So confused by the rating! Service fast - like faster than McDonald’s Location - adjacent to a hotel - is this a hotel restaurant? Ambiance -plus and minus - no music, open kitchen, fresco ceilings Wood fired ‘pepperoni’ pizza - lacked flavour and soggy Joe’s...carbonara- tasty and loaded with carbonara Staff - awesome. Price - $35pp (one adult one kid)More

The service by Janet was excellent. She took a keen interest in us and went out of her way to get me a pat of butter for my crust. The pizza-making guy seemed to really enjoy what he was doing. I think the atmosphere could...have been a bit more subdued but it was Mother's Day so it might have been the noise that bounced off the walls. We think some greenery might add ambiance. The food was very good, loved the spicy marinara and the chef served it to me in the side as I requested. The chicken parm was excellent and the portions were generous . Drinks were well made and the coffee was delicious. All in all a great Italian meal for a reasonable price.More

We were in Edmonton for the weekend and chose this restaurant for dinner based on other reviews as we knew nothing of this restaurant. We both enjoyed our meals and the service was friendly and efficient. If there was one thing we noted, it was...it’s a little noisy but otherwise everything was very enjoyable. We recommend you try Vaticano Cucina.More

Superb from start to finish. We began with tomato basil soup. It was served hot and delicious. We chose Costolette Di Manzo (slow-braised beef short ribs) that literally melted in the mouth, with polenta that served as a perfect base. We also chose Veal scallopini...that was very tasty. The accompanying roasted vegetables were varied, colourful and cooked perfectly. Sticky toffee pudding was beautifully served at the table with the hot sauce poured over the pudding and ice cream at the final minute! Yum! Our waiter was knowledgeable, efficient, lively, welcoming and full of fun. We had a great evening. Thank you, Vaticano!More

Amazing food, great atmosphere. The place was full the whole time we were there. We went on a Saturday and it was good that we made reservations otherwise I don’t think we would’ve been able to have dinner there. The prices are compatible with the...quality of the food and the portions were very reasonable. I will definitely go back.More

Service was excellent (thanks Jeremy) and food was excellent. Loved the Arancini, Caesar salad, short ribs and lasagna. Wasn’t too crazy about ricotta dip as the flatbread had burnt garlic seasoning on top that was bitter. Wish I made room for dessert as it looked...amazing! Will definitely be back!More

Love this place, some of the best Italian in the city, just needs a more trendy cocktail menu! I proposed to my husband here, the staff will go above and beyond. Love it!

1 - my server put no garnish on my Caesar other than a lime, and I was sat in the busiest section next to a large party when they had other servers available. Usually I get at least a celery in a classic Caesar AT...LEAST, as a regular Caesar drinker. They clearly don’t know how to organize seating to set their servers up for success.More

Found this restaurant online looking for the a good bolognese. The service was excellent and the food was amazing. We had the bruschetta to start with a caesar salad. I had spaghetti bolognese and my spouse had the lasagna special - honestly both dishes were...beyond what we expected. To top off our meal we had the tiramisu for dessert and it was also excellent. I would highly recommend this little gem.More

We celebrated a family birthday and decided to give this place a try. And im so glad we did. The food was absolutely delightful. From the forst bite to the wine selections, the entire meal was great. Cole our waiter was friendly, patient and helpful....I ordered the Porchetta and it was bang on. I rarely post a review. My usual routine is to not go back if i dislike a place. So it really earned its rating. I will recommend this restaurant to people anytime. One more detail. The joy of not having to go downtown makes this even better. Plus its decorated in a cool easy vibe. Give this a try.More

It's an OK room. The service was friendly. Edmonton no longer has any really amazing Italian restaurants. Some though are pretty good, Vaticano Cucina isn't one of them. This was my second and last time I will ever go to this place. The food was...again pretty nasty indeed. This is an Italian restaurant whose chef has no idea how to make a tomato based sauce. I can sort of see his thought process: is it canned tomatoes grown in Albania, white glue, garlic, tomato paste, dog food and 10/40 Esso oil? Maybe it's tomato paste, orange juice, wall paper paste, furniture polish, hot peppers, and onion, at a ratio of 25% dried garlic, 50% ground beef, and 25% other stuff? Perhaps the chef was trained at the Chef Boyardee culinary institute located in Siberia or maybe India. I ordered the Baked Tortelli with Bolognaise Sauce. My test for a good Italian dining experience is its Bolognaise. In no time flat there it was in front of me. The cheese stuffed tortellini were obviously made in a factory somewhere in a place where no Italian had ever lived. It was semi-cooked, when I cut into a blob of it, the pasta was white in the center, hint to chef, al dente is not the same as raw. This goo was served in an ocean of what was supposed to be a Bolognaise sauce, see actual description above. Every goof with a chef hat has an interpretation of what Bolognaise is supposed to be, this chef may have had good one at some point but then for some reason made the exact opposite. I could go on about what a good meat sauce is, I could probably teach the chef how to make one. I won't do so here. It was really nasty. I sent the dish back. I'm buying, if the food is wildly subpar, I send it back. Bravely I thought, well maybe the sauce isn't that horrible (I didn't have a lot of it first try), I will order the Spaghetti Vaticano with sparse meat sauce. The Spaghetti arrived in a big bowl floating with the sauce. The Spaghetti was only slightly undercooked, the sauce was still horrible. It was not properly seasoned and in their arrogance Vaticano Cucina did not put salt on their table, I had to beg for some. A bit of salt did make the sauce nearly eatable, and I ate most of the dish because I was really hungry. You know, like prison camp hungry. I have been fortunate enough to eat in Michelin 3 Star Italian restaurants, both in Italy and elsewhere. I have eaten in many other brilliant Italian places all over the place. I have eaten in a lot of other great restaurants, from 1 star and up to 3, and those places where Michelin never gets to but have great restaurants. On only one other occasion, did the table not have salt on it. It was K-Paul's in New Orleans. When I asked for salt, I was told that Chef thought the food was perfectly seasoned. So I asked if I was buying or of Paul Prudhomme was. Chef came out and we had a chat. He tasted my gumbo and agreed that a little more salt wouldn't hurt. Salt I got and Chef bought dinner for me and my three guests. Vaticano Cucina isn't K-Paul's by about a zillion miles. Avoid this place, go to Sabor instead, their far better and less arrogant head Chef is an artist and is far more creative and presents better food than this restaurant can imagine.More

We were guests at Travelodge and Cucina is very conveniently located adjacent to the hotel's parking lot. Our host/server Cole was amazing and the food really takes your taste buds on a journey around Italy. We left very satisfied and felt the restaurant was reasonably...priced for it's beautiful decor and what it offers. Highly recommend this place!More
