits just inside the entrance to Pigeon Island. Not only do you get to see inside this...historic building but they serve food and drink. surprisingly this place is not a tourist trap, it is run by Didier and Lisa and serves great food and drinks and the host are very friendly and make time to chat with the patrons. My wife and I had the crab curry which was absolutely fantastic and had a rather unique flavor, if you have this dish be prepared to get very messy but it’s worth it. It’s worth calling to make sure they are open plus if you go during the day it’s 10 dollars US to enter the park so plan to do the park and have lunch at Barnacles or go to park after 5 and it’s free entry.More

This little place on Pigeon Island is partly housed in old ruins restored. Drinks are very good and inexpensive as is the food. My wife had Curry Crabfor lunch. Delicious.

I'd love to write a review because I've been hoping to try this restaurant for quite a while but, in spite of making a reservation for 4 people several days ahead, when we turned up on Sunday 9th Feb. it was closed. I phoned the...owner and got the usual apologies and would probably have been content to leave it at that. However, I since learnt from two other parties that they had had the same experience. This restaurant needs to know that a reservation is not an option. It is a commitment!More
