We ate here so many times that we cannot count anymore. First visit was in early winter 1998. It is not exactly Chinese but Macanes, that's best of both worlds: Portuguese and oriental. Everything on the menu is very good. Years ago, we kind of..."push" them to introduce the Eggplant Hot Pot. Initially by request than on "specials" list than as a permanent item. Time after time becomes better so, now, is our first choice. Secondly comes the extraordinary Salt and Pepper Seafood. Wow! And most of the food is, or can be ordered, Gluten Free (friendly, but is very, very, very little gluten in the kitchen) an No MSG. Happy to serve and no extras for this requests. If you are looking for the best Chinese food in Calgary the Emerald Garden is it! They prepared the dumplings a perfect golden brown as per our request. When you order the chicken fried rice ask if Frank prepared it, because you will be in...for a treat. The salt and pepper veggies are out of this world. I personally love the celery! I'm not fond of the green peppers in the salt and pepper veggies so we ask not to put them in, they are so good to us and friendly on a genuine level. To top everything off use their house made chili oil. But be sure to test the chili oil before you use it, when it's fresh it tends to be mild but if it's aged it can get pretty hot, too hot for my wife but I absolutely love it! Portions are generous and prices are very competitive. We have been coming here for years and the quality of the food has never waivered. And try the candied mango and banana for dessert!More
The worst Chinese food I have ever had. Orders last night in a recommendation for friends. The most bland food, all of it. The ginger beef has a chili beside it, tasted like nothing, the dumplings have a odd flavour, not like any dumpling I...have ever had. The veggies, were OK, but nothing to them. Terrible.More

We have eaten at this Chinese restaurant for over 20 years and it is still our favourite. The staff are efficient and friendly and the food is always superb. The individual dishes are usually around $13.00-$15.00 each, but each plate is generous and I have...not found a dish at this restaurant that I haven't liked. Our favourites are the salt & pepper squid, the ginger beef, the dumplings and the schezwan beef or chicken on a hot plate. Furthermore, they also have an additional menu that features the Portuguese influences from Macau. Their lunchtime combination specials (offered Tuesdays to Fridays) are very affordable at about $12.00. The combination includes wonton soup or a spring roll, 2 main dish choices (out of about 8 items) plus steamed or fried rice. Even this is generous enough, so that I usually take some home for another lunch. I love this Chinese restaurant and highly recommend it!More
I've been going to this restaurant for years, and for good reason. Family run, the staff make you feel right at home. Mom is the hostess, a happy, smiling face to greet you when you come through the door. The dad is the head chef,...and the kids are part of the serving staff. And the food! I've been to Chinese restaurants where the food is under/over cooked, greasy, or just plain awful (must be my Caucasian palette), but never have I been dissapointed by the fare at this restaurant. It's always tasty and prepared to a tee. Nothing is pre-cooked; everything is prepared fresh. We took a family with us to try out the restaurant, as we had not been there for over 15 years. We ordered the Baked Portuguese Chicken, and a few other dishes. This dish was super tasty and smooth. The flavor was there and we...had to order 3 bowls of rice to enjoy the sauce. We will definitely return and have this dish again. The Salt and Pepper Squid was okay, not my favorite. We ordered a curry lamb dish and our guests really loved it. They said it was one of the best tasting lambs every, especially the sauce it was made in. The sweet and sour chicken with pineapple was good. We saw other tables order lots of dumplings. They were huge! We will try that dish next time. We sat right in front of the kitchen, so saw a lot of different foods come out. The portion size was good and it smelt really good too. If you like Baked Portuguese Chicken I would totally recommend you try it here! Service was fast, waitresses very nice.More
Got delivery from here the other day. Food was on time but a little cold when it did arrive. Got ginger beef which was pretty average. The Salt and Pepper Seafood was also pretty average. Didn't like the seschuan chicken at all. Also felt like...dishes were a little over priced. Probably wont order from here again but it wasn't terrible.More
