James Joyce is one of the many pubs that my husband likes to keep coming back. We came from an eat all you can lunch and want something light to eat for dessert so we went to this place as it has been awhile since...we last went back. We ordered Guiness beer for my husband and mine is their frozen irish blessing which is always my preferred drink here. We also ordered the apple berry crumble and the chocolate raspberry mousse both desserts are very good and tasty. We would come back for these good desserts and drinks.More

Within walking distance of our hotel location, walking the closed street & came upon this great little Irish Pub. Was lunch time so many locals & people working in the area. Food was excellent, service steady & without any challenges. Enjoyed checking the pub inside...but with such great weather we decided to enjoy the fresh air, sunshine & people watch. Very nicely decorated in side the pub with many authentic Irish collectibles. Pub prices were high but later in the day they had Happy Hour prices so will have to return to enjoy on another day.More

We thoroughly enjoyed our late afternoon lunch, including much appreciated "happy hour" pricing. Allowed us to order more! Food was delicious! Our waitress (she wore glasses) was very efficient and friendly, she went the extra mile to make our visit more enjoyable. Outdoor dining perfect...for people watching. Loved this restaurant!More

Enjoyed dinner here on our second night in Calgary. Almost nice enough to dine outside but decided to sit inside. A bit noisy (an office group near us) but otherwise comfortable. Wanted to try their sangria (we just missed happy hour though). Husband had a...Guinness. Settled on the shepherd’s pie…good but would have liked more peas and carrots. Husband had the jalapeno bacon burger…he really liked it. Our waitress was either new or shy…didn’t get much hospitality from her.More

Visited here the evening we arrived in Calgary. The inside was really nice. We had 2 chicken currys , 2 beers and 2 large white wines and the bill was 102$. It was very busy...it was a Saturday night so obviously very popular. Would recommend...The server was very efficient and pleasant. We were able to pay by cash too.More

As a Scot who had never visited Canada never mind Calgary, found myself in Calgary in September having to spend 14 days out of the UK (Scotland) before being allowed to finally visit my Family including two grandchildren in Minnesota. (US Covid Regulations) James Joyce...became my local for the next 16 days. From the moment I stepped into this family pub I was welcomed like a regular. Wonderful place with super friendly bar staff, great grub and Guinness and nice local clientele. Obviously a lot quieter than it would normally be given Covid restrictions, but in some ways that added to the homely atmosphere. Love this pub and if I am ever lucky enough to return to Calgary it will be my first port of call. Slainte Mhath! Eddie MorrisonMore

I sat at the bar and chatted with almost every staff member at least briefly. Everyone was super friendly.

We had a hankering for fish and chips and my wife had read good things about this spot called Mrs. Chippy ( which is really just the James Joyce Pub doing Fish and Chips takeout) so we decided to give it a try. The food...was about 15 minutes behind the agreed upon pickup time on this very quiet Sunday, but that was not a big deal as there was nothing else to do. The lady there handed me two bags...one was for the warms items ( Fish and Chips) the other was for the cold items ( condiments plus cole slaw.....nice touch. The fish ( Haddock) was very good, even though the tartar sauce which we were ASSURED would be included, was nowhere to be found. That put a slight damper on our enjoyment for sure. The chips on the other hand we found to be quite tasteless and lacking in seasoning.More

We went there at happy hour. Not much selection for their happy hour menu. Their service was slow and there wasn't many people in there at the time we visited the place. Though their mini shepherd's pie were good. The lychee tini was ok. Their...steak & Guinness pie is a bit salty. When we finish eating our shepherd's pie we didn't know that we want to order more and the waiter told us to use the same plate and fork but I asked them to give us a new one instead.More

Thanks for taking the time out to write your comments. Glad you enjoyed the shepherds pies and sorry you thought the beef and Guinness pie was too salty. Its always best to let your server know and then we can follow up and that way...More
