Markos Kitchen is a charming spot that brings Eastern European flavors to life with every dish. We dined at Markos Kitchen last night. It was the best meal we have had in Calgary! The pork schnitzel, cabbage rolls and goulash were amazing. The owner served us, visited with us, and showed an amazing conviction to serving others with real food and building a community of respect with special needs children. The ambiance is modern and demonstrates respect for the past with many pictures and artifacts from Serbia. We will make this restaurant a regular place to dine whenever we travel to Calgary.

The food was fantastic! The owner, Zika, took the time to personalize our experience and tell us the story of how the restaurant came to be as well as to let us know that the food is sourced locally and organically. The food was 'homemade' delicious and the portions were very generous. Everything is gluten free with many choices for dishes from around the world. I highly recommend this restaurant.

The owner was so personable and made our dinner so enjoyable with his stories, service and the quality of the varied menu.
The food was exceptional and not what you would find in too many other restaurants. He added some complimentary liqueur in honor of our family celebration.
We loved our experience and would highly recommend!!

This is authentic Balkan restaurant, located in the Calgary south industrial area. The food is fresh and tasty but service needs some improvement. When entered the restaurant, server hasn’t asked anything or even bother to bring the menu. Later she brought a glass of water and surprisingly she brought a goulash for the main course, although I haven’t asked for it. When I sad I didn’t ordered it, she asked what she is supposed to do with already prepared food. I said, well I will eat it but I’m not a big fan of goulash. Regardless, the taste was really great but I wished I had a chance to order something else, for instance a grilled meat like chevapi or hamburger (pleskavica) or Karadjordjeva. I was at the business trip in Calgary and visited restaurant because of the great reviews on Trip Advisor. Actually the place was far away from my hotel and there a lot of other restaurants in downtown Calgary around 8th Street where I stayed. I came here particularly to try a grilled meat, not to eat goulash. The chef, I believe he is the owner, asked if I want something else and prepared takeout chevapi for me, which smelled really good and I ate it later in my hotel room. First, I thought it was a good gesture because I’ve been served the wrong food but no, I was wrong, I’ve been charged for the two main courses plus desert. Furthermore, the server hasn’t offered any drinks and hasn’t asked if I wanted anything else, although I wished I had a chance to try their turkish coffee. Anyway, I got my usual dark roast from Starbucks later. When I finished goulash, I was waiting at my table but nobody came and went to the front desk to ask for the desert hoping to get some recommendation but received a response that everything they have is in their fridge. The food is delicious but service needs a lot of improvements. I rated this review 4 stars only because the food is delicious and chef is a nice person.

On Aug 10/24 Celebrating our 50th Anniversary, our children treated us & family members to a wonderful celebration at Marko's Kitchen. The food was amazing with family style platters of assorted grilled meats, rice and roast potatoes, Marko's summer salad & shredded fresh cabbage from Zika's garden. Followed by an assortment of delicious pastries. Our out of town guests raved about the food & excellent service. Will be back to enjoy another delicious & hearty meal.

The food here is tremendous! We ordered the Cevapi to share amongst the 4 of us; the beef sausages were cooked and seasoned perfectly along with the pita. The dessert of the week was Marko's cup; a sponge cake layered with fresh pineapples, real cherries and whipped cream on top all in a cup . It was light, not too sweet and reminded me of summer.
The owner is kind hearted; he shares how his dishes are made from fresh ingredients and healthy options to cater to gluten free and diabetic customers.

There are already plenty of reviews commenting on how wonderful the food is, and I can attest that this is all true. However, it is worth noting that the staff is remarkable. We came here last minute to celebrate my son's baptism with a group of about 12 and the service was excellent. It was also beautiful to see how the restaurant provides meaningful and dignified work for the many employees with special needs. This alone elevates the restaurant to a gem the city can be proud of. Will definitely be returning. Thank you for the experience!

The kind of Cevapi that dreams are made of. Staff was excellent with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Every dish that went by looked delicious as it came out with the owner himself serving us and sharing little bits about the incredible pride and detail that he puts into each dish he serves. Will definitely be going back to explore even more of the incredible menu.

I would recommend Marko's Kitchen to anyone interested in experiencing healthy, organic, homemade Serbian food. The service is extremely friendly, the prices are very reasonable, the decor is truly charming, the portions are exceptionally generous, and the food is absolutely delicious! I suggest you try the cevapi (grilled Serbian sausages) but don't forget to save room for one of their delectible desserts. Five stars for Marko's Kitchen!

Unfortunately, the pork schnitzel was very dry. I even suspect it wasn’t freshly made. The batter was dry and burnt on the thin edges. I pointed this out, but the boss was away and I was told they could only take my advice onboard. To be honest, $24 for schnitzel and fries, seems very expensive & basic. The presentation wasn’t great either. I don’t like giving bad reviews, but I came for lunch partly because oo the positive Trip Advisor review.

This is an absolute gem. The owner served us and he was most gracious and fun to chat with. We ordered the platter for 2 (there were 4 of us) plus Markos rolls, broccoli cheese balls and the cabbage salad. We were not disappointed. This was an excellent meal. Everything was soooo good! Highly recommend and we will return.

Amazing healthy food that can accomodate almost any dietary restriction! They had vegan and gluten free optioins, and it was a great spot for our group of 8 people.
We got the BBQ platter for 6, burek and white bean soup and everything was excellent. I will be going back

Our family of family if 8 ate there last evening and were totally impressed with this restaurant. Not only could he provide delicious food for our Celiac and Vegetarian family members, but the barbeque platter for the meat eaters was delicious. The desserts are to die for and accommodate all food preferences. The prices are very affordable, and the hospitality is wonderful. All the food is homemade sourced from local products and the sausage, sour cream and catsup are all homemade. We highly recommend this hidden gem.

Our pork cordon blue was delicious! Roasted pork was to lick your fingers - you can taste the freshness and quality of the food since the owner Žika only buys food from the local farms. We will come back and highly recommend this restaurant. Great value!
