About
As one approaches the 1729 House, the tan one across from Fort Christiansvaern Park, the Galangal sign, made from wine corks by a patron, is hardly visible from the street. Opening the aubergine door is almost magical as one steps inside an elegant white-table dinning room filled with original paintings and Indo-Colonial architectural elements. Sitting down at the cool, dry granite bar, one just knows their Martini is going to be ice cold and the red wine will be at 65 degrees. Galangal specializes in authentic modern Thai and French cuisine, combining traditional ingredients with international flavors and techniques. Freshness is the key to Galangal's bold flavors and consistent quality. Spices from Vietnam and Singapore, curry pastes from Bangkok and unusual Asian vegetables grown in Galangal's own gardens, give Galangal's dishes their unique authentic flavors. Even the soup is made a la minute. Little know fact, Galangal, probably has the best NY strip and pommes frites on island.

We have been coming to St. Croix for five years and finally decided to visit Galangal. It was an exceptional evening, marred only by the VERY high cost. Be prepared to break your budget on this one. Our bill, including a 20% tip was $192 for three people: two starters, 3 entrees and 3 glasses of wine, no dessert.
Once you've made the decision to spend the money, you'll delight in the food, in my opinion. My wife said the Vietnamese Spring Rolls were simply the best she's ever eaten. The Satay was good, but the peanut sauce, unlike all the rest of the meal, was bland and tasteless.
The curry is superb, the Pad Thai was excellent, and my Thai Basil and Beef was truly exceptional. The wait staff, unlike most places on the island, was attentive and pleasant, but not obtrusive. The ambiance is truly lovely. There is very limited parking on the street, so be prepared to drive around Christiansted looking.
Gulp at the cost, but delight in the food experience.

The food was AWESOME. But this gets gets only 4 of 5 for a couple reasons. We arrived a couple minutes prior to our reservation and there was no one to greet new diners. After a couple minutes a server asked us if we had a reservation; we told her yes and she said "wait a minute" and disappeared behind a divider and never returned. A few minutes later a different server came out and we did the same dance again. We just awkwardly stood there and didn't know what to do. Eventually we were seated. The other issue was that the desserts were VERY overpriced compared to other local restaurants and were very underwhelming. HOWEVER, the chicken curry was fantastic, the beef short ribs were fantastic, and the ambiance is very nice.

This restaurant was unbelievably good. We both had mahi, and I think it had been swimming in the ocean until a couple of hours before it was served to us (we found that to be true also of three other great restaurants in Christensted, Balter, Savant and Zion Modern Kitchen). The staff was so helpful, and the atmosphere so peaceful, it almost felt like a Zen experience. And the space is beautiful. Cannot recommend this restaurant enough.

I have been a customer at Galangal since it opened. But my experience last week there will be my last. Friends we met warned us that it took 20 minutes to get their cocktails. Thirty minutes after we ordered ours, they still had not come. The server kept wanting to know if we would like our appetizers--not until we have enjoyed our cocktails, we responded. She approached the bartender, who is one of the owners, then came back to say he was working on them. What we saw, however, was the owner talking to other customers at the bar. Finally, a good 45 minutes after we ordered our drinks, the bartender himself brought them. With no apology or explanation, he presented the tray with our very belated cocktails. We served ourselves from the tray. Galangal is not an inexpensive place to dine. Such cavalier treatment of customers is inexcusable.

We do remember the issue very well as you have demanded from our server free drinks for the (not disputed) late beverage service, otherwise you would place a negative review on TA.
I personally addressed the issue and told you in no uncertain terms that we do not appreciate your remarks about a negative TA review as it is nothing short of blackmail.

Our recent visit proved substandard in comparison to past experiences. Food and wait staff service were good for the most part, although a bit slow even for St.Croix standards. It did take unacceptably long to be served pre-dinner cocktails (in the 30 plus minute range). All in all, a bit disappointing, as this was our last dinner out with friends before their departure. We did voice our dissatisfaction with the drink service delay and were met with a bit of an attitude from the owners. Perhaps they were having a bad night. Unfortunately, what could have been a pleasant evening out with friends turned a little sour because of our dining choice. Too bad for all concerned. Saying these things on Trip Advisor aren’t an attempt to hurt business for the restaurant; it is simply an honest account and feedback. Maybe constructive criticism can lead to a more pleasant and efficient dining experience for someone.

Dinner at Galangal was a pleasant experience. Service and meal were very good but I felt that with the price of the drinks and appetizer the value wasn’t there. We have been to other higher end restaurants on the island and felt that we received a better meal for the cost.

We visited Galangal a few times last year and when we arrived this year, we were anxious to enjoy dinner there again. Our dinner tonight was exceptional! From the moment you enter the dining room until you leave, it feels like a very special experience. The decor is subdued, but elegant. Our waiter was right on point. He answered our questions and served us easily, even with a few special requests. Our drinks arrived quickly, though the straight up Manhattan was a bit different than what my husband was used to. The Vietnamese appetizer rolls were excellent along with the special Caprese salad. Our entrees of Pad Thai and two different curry dishes were all adjusted to the ‘hot’ level we requested and were delicious with enough for leftovers. We tried the homemade ice cream sampler for dessert. It was yummy and just enough. This is definitely a special restaurant. Though expensive, we feel it is worth the cost for excellent service and delicious food. We made reservations for next week and look forward to another wonderful dining experience at Galangal.

