Such a great find! Two of us went pre concert at the Jubilee Auditorium tonight. Quaint little restaurant in McKernan. The waiter made a couple of suggestions. An appy called Chilli fish was so flavourful and a bit on the spicy side. Pakora with Tamarind...or mint sauce were excellent. Butter chicken … yummm. Will definitely be back with bigger group so we can try more on there extensive menu.More

This restaurant is a neighbourhood gem, but also deserves to be a destination for others. We order takeout regularly and the food is always hot and delicious. I do find the restaurant a little too brightly lit for my taste, but the food consistently excellent...- every dish we've tried. I love that they post recipes on the website too. Very easy to order from the website, pricing is reasonable and orders are always ready for pick up at the designated time. Highly recommended.More

We live near the restaurant and have ordered take out several times. The food has been consistently superb and the prices reasonable. Wonderful flavours and a great selection. We have particularly enjoyed the vegetarian options, especially the chana masala and dal. The coconut rice and...biryani are amazing. I highly recommend giving Coriander a try!More

I would like to give this place a higher score because the food, although rather small servings was excellent. The restaurant itself is more like a community hall and lacks any warmth. The wait staff was really uniformed as to what they had or did...not have. All of the so called specials were unavailable. That doesn’t bode well for future success of this restaurant in my books.More

I have great difficulty walking so my only experience with this restaurant is its take-out service. My husband discovered it when a group of friends went there for dinner last year and he found the whole experience very pleasant. As a result we have ordered...take-out from their on-line menu several times since. The whole family enjoys the selection of excellent tandoori dishes, one of us is vegetarian and she always finds something on the menu to enjoy. Personally, I think the chicken saag - chicken pieces in a spiced spinach creamy sauce - is my favourite. The mix of flavours in that sauce is to die for! Especially when mopped up with one of their hot, fresh buttered nan. I’m drooling...More

We had a family dinner here as it was highly recommended. The butter chicken was good as was the paneer. The lamb biryani was tough though. Mixed feelings about our experience.

Two friends and I tried this restaurant for the first time. It's been open only about six months and is in an upmarket neighbourhood south of the river, not far from the major university. Apparently the building used to be an Italian restaurant---hence, the now...out-of-place-looking Classical columns inside! Although it was lunch, Coriander remained fairly empty while we were there. Other than a sprinkling of patrons in this quite large space, there was a trio of older Indian men who seemed to be regulars. The interior decor is quite stark and spartan (very un-Indian, which usually has lush, warm decoration featuring exotic themes). Not much except for a few unexciting photo-murals on the walls, and some strange-looking flashing lights changing different colours every few seconds. Our waiter was pleasant and obliging but nervous and over-attentive, which led me to think that he was new. As for the food: I love southern Indian vegetarian food, especially the long, torpedo-shaped masala dosas. I ordered one of those, and it came with the traditional accompaniments: sambar (a south Indian lentil soup) and two chutneys (one cool and one spicy). The dosa was just okay (not enough filling)---I've had better ones elsewhere. I also wanted an appetizer, so chose the Dahi Batata Puri---puffy shells filled with riced potatoes topped with a sweetish yoghurt. That was a mistake! They tasted somewhat like Rice Krispies, and my friends also didn't like them. I asked my friends about their food choices. One ordered the Fish Molee cooked in coconut milk. (Not sure what type of fish it was.) She thought it was not too bad, but not exciting. We all agreed that the best part of it was the sauce---a rich coconut and lemony blend. My other friend ordered the Kerala fish curry. She said it was quite good and it had a lot of coriander leaves sprinkled over it. Fortunately, she likes coriander. (Many people don't!) But the outstanding item that we ordered was the garlic naan bread. I've never tasted naan better than this one---buttery, herby and oozing that garlic flavour! I would suggest going to Coriander Cuisine, look at the extensive menu, order one or two dishes, but really fill up on their garlic naan. It's a meal in itself! I hesitated in my rating between "Average" and "Very Good." An in-between rating of "Good" would have been more fitting but unfortunately it's not one of the categories to choose from.More

Full disclosure! I am not Indian in origin, and I am usually not a fan of this cuisine. So I wasn’t excited about the opportunity to dine with eight other friends at this restaurant but as you know sometimes you just have to acquiesce. To...my pleasant surprise the food was excellent. We approached the opportunity by each couple and the single diner ordering a dish to share. This was to be a “Family Style” meal. Then we ordered seven naans (buttered and garlic), two bowls of rice and three bowels of vegetables. In total, we shared two menu items of lamb something, two orders of chicken something, and an order of shrimp. Most plates were $14.00. The shrimp was $16.00. The beer and wine were reasonably priced. Portions were modest except for the rice, it was on the skimpy side. Without dessert, and we didn’t have any, our cost per person was just under $21.00 and everybody left satisfied and happy. Service was a little slow but accurate. The food tasted great, was exotic and interesting. I would go back. In closing, this may or may not be great and truly authentic Indian food but I really liked it. I also liked the fact that the restaurant was clean, there was ample parking and it is a safe neighbourhood. If you have mobility issues ask to use the back door.More

I have been here twice and we were completely satisfied and stuffed both times! I dreamt about the the chicken korma between visits so had that on both trips. We sopped up all the sauce with the beautiful fresh naan. Shrimp tandoori was amazing too.......we also tried a mutton dish that was good. Not my favourite meat but the sauce was super. The outside looks old but its a new restaurant and the inside is very nice. Do not be fooled by the outside! Service is attentive but not in your face. Highly recommend!More

This new Indian restaurant offers a variety of wonderful Indian dishes. We especially enjoyed the Chicken Suriyani and the Malai kofta. Both dishes were flavorful, rich and complex. Don't forget to order the amazing garlic Naan! The staff was very helpful and friendly. I can...highly recommend this restaurant. It is close to the University of Alberta, has space for large groups, off-street parking and a liquor license. The food is reasonable priced. We will definitely go again.More
