Extremely popular with the locals - especially for breakfast - this traditional restaurant has a wonderful 'jungle' ambiance. Service is friendly, and the Mexican food is about as authentic as you can get in Playa del Carmen. The prices are pretty good too for the...area.More

Placed my order with the waiter, and never got my food. He apparently didn’t wrote it down. After we had a whole conversation on how excited I was that they had my favorite (Mole) available. I didn’t realize until everyone had received their meal. As...a result, my food never came out, and I left the restaurant without having been served. The lack of attentiveness and basic customer service was incredibly disappointing and left me feeling frustrated It is crucial for a restaurant to ensure that all customers are attended to promptly and receive the service they deserve. In this case, the failure to take my order reflects poorly on the restaurant's efficiency and overall dining experience. I hope that this Restaurant takes this feedback constructively and works towards improving their customer service standards to prevent similar incidents in the future. As a customer, I expect better treatment when dining out, and unfortunately, this experience fell short of my expectations.More

We were looking forward to visiting but left very disappointed. The setting is very nice but the food was a total let down. We ordered various tacos between our family of 4 and they were the most basic, bland tacos we have ever had. They...all consisted of a tortilla, a dab of refried beans and then whatever filling we chose. No colour, no flavour. Such a let down as reviews suggested it should be good. The food at the buffet at our hotel is so much better which really says somethingMore

I really can't recommend this place enough. I'd come after already eating a meal at another great restaurant one that I'd never heard of. I'd actually been planning to go here but ran into that other place and just had to check it out. Anyways...not wanting whatever was left of an appetite to go to waste I decided to check out this restaurant. I'm glad I did. Inside it's like nothing I've ever seen atmospherically speaking. Just so amazing and creative and nature incorporating. I couldn't really think of anything more than what they've done here. Service wise, it was a little bit touch and go language barrier speakingly and that seems to be a theme in my Mayan Riviera travels that even though it's a lot of English speaking tourists, it's really not like the locals all know English or anything like that. Still they try and do whatever they can to help which is really cool. After some back and forth on what my dessert options was were since I was there before dinner the server went to the back and wrote down a big list of the ones that were going to be available to me. I had these crepe things that were super sweet and really were so damn good I could have ordered a hundred of those. I had my first local beer one that wasn't the big names one that I desperately wanted to try since it's really hard to find local beer like I do easily here in British Columbia. So my only disappointment is that I wasn't hungrier and couldn't really any order anymore than I did. Definitely a place I'll come back to if I come back to the area.More

Neat restaurant, they really have ambiance in the bag. The vibe is very cool and the setting was wonderful, this is the best part of the experience. We were a group of 3 and ordered appetizers, dinner mains and desserts. Appetizers were okay; decent guacamole,...an excellent salad, and a tuna taco. The mains were more of a problem. We ordered the enchiladas which were swimming in mole sauce, the chicken breast which was cooked perfectly but was also invisible under its large dose of mole and the fish which was a rather flavourless piece of whitefish, disappointing mere steps from the ocean. The desserts and coffee were the best part of the meal. Was fairly overpriced for the quality of the food, $2100 (p) without tip. Again the setting is awesome, so maybe lunch or breakfast would be a better choice. It is a touristy location and most restaurants in the same vicinity were pricey. I wouldn't say miss it but I also can't 100% recommend based on what we ordered.More

One of the most disgusting places I’ve ever been to as someone’s who travel to 48 countries and counting this food was horrible! OVERPRICED!!!! White washed by tourists . DO NOT I REPEAT do not fall for this trap!! Shrimp tacos in a tortilla almost...30$ !!! You can find better of the street . Drinks barely had less than an ounce of alcohol. I’m so disappointed they’re overcharging for the trees and ambience . Trust me when I tell you I’ve done my travels this will forever go down in history as one of THE WORST RESTAURANT in the world .More

Amazing!!!! My husband and I very randomly found this spot our second day into our trip and I am still thinking about it a week later. These are the best chilaquiles I have ever had and as a Mexican that grew up on my mom’s...cooking, I am a very harsh critic when it comes to Mexican food. This place also happened to give us the best coffee we had our entire trip which was very unexpected! There was also someone walking around with complimentary? concha’s which were an amazing side to my coffee. The waitresses were constantly checking in on us and we felt very welcomed. Would love to come back on my next trip to Playa del Carmen!More

What can I say. This is hands down our favorite restaurant in Playa. Been coming here for 20 years, every trip to Playa is made better by eating at Cueva del Chango. We have been there for breakfast twice, lunch once, dinner once. Love the...staff, love the menu, love the atmosphere. So good. We found our new must have menu item, the chicken breast with poblano mole sauce, served with nopal cactus, onion, coriander, tomato. Wow, just the best flavor and the chicken is so tender. We specifically chose our airbnb to be close walking distance to this restaurant. This area around Calle 38 Norte is our favorite part of town and La Cueva del Chango is the best.More

Cool atmosphere, open air with stone patio and many plants, kind of a rambling jungle layout with a very small pond in the middle with fish and turtles. We went there twice while in Playa, had the shrimp coconut soup as an app, it was...excellent. Fish tacos, nopalas salad were also very tasty. Staff was very friendly, had some fun conversations with them.More
