We came for an upscale steak supper given the prices and the reviews. First of all, the atmosphere is far more pub like than fine dining. However, that’s okay, after all, we were there for the food. Atmosphere has never been that important to me, as long as it is clean. We all ordered the filet mignon. They use an excellent cut of meat and it is very tender. However, I don’t think they season it at all. It is just a tender cooked piece of meat. They rely on their sauce for the flavour, I guess. Anyway we tried 3 sauces. The peppercorn was fine but not extremely flavourful. The mushroom sauce was excellent. The bernaise was oily and separated. Not at all appetizing. When we complained later (yes we should have complained when we saw it but we didn’t). It took getting the bill to get the courage to complain. Anyway they told us that is normal for a bernaise. Unfortunately that is not, at least the places we generally go. The roasted potatoes also needed seasoning. Lastly, two steaks that were supposed to be cooked medium well came out medium and medium rare. We did get a discount which was good and probably the only reason they get an average rating. They started with a great cut of meat but the result was uninspired. We have eaten at many steak places across the country and this doesn’t measure up for the price point, Banff prices notwithstanding. Interesting note, lots of local youngsters in the place. They seem to like the pub food. Our server was really good until we complained and then tried to debate with us as did the manager who was also very young and asked us what we wanted.

We visited on a Saturday during happy hour (3-6 pm daily). At 4:30, they were not that busy so we were able to chose our seat (window near the bar). Our server was pretty good about checking in with us since we chose to have a couple rounds of drinks before ordering dinner. We enjoyed the music which was accompanied with the related music video on a number of the TVs. For dinner, we shared nachos with sliced prime rib ($19 + $4 for prime rib = $23). It was a very large serving, and we couldn’t quite eat all of it. We thought drinks and nachos were a good value compared to other Banff restaurants.

We had breakfast here every day we stayed in Banff as the breakfast menu was far larger and more reasonable than our hotel menu. The food and portions were great (excellent hot chocolate) and the staff were incredibly friendly, so we kept coming back. It's no the cheapest, but seems average for Banff, which is more expensive than say Vancouver.

We visit Banff many times a year and we wanted to try Melissa’s Missteak as we had heard a lot about it. They had just moved to a new location on Banff Ave.
I don’t think they have decided what to be. A high end restaurant with great food or a bar with live music. Dining on a Friday night we had to listen to the band do a sound check for 20 minutes which doesn’t fit a high end steak house.
The bar is in the center and the place is quite wide open with no ambiance for a couple expecting a higher end experience.
Service was great for a bar but way below average for a high end restaurant.
Food is pricey but well done and delicious. They were out of lobster due to supply issues which we both wanted, but chose alternative dinners and were pleased.
They will need to figure this out. If you want to be a bar with live music you need a bar menu. The current menu is completely at odds with the bar ambiance and bar service.
The breakfast was great the next day but we won’t likely return until they figure out what they want to be. Spending $175 for great food in a bar atmosphere doesn’t work.
Great service and ambiance will overcome mediocre food but great food will never overcome poor service and poor ambiance.
Many other great places in Banff to spend $175 with much better service and ambiance

We had never been to this place before, would highly recommend. I had an omelet and my sister had the classic eggs benny, eggs were cooked perfectly. The fruit bowl was amazing and they accommodated our request for an apple to go. The waitress was very polite and asked us if we would like our coffees refilled. I will be going back and also giving them a try for supper.

We had dinner to celebrate our Anniversary and were underwhelmed. We order prime rib roast which was delicious and prepared perfectly as medium rare. But the prime rib bone meal was a disappointment. For $36, I was expecting a meal size portion. What arrived we’re bones with most of the meat carved off!
Service was mediocre to terrible. Maybe our Server was over worked? We dined based on wanting an Alberta beef dinner but will definitely not be coming back. There are other options which is what I would recommend.

Chicken sandwich was dry although the bun was good and fries were good. The “ light meal” was a small salad and soup; however, they charge $5 extra if you get French onion soup which they neglected to tell us. Service was good other than that.

