Warning: Apple Fritters in High Demand

Mums is a small restaurant in Mindemoya, but the apple fritters are out of this world. Warning: you need to call in your order for your apple fritter order at 6am or you'll be out of luck. They only seem to make so many during the day and they seem to be sold out within the hour! If you are lucky enough to get your order of fritters fresh from the oven, they will melt in your month :) Save up your appetite - the fritters are huge!

Best apple fritters ever!

We had read reviews about these apple fritters so had to stop and try them. Turns out they were even better than we expected (and one of us doesn't even like apple fritters). They are gigantic (at least as big as a softball) and instead of having random hunks of apple throughout the dough, there is a tasty little crater of gooey apple filling at the very center. Prepare to hose yourself off after eating one, but totally worth the mess. Only weird thing was, by the time we arrived one morning we were told they only had six-packs left. Since we were travelling by motorcycle, we only wanted two but they refused to split the six-pack, even though they then repackaged the six into bags of two for easier transportation. Strange! We ate two on the spot, gave away two to another couple in the parking lot, and had the last two for breakfast the next morning and they tasted just as good the day after.

Fritter fantastic

My wife and I happened upon this little gem of a bakery on our way to our cottage rental. We started with a pie and some squares - delicious! A couple days later, we were told by a regular island visitor that the apple fritters are to die for, but sell out quickly so get your order in when they open at 6:00 a.m. We called ahead, placed our order, and were not disappointed with the fritters. In fact, they were the best apple fritters either of us have ever had. One fritter easily fed both of us, they are huge. We also bought another pie and squares. Everything was sooo fresh and tasty!

Baked items are all sweet desserts

It says bakery so when I went there early morning I was expecting some baked products for breakfast such as croissants or danish or bagels, but all I saw were sweet baked products such as pies and turnovers. I guess to have breakfast you have to sit down and order a breakfast meal. Just want to bring this out there so people won't expect baked products other than desserts. I ended getting the apple fritters because the reviews says they're great. I find the size too big and with the oil and sugar, couldn't finish one piece. Prize is $30 for half-a-dozen, but it's more like a dozen because it's than twice the size of Tim Horton's apple fritter.

We visited this restaurant over Canada long weekend. Food was ok. Service was mediocre. Had 2 burgers with salads (instead of fries) ,chicken wings and 1 orange juice. Was charged $58 before tip. When I questioned why I was charged full price for salads the cashier questioned me. Than made ex uses that the menu price is wrong. Really? Beware I'm ok with an error . But I'm not ok with me having to explain your menu and get attitude

Good breakfast, best value on the island

With so few restaurant options for breakfast on the island, I decided to try Mum's on my way to Providence Bay from Little Current. I was not disappointed. I found the volume of food provided was way too much but it was all very good. The coffee refills kept flowing. At under $10, this was the best breakfast I had on my vacation in terms of quantity and value. Service was fine.

Rude lady at counter

Normally like this place, food is good, lady at counter extremely rude. Yelled at us where to stand, yelled at people trying to come inside when there were already two people inside (you don't know unless you check). Desserts are known for being huge, so I got a box of six. She actively grabbed the small pieces which are essentially the big pieces cut in half. So I really got four for the price of six. Didn't notice til i got home and opened them. When we were leaving a group of people were walking away saying "well that was disappointing". I have to agree it was this time. Lady at counter needs to be a little more appreciative of her customers and less snappy.

This is a little gem. The food is excellent but make sure you’re hungry because the servings are very generous! Be sure to save some room for the home baked desserts. Warm welcoming staff adds to the delightful experience.

Mum’s is Yum!

My husband, our little son, and I came back to Manitoulin Island after falling in love with the place last summer. We loved the homey, tasty diner food we got from Mum’s last year but, as so often happens, we didn’t get there early enough to snag any of their famous apple fritters. This year, we went there for breakfast around 8:30am discovered that, due to COVID, they were only doing takeout, and instead had a lovely outdoor picnic breakfast at nearby Lake Mindemoya. The baked goods were massive, the apple fritters were bigger than my hand and chock full of apples, and the lemon cranberry muffins were delicious.

Very Rude

I called Mums for a take out order and walked in without a mask. It was an error and an honest mistake. The owner yelled at me very rudely and angrily...MASK GIRL...First of all I am a paying customer, the last time I went I did not have to wear a mask, this rule is all still new to people so kindness and calm reminders would have been appreciated, and to be called a girl was very disrespectful. Heard that the owner has been rude many times to others. My family and I will never go back.
