Foreigner not welcomed. Restaurant owner (middle aged man at reception) has issue with foreigners. Have been to this restaurant 2 times. First time in 2015 we have made reservations on phone in advance but when we arrived this man told us there’s no reservations for...us, and he want us to leave. Second time in 2019 we visited the town and then went to this restaurant directly without reservations, there were a lot of empty tables but this man told us there is no place for us. Both times he has shown clearly that he does not want us to visit his restaurant. This man and his restaurant has not changed at all and will never change.More

....fabulous view! With a location smack on the harbour and a few meters from the water, there is no excuse to try this out. Easy parking and the entrance is on the second floor. The seafood buffet includes shellfish, and a lot of healthy sides....Make sure to be seated outside, if the weather allows you. Price and quality definitely add up! Will be back to try the dinner menu.More

After the “reopening” of Denmark during the coronavirus, I wanted to make a reservation. Very rude answer on the telephone, he simply told us to be there on time and hanged up. Upon arrival we saw a crowd of guests rubbing shoulders surrounding the open...buffet. So much for social distancing, which apparently was unheard of at Jakob’s Fiskerestaurant. For that reason we did not want food from the buffet. We ordered Jakob’s Rødspætte, which was tasteless. The table itself was dirty. Cannot recommend this restaurant.More

We visited for lunch and had the fish buffet sitting outside in the May sun with a fine view to the harbor and Kattegat. Very good value for money. And very friendly service.

I have been to Jacobs Fiskerestaurant in the charming village of Sæby, Denmark several times in the last 20+ years. It has a very good reputation. I was their November 2019 and ordered Stjerneskud. I was very disappointed. Absolutely dreadful. The fish actually resembled some...sort of bacon. It was very dry salty and tough. There was way too much salad. This is nothing like what Ida Davidsen served to Jurij Gagarin in 1962. I hope Jacobs Fiskerestaurant returns to the original recipe.More

Jacobs was recommended to us by the owner of the hotel we are staying in and is also mentioned in the guidebooks as being one of the best restaurants in Sæby. Upon entering, there was no hostess- but a sign in English which said “Please...Wait To Be Seated”, we waited for several minutes and then they hastily led us to a table in the corner, threw the menus on the table and did not provide us with any explication of how the buffet worked. After waiting for several more minutes we tried to figure the buffet out on our own and decided to just leave. I normally NEVER write reviews but we really felt unwanted and unwelcome - it seemed having the sign in English was a way for them to easily spot the tourists and exclude them from eating in the restaurant.More

This is a great fish restaurant and very good value too. The buffet is 149 Kroner ( about £ 13/14 ) at lunch time.( I think it is 254kroner in the evening but might remember that slightly wrong, ) but you can also order from...the fish menu which my elderly mother did as it was too much for her to keep going up to the buffet. Lots and lots and lots of all kinds of fish, sild and crayfish and you can keep eating as much as you like, absolute heaven for a fish eater like me. There is even 2 fish soups if you want to start with that. It is all served with bread but you don't really need it. The restaurant is on the 1st floor so stairs but there is a lift at the back of the building. It has a wonderful view over the habour. We were there on a Sunday at lunch time in the hight of the Danish summer so had booked as it was very busy. Just wish I lived closer as I would come again and again and hope to be back next time I visits my Danish family in the summer.More

My family (a party of four including a very well-behaved three year old) and I were visiting Saeby as part of a cruise excursion. We are ethnically Malaysian-Chinese but are from Canada. We thought we’d pop in for a quick bite before our tour bus...was due to leave. Upon entering the restaurant, my son politely asked the waitress if they had availability for four. The waitress asked if we had a reservation, and we replied that we did not. Other families, who were from the local area, were entering the restaurant and being seated during this exchange. She said she would check if they had tables, and came back saying that the restaurant was full unless we had a prior reservation. We thanked her for her time and left. We found this odd as at least 70% of the restaurant was empty, and it was a fairly quiet day around the town. We decided to call the restaurant via the number on their website. A friendly-sounding lady answered the phone stating that they did in fact have tables immediately available for a party of four, much to our surprise. We thanked her for letting us know. Our guide thought this was unusual and decided to investigate the matter. Upon returning, he said that he tried to explain the situation to the owner but was met with veiled hostility and a denial of responsibility, stating that (paraphrased) he could not be expected to keep track of everything said by his staff. Our experience in Denmark so far has been nothing but wonderful and Danish people are among the friendliest in the world. We’ve made many good friends and acquaintances here. I’m sure that this experience was just an unlucky encounter with one unsavoury individual. However, given our experience with this particular restaurant, we recommend that tourists of East Asian (and perhaps other) ethnicities steer clear.More

It seems that there are two Jacobs there - one is a small one on the ground floor at the other end of the harbour and one on the Strandalle end where it is on the first floor. We tried the big sea-food buffet on...the first floor restaurant with a seating capacity of more than 200 people, and which was crowded and popular. The buffet - considering it was buffet - has pretty high quality and fresh food from soups to shrimps to lobsters to fish and much more. You can always find something to your taste and preference. Buffet price is worth it. Of course you ca also order la carte - but buffet gives better choice. Over all, very good and enjoyable social experience of eating in a crowded popular place.More
