Yes, this place does appear to be full of visitors/tourists, BUT that doesn't mean that the food can't be good, and as it turns out,it's darn good! With five nights in Mexico City, this was our "starter" restaurant as it was near the hotel and seemed visitor-friendly, which it is. It was near our hotel and allowed us to get... More

Not far from the Insurgentes subway station this is a great place for local delicacies. They don't have a website so unfortunately booking may be tricky if you're not confident in Spanish. Plus it's closed on Sundays. I had to try the chicharrones in salsa verde but having snacked on the blue tortilla crisps and guacamole before dinner meant I... More

We had an excellent relleno dish with both picadillo and queso. Also, a good steak dish with guacamole. We had a good margarita, as well. The guys gave us excellent service and we had a tasty sampling of puddings for dessert.

This place is as authentic as it gets with Mexican food. It's a quick walk from the Angel of Independence in the Reforma Area of Mexico City. Doesn't look like much from the outside - it feels like you're walking into someone's home. And that's exactly when the hospitality and experience starts - the margaritas, authentic food and service is... More

I cannot imagine why this place is not #1 in Mexico City. Our group of 20 had to scramble to find a place to eat since the place we reserved messed up. We heard of Fonda and walked in. With no reservation they seated us and started the best food ever. Our group had about everything on the menu. They... More

This is an excellent Mexican restaurant with dishes for the adventurous palate. They have all kinds of food. Traditional plates like tacos, enchiladas, mole, chiles rellenos, etc., but also various kinds of fish, meat dishes, even gusanos (worms)! Super margaritas too! Appetizers are also great. The service was excellent, especially for our large table. I would love to go back... More

The food was awesome and plentiful. The margaritas (which I really never like elsewhere) were excellent and I had to have another! We had three kids with us and they were very happy. The chips and tortillas and salsa were delicious. Thank you for the memories!

We had a great dinner here. We're a bit adventurous, so we ordered the gusamos de maguey (caterpillars) and the escamoles (ant pupae) and they were both delicious. We also got a tasting of four mezcals, which were also great. The service was very pleasant too.

This little place was just around the corner from our hotel. It was really charming. A small room with maybe 10 tables or so. Very attentive staff. The menu had several vegetarian items to choose from which made it get extra points from us as it is not always easy to find vegetarian food in Mexico. Our meal was very... More

This was pleasant surprise. They actually have guisano (worms - I know, right?!?) tacos which we've wanted to try; not pretty but damn tasty! I had the fish veracruzano (?) and my other half had the chicken mole. The fish was very good. The mole was excellent. Definitely worth a visit. They have ant tacos too BTW!

Description
Traditional Mexican Cuisine since 1954. Everything is made artisanally. We cook all our dishes in clay pots. We prepare our moles from scratch. Cook our own tortilla dough using the ancient nixtamalization process and then grinding the corn in our own volcanic rock mill. We grind & stuff our own sausage, hanging it & letting it cure for a whole week before it can be used. All our desserts are made also in either copper or clay pots. Be sure to ask for a tour of the kitchen so you can witness this first hand and also take a lesson on how to make tortillas and our world famous margaritas.
