Our story begins in Ireland. Located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, St. James's Gate, established in 1996, was built and manufactured in Dublin, Ireland. The authenticity of the imported Irish woodwork and fantastic artifacts make St. James Gate one of the premier Irish pubs in the world. The Gate has a warm friendly atmosphere that makes you feel instantly at home. Rub shoulders with local residents and tourists from around the world. The bartenders are friendly and prepare the drinks with care and consideration and the staff proves just what a capable & fun group of servers is worth. It's everything an Irish Pub should be.

Best pub food in Banff. Potchos are unreal. Shepard’s pie is the best Shepard’s pie I’ve ever had and love that I can get a pint of magners. My only complaint is that they could have more of a selection of Irish beer but love...that they have smithwicks, harp and magners on tap :) cheersMore

Super friendly staff. The food was great and so were the drinks. We loved the atmosphere and they have booths perfect for social distancing. We were here every day of our visit to Banff. Relaxing and enjoyable.

Authentic pub. Seemed a bit short staffed, but the wait didn't bother us. Yummy poutine and good drinks !

This is our favorite pub in Banff by far. At this visit, it was myself and an adult daughter and we both enjoyed the atmosphere, the friendly staff and the meals we ordered. I've gotta say the steak and guinness pie is tempting me to...make another visit really soon.More

This was a nice Irish pub. Due to covid, they were out of Irish beer but the local beer on tap was a fine substitute. We had the Beef Dip and the Chicken, Bacon and Leek Pie. The food was very good as was the...service. We would return.More

We had dinner at the pub last week. It was after a long day of travelling and hiking. I expected average food and tired service but was pleasantly surprised: it was the opposite! Everyone enjoyed their quality well-priced meals very much. I was most surprised...by the staff, who were courteous and friendly. I expected impatient pandemic-fatigued workers but the ladies were amazing.More

This is not a place that I would write up for being fine dining but it certainly manages and exceeds expectations. I have been her a number of times now and it certainly deserves a review. My wife always gets the fish and chips which...has always been good... batter not to pancake like and definitely crispy. I normally would get a burger and fries in a pub but this place has some good eats. I asked the server which I should have between the lamb stew and Guiness Beef Pie and she recommended the pie.... the puff pastry was good but not one hndred percent cooked.... not enough to raise a stink though...a nd the pie fillings were steaming hot, hearty and delicious. The onion rings were well prepared and the mussels starter had a very nice hot garlicky broth that was sopped up by the texas toast. The beer selection is excellent although they didnt have Smithwicks that day,...supply issues which are understandable during the current pandemic... but they DID have Sierra Nevada Pale Ale which I would recommend to anyone who likes pale ales. Service was prompt, efficient, pleasant and the place was comfortable and clean once again. We will return regularlyMore

I like Irish stew and have eaten it in many places before. I would give 4 out of 5 to this place for Irish stew. The portions were big, however they should probably buy a younger meat for this meal