This restaurant was recommended by a local and did not disappoint. The service was excellent, the ambience very comfortable and unique (it is right next to the Fort and overlooks the bay). The food simply outstanding. Start with the seared tuna on seaweed salad or satay, then take your pick of a number of tasty entrees, my snapper was excellent, but my colleagues highly recommend the lamb chops, and finish with a 'quotro of gelato'. Wine list is very good too.

Overall the food was great. we had to send the snapper back to be cooked thoroughly. The server was terrible, no personality, never addressed our empty wine glasses. Actually she never showed up for the most part. She was our server about a year ago and was not good then and just horrible this time. Once we finished dinner, she stood at the bar and never stopped to see if we needed anything. The owner brought over the re-cooked snapper and we asked him for another round of drinks and well that never happened. So taking my mother out for her 78th birthday was just an ok experience. The food overall was amazing, the service was again sub-par.( we had the same server LY, and she has no personality, short and has a lack of customer service). I'll be honest here, she should be serving at a cracker barrel based on the lack of any attention. Honestly it will take a lot to make me go back to a place we loved so much.

This restaurant is at the top of its game, it's definitely "fine dining" in the true sense of the words, and it would be at home in any major city around the world. The fact that it's in Christiansted on St. Croix is a miracle. The menu is creative and interesting, and, while it has Asian offerings, it will be well-received by diners with more conventional tastes too. The owners on on the premises, assuring quality, and the ambiance reflects their personal knowledge...take a look at the carved door to the restroom! The waitstaff is most helpful. Just ask what the most popular dishes may be for repeat diners, and go from there. You won't be disappointed.

Very beautiful decor with thai wood carvings and a nearly secret entrance to the bathroom. No it's not secret it has such a decorative door that you would not immediately know it was the bathroom entrance. The food was very good. My kids, teenage gourmands, absolutely love the braised beef short ribs. They let me have just a few bites because it was absolutely delicious. The red curry was a bit spicy, but I have princess mouth. All the ingredients were tremendously fresh. All in all good food in a very romantic setting.

Like many of Christiansted’s fine restaurants, Galangal is small, well appointed, and inviting. The food is mainly Asian with a French flair.
I had the Satay for small bites and the Korean Holy Basil and Beef (A+ name) for the main.
Satay- The chicken was simply grilled with the peanut sauce to add flavor. The best Satays I’ve had grill the complex flavors into the meat and don’t rely on the sauce to do all the work. I think they can do better here.
Holy Basil & Beef- Good, even very good, but not top tier. The best Asian food has many complex and complimentary flavors. I didn’t taste that complexity here.
Overall, a very positive experience and enjoyable meal. I think with a small bit of push it could be one of the best in Christiansted.

We’ve dined at Galangal for the past three years numerous times. We were thrilled to see that the restaurant had reopened after its closing for Covid. We were seated at a great table in front of the window when we arrived for our reservation. Our waitress, Kaylee?, was pleasant and efficient. Other than waiting about fifteen to twenty minutes for our drinks to begin our meal, our service was excellent. We ordered the spring rolls for an appetizer, pad Thai heavy with vegetables and green curry for entrees, and the flourless chocolate cake for dessert. Everything was just delicious! This is a very special restaurant and we’re so glad to see that it survived and is still a wonderful dining experience. Definitely dine here if you’re on St Croix.

I do not understand where a restaurant comes off with charging $18 for a Martini and its in a small martini glass. Same with an on the rocks drink $16 and a false bottonmglass to make it look bigger. Also they charge $8 for flat water but dont tell you upfront.. I hope they do well gouging customers to the extreme.
Think about it $68 if you have 2 drinks apiece. Ridiculous. Actually the most expensive drinks Ive encountered on the island the last two months. Food is OK $28 for a curry bowl but over priced for the food content. On one dish what they advertised in the dish was missing. Service is poor. There are too many fair and good Restaurants on island. I cross this one off my list

We look forward to visiting this fine restaurant on our yearly trip to St Croix and this year’s visit was last night. From the moment we entered the door which was opened for us with a pleasant greeting until we left with the same treatment by the matre de saying ‘thank you and have a pleasant night,’ everything was wonderful. The ambiance is elegant, yet relaxed. We were seated at a sweet table for two in front of a front window where we could overlook the whole dining room. Our waitress, Theodora, was great. She checked on us often and we only had a bit of a wait to get our check. We ordered two appetizers which easily could have been shared - fried squid and spring rolls. Our meals, pad Thai and pork curry were wonderful. We even had enough to bring home lunch. We will be dining there again on this year’s trip and I’m already looking forward to it. If you’d like a special meal in a beautiful restaurant, try Galangal,
