Always a pleasure dining here. We dine in and order takeout regularly and the service is consistently great every time. The staff are friendly, the food is delicious and fresh, the menu is extensive with lots of vegetarian options, and the portions are generous, even...for takeout.More

Excellent dining experience! This evening we ordered take out. We also dine inside with couples or as a family. The food, service, and the atmosphere, is consistently great. We enjoy all the extras, the special touches. It's still fascinating to watch the food being freshly...prepared, as we are served our beverages. We like the Japanese waitresses; the Japanese art; and the relaxed atmosphere. There is something for everyone on Furusatos's menu, vegans and omnivores alike. Try the specials of the day. The menu has many more options. Half orders are often sufficient. For bigger appetites ask for the full order. Entering the restaurant, one has the sense of walking into a dining place in Japan. From the wooden handle on the outside door, through the angled entrance way into the restaurant, as the Japanese music greets the ear. Furusato is smaller than the large chain restaurants, which adds much to it's charm. This place is a treasure, a lost art. From it's floor plan that adds depth, and the chairs that are made for comfort and ease. We never feel rushed, unlike other Japanese restaurants and restaurants, period. It is fortunate we live within easy reach of Furusato Restaurant here in Edmonton. We have been coming here for several years and this recommendation for Furusato is long overdue. We invite you to come along, or come back to partake of this dining experience. You will enjoy this gem still situated in it's original place on Whyte (82) Avenue. Happy dining!More

No flavour. Worst sushi I’ve had in Edmonton yet. Sashimi wasn’t quite frozen but it was so cold it was obvious it hadn’t been out long. Zero flavour. Rolls had no flavour which was extra impressive considering there was sauce on one of them. Spent...$80 and will probably be looking for food later.More

I lived in Japan for a year. Furusato is Edmonton's best meeting of reasonable prices, good portions, and quality food. Yes, you can get a better Japanese experience at Yokozuna. Or you can get amazing creations at Mikado while subsidizing weekly deliveries from Tokyo fish...markets. Or you can get even more food at Tokyo sushi express. (Hint: you should not smell fish when you walk into a sushi restaurant!) But Furusato has good service and good food, and it's not crappy grade B sushi. It's true, they are small and can be overwhelmed sometimes, but they more than make up for it when they are slow or you are picking up... free appetizers, tea while you wait, etc.More

I was looking for good place to have something fast and just stopped by without any scouting beforehand. The service was very friendly and fast. Food was fresh and I think reasonably priced too. Nothing really to complain.

I believe that this is one of the best sushi spots in Edmonton, every time I come everything is excellent. I brought my daughter for dinner tonight, and it was, yet again excellent. The beef sashimi is wonderful, the sashimi is generous and always perfectly...fresh, the rolls are excellent, my daughter ordered an I love you roll, it was great, as was the avocado roll. And the gyoza's are so good. I have been coming here for 20+years, it is one of the best sushi spots in EdmontonMore

Working in Edmonton and wanted to eat Japanese food. Found this place while driving so decided to try based partly on the name. Furusato means 'home town or country' so I thought the owners may be Japanese. They weren't. No offense to owners but was...thinking they would have some home style dishes. Decor was a little tired and a mix of Japanese and other Asian. Service by our waitress was good. The food was what I would consider the average fare offered by most Japanese restaurants these days.More

About 15 years ago this was a great sushi restaurant. I went back for nostalgic reasons and was taught a lesson. Sushi is actually served here. But the sushi slices were paper thin. The chicken karaage was literally chicken wings! I have never been served...chicken wings in place of chicken karaage and I have ordered it many times (including Japan). The edamame was good.More

This place used to be packed to the rafters. It was always full on weekends with a big line up to get in and the food quality was superb. After the restaurant changed ownership, one of the first things they did is allow reservations. This...created a situation where there were line ups but empty tables. Very frustrating. Regardless, the food quality declined and the prices were high. We stopped going there about 2 years ago but thought we'd try it again recently. Walked in to a 2/3 empty restaurant on a weekend night. Not a good sign. I was happy to see prices had not gone up so they were quite reasonable. We got our food and the tuna in the rolls was obviously a bit old. The rest of the sushi was passable but not great. Overall it's not bad. Average. So if you're in the neighbourhood, I'd try it but I'm not driving across town again for it.More

The quality and generous size of our salmon and toro sashimi is unmatched, best in the city !! Relaxing atmosphere allows us just to sit and enjoy the food, unlike certain restaurants that rush you the bill to get you to leave . a surprise...bonus we get free fried banana dessert :)More

Super fresh fish, and very tasty rolls. Furusato is a very unassuming exterior but inside is loaded with unique rolls like butterfly. Great flavours matched with great presentation. Just a smidge expensive.

First of all, great service and the food came quickly. The fish was very fresh and the tempura was good. Overall though, I must say it was just average for me. I was surprised that they only had one type of hot Sake which is...my favorite thing to drink with sushi but the house Sake was not very good. They had the usual types of Maki that you find in any Sushi restaurant in Edmonton so nothing stood out. My wife and I also shared a Bento box (Chicken Teriyaki), the chicken was deep fried and over done. There is nothing about my experience that really draws me back to this restaurant.More

The food was good but the service could have been better. The server "Haruna" was excellent, there was seven of us eating and our food came at different times, but I would still recommend eating here.