I went to Melissa’s Missteak with my husband and colleague for dinner on a Monday night since we heard it is a Banff landmark restaurant. My husband’s bison filet mignon was $52 plus an extra $9 for a small side of sauté mushrooms. His mignon was less than the size of a hockey puck. My colleague and I each ordered 8 oz prime rib for $42 each. Our prime rib was more than one third fat and gristle and was difficult to cut. The vegetables sides were just a few chunks of steamed carrots and cauliflower. The beer I ordered with this expensive dinner was served in a bottle with no glass. Overall, the food and beverage experience were poor.
I agreed with previous reviewers that this restaurant seems to have an identity crisis. The prices and focus on CAB and AAA Alberta beef suggest it wants to be a classy steak house. However, the pool tables, multiple TVs, trivia nights, and DJs suggest it wants to be a sports bar or hang out bar for 20-year-olds. I would not recommend this place for a good dinner. Next time, we will go to one of the Keg restaurants in Banff as they would at least offer better value and atmosphere.

Strolling down Banff Avenue searching for a place to brunch. Haven’t done any research or recommendations, just looking which place would pop. My, oh my! The name of the restaurant is notable, was seated right away and whisked to Ms. Brooke’s area. Service was quick and efficient, and the wonderful surprise of it all was the amazing egg benny I ordered. I even consumed 2! I regret we leave that day otherwise, I would be coming back for more.

Fab ‘dive-bar’ style pub / restaurant, we went here for a quick spot of lunch, our waitress was very friendly, made sure we had everything we needed and bought our drinks along really quick. I ordered the Beef Dip sandwich which was delicious, the French loaf was light and fluffy so it could absorb the flavoursome dip, the Alberta beef was succulent and so thinly sliced it just melted in the mouth, plus the fries were some of the best we’ve had! My fiancé had the Buttermilk Pancakes with Strip Bacon and Maple Syrup, as well as a side of Poutine…They were HUGE! Each pancake was the size of a dinner plate but so light and airy, they were the best pancakes he’s ever had, we ended up having to take half away with us though as they were so big and the Poutine was SO good, with a really thick gravy and perfectly melted cheese curds. Definitely a great place to go if you want a tasty, filling meal.

Fantastic breakfast / brunch and mimosas! We ate here multiple times on vacation in September and found the service, food, and drinks to be amongst the best in Banff! Our waiter, Craig, was definitely a highlight of each visit - He was attentive, polite, and very generous with local advice for things to do & see during our time in Banff. The other waitstaff and hostess were similarly delightful and resourceful. Overall, Melissa's was a reliable delight for dining in Banff - no long wait times, no need for reservations, locally owned, and no doubts about the quality of the food (especially the "Big Breakfast"). 10/10, strongly recommend!

America, my waitress is one of the most attentive and professional waitresses I’ve had the pleasure of being served by in a long, long time.
The steak was cooked to perfection and the deep dish apple pie and ice cream was the icing on the ‘steak’.
Suitable for families, couples, solo and groups of friends.

Ate dinner here during our recent trip to Banff for our wedding anniversary. Food was good & service was excellent. Restaurant was pretty quiet for a Saturday night, however we did arrive @ 8:00 pm - first available reservation. We left prior to the live music starting so it may have gotten busier.

I was told by a friend the steak was really good and it was a must go to spot in Banff. I have to report that at $52 the steak was sub par for what I expect based on the price, the plain vegetables were luke warm and the overall plating felt elementary and like I was at a gas station restaurant. The service was also mediocre with our drinks coming after our meals came out. Overall we were very let down by the whole experience.

Ordered 3 separate steaks same size and same cooked to Medium rare. 3 different levels of cooked, one more like well done.
Served carrots diced…
Pickled cauliflower…
Pepper corn sauce poor like jelly not good.
Having visited this restaurant in 2003 we were very disappointed of the change. Will not be coming back.
