The location is a few blocks from the Cathedral in Centro in an area which has a lot of Chinese restaurants (surprise). Big room, great service, fun art work everywhere. Best part - The Food was excellent and the Margaritas were great. After 8 years we were not disappointed.

I see the reviews for this place and was very excited to have a lunch there... what a deception! The place is exquisite and exotic but the food is terrible. I asked for a salmon and received a fish that looks more like a tilapia or anything else. I like tilapia but I cannot be offered another fish if I... More

This beautiful building constructed in the early 1600's was a convent and more recently is now a restaurant. We ate here twice in the last two days (unusual for us) and will likely go again before leaving this area. I suggest taking time to walk around and absorb the interior decor and architecture before / after enjoying your scrumptious meal.

For a Saturday night it was pretty sparse. Other places we passed while walking there had lines out the door. The food is toned down for the tourist taste. Flavors seem to be suppressed. Good for those from the mid-west who don't like too much flavor or spice. Not really bland but "safe." The servers were cordial but nothing special... More

I read about this restaurant in one of my tourist books so we walked over from our hotel. The restaurant is dark - I had to use my cell phone flashlight to read the menu. My son had steak and I had prawns. We had a bottle of house wine. We followed it up with dessert. All were beautifully served.... More

A must try! What about having a couple of very affordable and very generously served margharitas (56 pesos) while waiting for your order in the beautifull surroundings of an ancient colonial convention? Hard to béat for a culinary start. Well it gets still better after... the Food is incredible for a fare that will very pleasantly surprise those coming from... More

The meal was very good Mexican food. We had to wait a long time for it to come but once it arrived it was very good. They could have brought our mango guacamole before the other food so we would not have had to wait so long and we would have been happier.

La Fonda de San Miguel Arcangel is one of the best options for travellers looking for quality food in an amazing setting in the historic city center of Guadalajara. Housed in the now-enclosed courtyard of a one-time convent, the restaurant has abundant natural light during the day. The building itself just oozes history and charm, and there's even rumors of... Beautiful traditional Mexican decor, the restaurant is situated in a beautiful courtyard with a water fountain and various Mexican traditional art. We ordered 2 rounds of tequila tasting (Don Julio vs. Herradura, reposado & blanco), chile en nogada (a dish traditionally eaten from July-September in celebration of Mexican Independence Day), and chicken in mole sauce (the mole sauce had just... This restaurant was in a lovely courtyard, with romantic ambiance, in spite of the ghost stories. It was fun hearing and reading about the interesting history of this former convent. The manager, Tita, and our server, Bernardo, gave special attention and took care of us very well. The Molcajete El Mar was good as well as the Pollo Amorizada. Very... More
