El Cardenal is a very traditional restaurant in Mexico, it's food is just delicious, cooked the traditional way with very high quality ingredients and amazing service! If you are in town during the Chiles en Nogada season, this restaurant is an absolute must!

If you are in the downtown and want to try real Mexican food, El Cardenal is one of the best options. Prices are average, but their kitchen is excellent! Just be patience because you will have probably wait for about 30 minutes as must of the times is crowded.

This is an traditional restaurant inside a beautiful old building. The food is amazing at all times but I recommend that you go there for breakfast. Lots of options to chose from but most dishes are prepared with local ingredients. Try the Omelette de Huazontles and the hot chocolate. Be there EARLY, no later than 9:30AM unless you want to... Amazing food and service. We went for breakfast. It was open when we arrived at 8 and they were already serving other customers. I had the zucchini flower omelette and my girlfriend had the eggs with ricotta and refried beans. Both were delicious. Checkout my Instagram @jamesdimitri for photos.

I visited El Cardenal with friends in November 2016 -- four months ago. And to this day, me and my friends look back on our dinner meal at El Cardenal with reverent fondness. This was one of the best meals of my life, and wildly exceeded all of our expectations. In every way, the restaurant is fantastic. It's near Zocalo... More

In El Cardenal, you will have most of the Mexican food at it's finest. Everything here is sophisticated and the service is very premium. A must try !

The food was excellent, the food arrived quickly even though we were 10 people having lunch there. I definitely recommend it! Ps: watch out for the spicy foods. I tired "pollo con mole verde" and it was quite spicy :))

We had a great breakfast with my family and aunt. For starters we had sweet bread with the "conchas, and cuernitos" that had a complimentary "nata". For main courses we had chicharron con salsa verde, huevos con frijoles, enchiladas de carnitas. All the dishes were served fast and with great taste, also the service was really good. I would definitely... More
