We had eaten here several times before and looked forward to another meal. We have only had breakfast here, but it was wonderful every time. The enchiladas with red or green sauce are highly recommended! The Cafe au Late is killer. You choose how much of that black coffee to go with the hot milk. YUM! They have their own... More

We came early for lunch on a Sunday, around 2, and only waited about ten minutes for a table. They still have garlic soup on the menu, a personal favorite that has been slowly getting harder to find in Mexico City. My bistec charro was also great with a just right mix of flavors between the steak, beans, cheese, and... More

The place is at the downtown of Mexico City, is great for having breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food is nice and delicious... and cheap as well. The location is great, just two blocks from the Zócalo of Mexico City. The only one thing to improve is the speed of the service.

Classic cafe just round the corner from the zocalo. Thanks to its popularity it has now extended nextdoor, but the queues keep forming on the pavement... Simple menu with plenty of choice with quite a few dishes for vegetarians too. Do be adventurous and try the nopales stuffed with cheese in tomato sauce, they are delicious. Or go for breakfast... Recommended by a local. We ate well and enjoyed our meal. We heard no English and enjoyed not being in a "tourist trap." I'm not sure of the word for "local diner" is in Spanish but this place is that with an extra bit of flavor.

We signed up on the waiting list for a table at the main restaurant, but then we noticed that next door (still Cafe Popular) had a table - quick and effecient service, great food and only locals. A top meal for us!

We Went in for lunch based on good Reviews here on Tripadvisor. I was deeply dissappointed though. HOwever, I must add that it was very full in the lower part of the restaurant and we instead chose to go upstairs which seems to be like a simpler part of this restaurant. I had tamales that were Cold and very compact... More

I have been using this restaurant for years now and have to say it is still good quality, not expensive, tasty food. Try their sweet buns and other pastries, they are delicious! Cafe con leche (coffee with milk) is super and menu del dia is a deal. Get their chicken soup if you don't know what to get because you... More

It was the only restaurant open so early in the neighbourhood and we actually really enjoyed it. It was the only time during my whole stay in Mexico that I had impression of eating a real mexican food. Coffee with fat milk that brought back childhood memories, good eggs with a very tasty sauce and amazing pastries. All for a... More
