What an amazing evening we had. Food, service and atmosphere was brilliant. We were made to feel really welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Lovely time had by all. All credit to Lee and his team. Thank you.

We met friends here today for Sunday lunch. The style and decoration is fabulous, perhaps a little quirky, big bold colours and wonderful glass mirrors, but it all works! Lee and his staff are extremely friendly, and there are few places locally where dogs are...More

This place has gone through some bad times over the last few years. Now in private ownership the transformation is outstanding both in terms of decor in and out, with great food and lovely staff. I am a regular visitor now and recommend you visit.

We booked the lion for a group of 15 of us. Lee and his team were extremely accommodating. We had a private room to ourselves which suited the children. The roast dinner was outstanding, great wine and a good selection of gins available. The decor...More

Situated in the heart of the beautiful Welsh border country is the untouched village of Berriew, winner of Wales's 'best kept village' award. The centrepiece of this village is The Lion Hotel, a charming hostelry in the traditional style. The Lion's long standing reputation for good food, superb accommodation and friendly welcoming service makes it well worth the short detour off the main Welshpool to Newtown road. The Seventeenth Century Inn owned and run by Jean, Brian and Lance Thomas and family has a warmth and character not easily found. The exposed beams and sections of original wattle and daub lend to the historic atmosphere. The luxuriously decorated rooms though in keeping with the hotel are well equipped with modern facilities.
