I was ecstatic when I discovered Katsuten... I ordered twice in July 2021 when it was still called Katsuten and I was so happy to find this place because the pork katsu was the best in calgary in my opinion. But then recently I went...there and discovered the restaurant is now called Ki Sushi (haven't tried the sushi) but I tried to order the limited katsu options (they have a new menu too) and the pork katsu looks completely different! Less "fluffy" and less crispy? The curry tasted different and more generic as well. 😭 Did they change owners? I'm not trying to say bad things about the new ownership and Ki Sushi, but I am just really sad because the pork katsu was the best and AMAZING before :(More

We have eaten in and enjoyed the food (see my previous review) but were uncertain about ordering takeout, as fried food doesn't often travel well. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the katsu arrived just as flaky and non-greasy as if we were receiving...it straight out of the kitchen. Still a great value meal. We found the pork cutlet more tasty than the prawns. The dumplings were crisp and not overly doughy. We are happy to support a local business during the pandemic.More

Very small restaurant that probably can’t accommodate more than 20 people total. We were the first patrons on a Sunday for lunch and restaurant got quite busy right away and it was close to being full at 12:45 PM. The shrimp dumplings were amazing and...the creamy udon as well. I am not the biggest Katsu fan but I found the cheese one to be super chewy and bland. Not something I would recommend. Extremely fast and attentive service.More

This place reminded us of our travels in Japan. The food was all fantastic. We had the crispy shrimp dumplings, and then the assorted Katsu dish which came with Cheese, Pork, and Shrimp Katsu, as well as the Ebi Don. The Katsu was crispy and...flavourful without being greasy. Service was friendly and attentive. Glad we tried this place!More

The Udon with tofu was simple and had a clear broth that was very favourable with the right amount of noodle. All dishes looked fantastic and we will return. The service was fast and courteous.

If you are looking for the authentic Katsu experience without going all the way to Japan. Head on over to Katsuten. Although, I'd recommend you make a reservation before heading over (especially on the weekend). Made a reservation and headed over to Katsuten on a...Saturday evening. From the moment we walked in we were immediately greeted and our table was ready. The hosts/servers were both (yes there were only two) very friendly and very quick with anything we asked for. We ordered up our drinks and then decided on dinner. Note, if you are not wanting Katsu, you should probably go somewhere else. Katsuten is a Katsu place. I decided to go with the Curry Katsu, and my wife went with the Chicken. We had decided to go with the crispy gyoza as well. Oh. very nicely done without being greasy. Very well done. Our meals came out quickly and were piping hot. The light batter on the katsu was flavourful without being greasy, and was perfectly done. My wife's chicken katsu was golden brown and juicy/tender chicken on the inside. My Curry Katsu was over rice and the curry sauce was fantastic. Exactly what I would have expected if I was in Tokyo. Both meals come with rice, miso soup and shredded cabbage. So delish ! Overall, our service and meals were fantastic. The small place (maybe 10 tables/ 24-28 people max) was busy the entire time we were there. Hence reservations are a must. The nondescript strip mall wouldn't normally suggest the hidden gem, but Katsuten is definitely that. Well worth the trip and a place I'll frequent again !More

Katsu is breaded and fried meat, like an Austrian schnitzel, but light and very crispy. Presented on a rack to avoid sogginess. Comes with flavourful miso soup, ample rice, and a shredded cabbage salad with a fresh-tasting citrusy dressing. Breaded pork, chicken, prawns, etc available,...as well as noodle and stir-fry dishes. Bright and clean; friendly staff who were happy to explain dishes to us; quick service Excellent value ($15 for breaded pork loin cutlet meal)More

Good food as usual. Has been patronizing this restaurant for the past 2 years and standard of the food is still maintained. The lotus root salad is a must try and the cabbage salad that comes with lemon dressing is refreshing to go well with...the katsu.More

This restaurant offers excellent crunchy pork chop. It is as good as the one in the food court of Aberdeen Centre in BC. Reason price and portion. Their lotus root salad was another excellent item. Lotus root was cut into thin slices (this is not...an easy job), deep fried, very crunchy, went so good with onion and their in-house salad dressing. Yaki udon was a bit of a rip-off, $12.90 but small portion, kind of bland. Restaurant was clean, including bathroom. A good place for Japanese pork cutlet.More
